Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 224
Abu Ubaid said: Once I went to see Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, on the day of Eid. He prayed before the sermon, without the call to prayer (adhan) or the announcement (iqamah). Then, while delivering the sermon, he said: "O people! The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade fasting on these two days: the day of Eid al-Fitr because it is the day when your fasts end, and the day of Eid al-Adha so that you can eat the meat of your sacrificial animals."

ابوعبید کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ میں عید کے موقع پر سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا، انہوں نے خطبہ سے پہلے بغیر اذان اور اقامت کے نماز پڑھائی، پھر خطبہ دیتے ہوئے فرمایا: لوگو! نبی ﷺ نے ان دو دنوں کے روزے سے منع فرمایا ہے، عیدالفطر کے دن تو اس لئے کہ اس دن تمہارے روزے ختم ہوتے ہیں اور عیدالاضحیٰ کے دن اس لئے کہ تم اپنی قربانی کے جانور کا گوشت کھا سکو۔
Abu Ubaid kehte hain ke ek martaba main Eid ke mauqe par Sayyiduna Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ki khidmat mein hazir hua, unhon ne khutba se pehle baghair azan aur iqamat ke namaz parhayi, phir khutba dete huye farmaya: Logon! Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne in do dinon ke roze se mana farmaya hai, Eid-ul-Fitr ke din to isliye ke us din tumhare roze khatam hote hain aur Eid-ul-Adha ke din isliye ke tum apni qurbani ke janwar ka gosht kha sako.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أبي عُبَيْدٍ مَوْلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ: أَنَّهُ شَهِدَ الْعِيدَ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ، فَصَلَّى قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْطُبَ بِلَا أَذَانٍ وَلَا إِقَامَةٍ، ثُمَّ خَطَبَ، فَقَالَ:" يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ صِيَامِ هَذَيْنِ الْيَوْمَيْنِ، أَمَّا أَحَدُهُمَا: فَيَوْمُ فِطْرِكُمْ مِنْ صِيَامِكُمْ وَعِيدُكُمْ، وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ: فَيَوْمٌ تَأْكُلُونَ فِيهِ مِنْ نُسُكِكُمْ".
