Hadith of al-Samma' bint Busrah (may Allah be pleased with her)

حَدِيثُ الصَّمَّاءِ بِنْتِ بُسْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 27075

Narrated by Sam'aa bint Basr (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not fast on Saturday except for the obligatory fasts, and if anyone of you does not find anything to eat except a grape stalk or a tree bark, then he should chew it."


Grade: Da'if

حضرت صماء بنت بسر رضی اللہ عنہا سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے ارشاد فرمایا: ”ہفتہ کے دن فرض روزوں کے علاوہ کوئی روزہ نہ رکھا کرو اور اگر تم میں سے کسی کو کھانے کے لئے کچھ بھی نہ ملے سوائے انگور کی ٹہنی کے یا درخت کی چھال کے تو اس ہی کو چبا لے۔“

Hazrat Sama bint Basar RA se marvi hai keh Nabi SAW ne irshad farmaya: “Hafte ke din farz rozon ke ilawa koi roza na rakha karo aur agar tum mein se kisi ko khane ke liye kuchh bhi na mile siwaye angoor ki tehni ke ya darakht ki chhal ke to us hi ko chaba le.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِم ، قَال: َحَدَّثَنَا ثَوْرٌ ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُسْر ، عَنْ أُخْتِه ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَال: " لَا تَصُومُوا يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ إِلَّا مَا افْتُرِضَ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَّا عُودَ عِنَب، أَوْ لِحَى شَجَرَةٍ , فَلْيَمْضُغْهَا" .

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 27076

A female companion (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about the ruling on fasting on Saturday. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is neither any special virtue nor any sin in it."


Grade: Da'if

ایک خاتون صحابیہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے نبی ﷺ سے ہفتہ کے دن روزہ رکھنے کا حکم پوچھا، تو نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”اس کا کوئی خاص ثواب ہے اور نہ ہی کوئی وبال۔“

aik khatoon sahabiya razi Allah anha ne nabi sali Allah alaihi wasallam se hafta ke din roza rakhne ka hukum poocha, to nabi sali Allah alaihi wasallam ne farmaya: ”is ka koi khas sawab hai aur na hi koi waabal.“

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، قَال: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَة ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ وَرْدَانَ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَعْرَجِ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي جَدَّتِي : أَنَّهَا دَخَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَتَغَدَّى، وَذَلِكَ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ، فَقَال:" تَعَالَيْ فَكُلِي"، فَقَالَت: إِنِّي صَائِمَةٌ , فَقَالَ لَهَا:" صُمْتِ أَمْسِ؟" , فَقَالَتْ: لَا، قَالَ: " فَكُلِي، فَإِنَّ صِيَامَ يَوْمِ السَّبْت؟ لَا لَكِ، وَلَا عَلَيْك" .

It was narrated from Sama' bint Basr (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Do not fast on Saturday, except for the obligatory fasts, and if any of you cannot find anything to eat except a vine stalk or a tree bark, then let him chew that."

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، قَال: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ الزُّبَيْدِيّ ، عَنْ لُقْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِر ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُسْرٍ ، عَنْ أُخْتِهِ الصَّمَّاءِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم، قَال: " لَا يَصُومَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ إِلَّا فِي فَرِيضَة، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ إِلَّا لِحَى شَجَرَة، فَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَيْهَا" .
