Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 1534
It is narrated by Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) and other companions (may Allah be pleased with them all) that during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), there were two brothers, one of whom was more righteous than the other. The more righteous one passed away first and the other brother lived for forty more days and then he also passed away. When they were mentioned in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the people mentioned that the first one was more righteous. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Did not this second brother pray?" The people said, "Why not, but it makes no difference." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Do you know where his prayers have taken him?" Then he said, "The example of prayer is like a flowing canal whose water is sweet and fresh, and it is flowing at the door of your house, and he dives into it five times a day, what do you think, will there be any dirt left on his body?"

سیدنا سعد رضی اللہ عنہ اور دیگر صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہم سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ کے دور باسعادت میں دو بھائی تھے، ان میں سے ایک دوسرے سے افضل تھا، اس افضل شخص کا پہلے انتقال ہو گیا اور دوسرا بھائی اس کے بعد چالیس دن تک مزید زندہ رہا، پھر وہ بھی فوت ہو گیا، نبی ﷺ کے سامنے جب ان کا تذکرہ ہوا تو لوگوں نے پہلے کے افضل ہونے کا ذکر کیا، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”کیا یہ دوسرا بھائی نماز نہیں پڑھتا تھا؟“ لوگوں نے کہا: کیوں نہیں، لیکن اس سے کوئی فرق نہیں پڑتا، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”تمہیں کیا خبر کہ اس کی نمازوں نے اسے کہاں تک پہنچا دیا؟“ پھر فرمایا کہ ”نماز کی مثال اس جاری نہر کی سی ہے جس کا پانی میٹھا اور شیریں ہو، اور وہ تمہارے گھر کے دروازے پر بہہ رہی ہو، اور وہ اس میں روزانہ پانچ مرتبہ غوطہ لگاتا ہو، تمہارا کیا خیال ہے، کیا اس کے جسم پر کچھ بھی میل کچیل باقی رہے گا؟“
Sayyidna Saad Razi Allah Anhu aur deegar Sahaba Kiram Razi Allah Anhum se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke daur ba saadat mein do bhai thay, un mein se aik dosray se afzal tha, is afzal shakhs ka pehle inteqal ho gaya aur dosra bhai is ke baad chalis din tak mazeed zinda raha, phir wo bhi foot ho gaya, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke samne jab un ka tazkara hua to logon ne pehle ke afzal hone ka zikar kya, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Kya ye dosra bhai namaz nahi parhta tha?” Logon ne kaha: kyun nahi, lekin is se koi farq nahi parta, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Tumhen kya khabar ki is ki namaazon ne isay kahan tak pohancha diya?” Phir farmaya ki “Namaz ki misaal is jari nahar ki si hai jis ka pani meetha aur shireen ho, aur wo tumhare ghar ke darwaze par beh rahi ho, aur wo is mein rozana panch martaba ghota lagata ho, tumhara kya khayal hai, kya is ke jism par kuchh bhi mail kachil baqi rahe ga?”.
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ , قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ: وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ هَارُونَ , حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ , حَدَّثَنِي مَخْرَمَةُ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سَعْدًا ، وَنَاسًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُونَ: كَانَ رَجُلَانِ أَخَوَانِ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , وَكَانَ أَحَدُهُمَا أَفْضَلَ مِنَ الْآخَرِ، فَتُوُفِّيَ الَّذِي هُوَ أَفْضَلُهُمَا، ثُمَّ عُمِّرَ الْآخَرُ بَعْدَهُ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً، ثُمَّ تُوُفِّيَ، فَذُكِرَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَضْلُ الْأَوَّلِ عَلَى الْآخَرِ، , فَقَالَ:" أَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلِّي؟" , فَقَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، فَكَانَ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ , فَقَالَ:" مَا يُدْرِيكُمْ مَاذَا بَلَغَتْ بِهِ صَلَاتُهُ؟" , ثُمَّ قَالَ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ:" إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الصَّلَوَاتِ كَمَثَلِ نَهَرٍ جَارٍ بِبَابِ رَجُلٍ، غَمْرٍ عَذْبٍ، يَقْتَحِمُ فِيهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ، فَمَا تُرَوْنَ يُبْقِي ذَلِكَ مِنْ دَرَنِهِ".
