Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 19660
Narrated by Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The example of a good companion is like that of a perfumer: even if he does not bring his perfume bottle near you, its fragrance will still reach you. And the example of a bad companion is like that of a furnace: even if it does not burn you, its heat and flames will still reach you.

حضرت ابوموسیٰ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا اچھے ہم نشین کی مثال عطار کی سی ہے کہ اگر وہ اپنے عطر کی شیشی تمہارے قریب بھی نہ لائے تو اس کی مہک تم تک پہنچے گی اور برے ہم نشین کی مثال بھٹی کی سی ہے کہ اگر وہ تمہیں نہ بھی جلائے تب بھی اس کی گرمی اور شعلے تو تم تک پہنچیں گے۔
Hazrat Abu Moosa Radi Allaho Anho se marvi hai keh Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam ne farmaya achhe hum nashiin ki misaal attar ki si hai keh agar wo apne attar ki shishi tumhare qareeb bhi na laye to us ki mahak tum tak pohnche gi aur bure hum nashiin ki misaal bhatti ki si hai keh agar wo tumhen na bhi jalaye tab bhi us ki garmi aur shole to tum tak pohnchen ge.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ ، عَن أَبِي كَبْشَةَ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا مُوسَى ، يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَثَلُ الْجَلِيسِ الصَّالِحِ، كَمَثَلِ الْعَطَّارِ، إِنْ لَا يُحْذِكَ يَعْبَقُ بِكَ مِنْ رِيحِهِ، وَمَثَلُ الْجَلِيسِ السَّوْءِ كَمَثَلِ صَاحِبِ الْكِيرِ" .
