Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 16585
It is narrated by a companion, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, ordered regarding a man that he be stoned to death between Mecca and Medina. When he was pelted with stones, he started running away. When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came to know of this, he said, "Why did you not leave him alone?"

ایک صحابی رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے ایک آدمی کے متعلق حکم دیا کہ اسے مکہ اور مدینہ کے درمیان رجم کر دیا جائے، جب اسے پتھر لگے تو وہ بھاگنے لگا، نبی ﷺ کو یہ بات معلوم ہوئی تو آپ نے فرمایا کہ تم نے اسے چھوڑ کیوں نہ دیا؟
aik sahabi razi allaho anho se marvi hai keh nabi sallallaho alaihi wasallam ne aik aadmi ke mutalliq hukum diya keh usay makkah aur madina ke darmiyaan rajm kar diya jaye, jab usay pathar lage to woh bhagne laga, nabi sallallaho alaihi wasallam ko yeh baat maloom hui to aap ne farmaya keh tum ne usay chhor kyon nah diya?
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّازَّقِ ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْقُرَشِيِّ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ شَهِدَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَأَمَرَ بِرَجْمِ رَجُلٍ بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ، وَالْمَدِينَةِ، فَلَمَّا أَصَابَتْهُ الْحِجَارَةُ، فَرَّ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:" فَهَلَّا تَرَكْتُمُوهُ".
