The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2333
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Quraysh demanded from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "Ask your Lord to turn the Safa mountain into gold for us, and remove the other mountains so we can cultivate the land, then we will believe in you." (The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Will you truly believe?" They said, "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed. Jibril (peace be upon him) appeared and said, "Your Lord greets you with peace and says," "If you wish, then wait, and if you wish, the Safa mountain will be made of gold for them. But after that, if any of them disbelieve, then I will destroy them just like previous nations.") The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "I will wait." Then Allah, the Exalted, revealed this verse: "And nothing has prevented Us from sending signs except that the former peoples denied them. And We gave Thamud the she-camel as a clear sign." (Al-Isra' 17:59)

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ قریش نے نبی ﷺ سے مطالبہ کیا کہ اپنے رب سے دعا کیجئے کہ وہ صفا پہاڑی کو ہمارے لئے سونے کا بنا دے، اور دوسرے پہاڑوں کو ہٹا دے تاکہ ہم کھیتی باڑی کر سکیں، ہم آپ پر ایمان لے آئیں گے، (نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”کیا واقعی تم ایمان لے آؤ گے؟“ انہوں نے کہا: جی ہاں! نبی ﷺ نے دعا فرما دی، حضرت جبرئیل علیہ السلام حاضر ہوئے اور کہنے لگے کہ آپ کا رب آپ کو سلام کہتا ہے اور فرماتا ہے کہ) ”اگر آپ چاہتے ہیں تو انتظار کر لیں، اور اگر چاہیں تو ان کے لئے صفا پہاڑی کو سونے کا بنا دیا جائے گا، لیکن اس کے بعد اگر ان میں سے کسی نے کفر کیا تو پھر میں انہیں پہلوں کی طرح ہلاک کر دوں گا“، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ ”میں انتظار کر لوں گا“، پھر اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت نازل فرمائی: «﴿وَمَا مَنَعَنَا أَنْ نُرْسِلَ بِالْآيَاتِ إِلَّا أَنْ كَذَّبَ بِهَا الْأَوَّلُونَ وَآتَيْنَا ثَمُودَ النَّاقَةَ مُبْصِرَةً﴾ [الإسراء: 59] » ”ہمیں معجزات بھیجنے میں کوئی رکاوٹ نہیں ہے، لیکن پہلے لوگ بھی انہیں جھٹلاتے ہی رہے ہیں، چنانچہ ہم نے قوم ثمود کو راہ دکھانے کے لئے اونٹنی دی تھی۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Quresh ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se mutalba kiya ki apne Rab se dua kijiye ki woh Safa pahadi ko hamare liye sone ka bana de, aur dusre paharon ko hata de taki hum kheti bari kar sakein, hum aap per iman le aayenge, (Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Kya waqai tum iman le aaoge?” Unhon ne kaha: Ji haan! Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne dua farma di, Hazrat Jibraeel Alaihissalam hazir huye aur kehne lage ki aap ka Rab aap ko salaam kehta hai aur farmata hai ki) “Agar aap chahte hain to intezaar kar len, aur agar chahen to un ke liye Safa pahadi ko sone ka bana diya jayega, lekin uske baad agar in mein se kisi ne kufr kiya to phir main unhen pahalon ki tarah halak kar dun ga”, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya ki “main intezaar kar lunga”, phir Allah Ta’ala ne yeh ayat nazil farmaai: «﴿Wa ma manaAAana an nursila bil-ayati illa an kazzaba biha al-awwaluna wa atayna thamuda an-naqata mubsirata﴾ [al-Isra: 59] » “Hamen mu’jizat भेजने mein koi rukawat nahin hai, lekin pehle log bhi unhen jhutlate hi rahe hain, chunancha humne qaum Thamud ko raah dikhane ke liye untni di thi.”.
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ بْن أَحْمَد وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْهُ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِير ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ إِيَاسٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: سَأَلَ أَهْلُ مَكَّةَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ لَهُمْ الصَّفَا ذَهَبًا، وَأَنْ يُنَحِّيَ الْجِبَالَ عَنْهُمْ، فَيَزَْرعُوا، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: إِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَسْتَأْنِيَ بِهِمْ، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تُؤْتِيَهُمْ الَّذِي سَأَلُوا، فَإِنْ كَفَرُوا أُهْلِكُوا كَمَا أَهْلَكْتُ مَنْ قَبْلَهُمْ , قَالَ:" لَا، بَلْ أَسْتَأْنِي بِهِمْ" , فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: وَمَا مَنَعَنَا أَنْ نُرْسِلَ بِالآيَاتِ إِلا أَنْ كَذَّبَ بِهَا الأَوَّلُونَ وَآتَيْنَا ثَمُودَ النَّاقَةَ مُبْصِرَةً سورة الإسراء آية 59.
