The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2919
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was in the courtyard of his house in Makkah al-Mukarramah when Uthman bin Maz'un passed by. He began to pass by quickly. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him, "Will you not sit down?" He said, "Why not?" So he came and sat down in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The two were talking to each other when suddenly the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked up. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked towards the sky for a moment, then slowly began to lower his gaze until he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fixed his eyes on the ground to his right and turned away from his guest, Uthman, towards it and bowed his head. It felt as if he was trying to understand someone's words. Uthman kept watching all this. After a while, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished this work and understood what was being said to him, then he looked up at the sky, as it was the first time. The Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gaze kept following something until that thing disappeared into the heavens. After that, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned to Uthman as before, he started saying, "Why did I come and sit with you? I have not seen you do this before today." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "What did you see me do?" Uthman said, "I saw that your eyes went up to the sky, then you fixed your eyes on your right hand, you turned away from me and turned to that side, and you bowed your head. It seemed as if something was being said to you, you were trying to understand it." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Did you really feel that way?" Uthman said, "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Just now the Messenger of Allah came to me while you were sitting with me." Uthman said, "The Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Yes!" Uthman asked, "Then what did he say to you?" He said, "Verily, Allah commands justice, kindness, and giving to relatives, and He forbids indecency, undesirable and rebellious deeds. He advises you so that you may take heed." Uthman says that from that time onwards, Islam began to take root in my heart and I fell in love with Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

سیدنا عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ مکہ مکرمہ میں اپنے گھر کے صحن میں تشریف فرما تھے کہ وہاں سے عثمان بن مظعون کا گزر ہوا، وہ تیزی سے گزرنے لگے، نبی ﷺ نے ان سے فرمایا: ”کیا آپ بیٹھیں گے نہیں؟“ انہوں نے کہا: کیوں نہیں، چنانچہ وہ نبی ﷺ کے سامنے آ کر بیٹھ گئے، ابھی یہ دونوں آپس میں باتیں کر ہی رہے تھے کہ اچانک نبی ﷺ کی نگاہیں اوپر کو اٹھ گئیں، آپ ﷺ نے ایک لمحے کے لئے آسمان کی طرف دیکھا، پھر آہستہ آہستہ اپنی نگاہیں نیچے کرنے لگے یہاں تک کہ آپ ﷺ نے اپنی نظریں زمین پر اپنی دائیں جانب گاڑ دیں اور اپنے مہمان عثمان سے منہ پھیر کر اس کی طرف متوجہ ہو گئے اور اپنا سر جھکا لیا، ایسا محسوس ہوا کہ وہ کسی کی بات سمجھنے کی کوشش کر رہے ہیں، عثمان یہ سب کچھ دیکھتے رہے۔ تھوڑی دیر بعد جب نبی ﷺ اس کام سے فارغ ہوئے اور جو کچھ ان سے کہا جا رہا تھا، انہوں نے سمجھ لیا تو پھر ان کی نگاہیں آسمان کی طرف اٹھ گئیں، جیسے پہلی مرتبہ ہوا تھا، نبی ﷺ کی نگاہیں کسی چیز کا پیچھا کرتی رہیں یہاں تک کہ وہ چیز آسمانوں میں چھپ گئی، اس کے بعد نبی ﷺ پہلے کی طرح عثمان کی طرف متوجہ ہوئے تو وہ کہنے لگے کہ میں آپ کے پاس آ کر کیوں بیٹھوں؟ آج آپ نے جو کچھ کیا ہے اس سے پہلے میں نے آپ کو ایسا کرتے ہوئے نہیں دیکھا، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”تم نے مجھے کیا کرتے ہوئے دیکھا ہے؟“ عثمان کہنے لگے کہ میں نے دیکھا کہ آپ کی نظریں آسمان کی طرف اٹھ گئیں، پھر آپ نے دائیں ہاتھ اپنی نگاہیں جما دیں، آپ مجھے چھوڑ کر اس طرف متوجہ ہو گئے، اور آپ نے اپنے سر کو جھکا لیا، ایسا محسوس ہوتا تھا کہ آپ سے کچھ کہا جارہا ہے، اسے آپ سمجھنے کی کوشش کررہے ہیں۔ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”کیا واقعی تم نے ایسی چیز محسوس کی ہے؟“ عثمان کہنے لگے: جی ہاں! نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”ابھی ابھی میرے پاس اللہ کا قاصد آیا تھا جبکہ تم میرے پاس ہی بیٹھے ہوئے تھے“، عثمان نے کہا: اللہ کا قاصد؟ فرمایا: ”ہاں!“ عثمان نے پوچھا کہ پھر اس نے آپ سے کیا کہا؟ فرمایا: ”بیشک اللہ عدل و احسان کا اور قریبی رشتہ داروں کو دینے کا حکم دیتا ہے اور بےحیائی، ناپسندیدہ اور سرکشی کے کاموں سے روکتا ہے، وہ تمہیں نصیحت کرتا ہے تاکہ تم نصیحت پکڑو۔“ عثمان کہتے ہیں کہ اسی وقت سے میرے دل میں اسلام نے جگہ بنانی شروع کر دی اور مجھے محمد ﷺ سے محبت ہو گئی۔
Sayyidna Abdullah bin Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Makkah Mukarramah mein apne ghar ke sahan mein tashreef farma the ki wahan se Usman bin Mazun ka guzar hua, woh tezi se guzarne lage, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unse farmaya: ”Kya aap baithenge nahi?“ Unhon ne kaha: kyun nahi, chunancha woh Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke samne a kar baith gaye, abhi yeh donon aapas mein baaten kar hi rahe the ki achanak Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki nigahein upar ko uth gayin, Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ek lamhe ke liye aasman ki taraf dekha, phir aahsta aahsta apni nigahein neeche karne lage yahan tak ki Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne apni nazrein zameen par apni dayen janib gaar dein aur apne mehman Usman se munh phair kar uski taraf mutawajjah ho gaye aur apna sar jhuka liya, aisa mehsoos hua ki woh kisi ki baat samajhne ki koshish kar rahe hain, Usman yeh sab kuchh dekhte rahe. Thodi der baad jab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is kaam se farigh huye aur jo kuchh unse kaha ja raha tha, unhon ne samajh liya to phir unki nigahein aasman ki taraf uth gayin, jaise pehli martaba hua tha, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki nigahein kisi cheez ka picha karti rahin yahan tak ki woh cheez aasmanon mein chhip gayi, iske baad Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) pehle ki tarah Usman ki taraf mutawajjah huye to woh kehne lage ki main aapke paas a kar kyun baithun? Aaj aapne jo kuchh kiya hai isse pehle mainne aapko aisa karte huye nahi dekha, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”Tumne mujhe kya karte huye dekha hai?“ Usman kehne lage ki mainne dekha ki aapki nazrein aasman ki taraf uth gayin, phir aapne dayen hath apni nigahein jama dein, aap mujhe chhod kar is taraf mutawajjah ho gaye, aur aapne apne sar ko jhuka liya, aisa mehsoos hota tha ki aapse kuchh kaha ja raha hai, ise aap samajhne ki koshish kar rahe hain. Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”Kya waqai tumne aisi cheez mehsoos ki hai?“ Usman kehne lage: ji haan! Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”Abhi abhi mere paas Allah ka qasid aaya tha jabki tum mere paas hi baithe huye the“, Usman ne kaha: Allah ka qasid? Farmaya: ”Haan!“ Usman ne puchha ki phir usne aapse kya kaha? Farmaya: ”Beshak Allah adl-o-ehsan ka aur qareebi rishtedaron ko dene ka hukum deta hai aur behayaee, napasandida aur sarkashi ke kaamon se rokta hai, woh tumhen nasihat karta hai taaki tum nasihat pakdo.“ Usman kehte hain ki usi waqt se mere dil mein Islam ne jagah banana shuru kar di aur mujhe Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se mohabbat ho gayi.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَهْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِفِنَاءِ بَيْتِهِ بِمَكَّةَ جَالِسٌ، إِذْ مَرَّ بِهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ، فَكَشَرَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" أَلَا تَجْلِسُ؟" قَالَ: بَلَى. قَالَ: فَجَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُسْتَقْبِلَهُ، فَبَيْنَمَا هُوَ يُحَدِّثُهُ إِذْ شَخَصَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِبَصَرِهِ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ، فَنَظَرَ سَاعَةً إِلَى السَّمَاءِ، فَأَخَذَ يَضَعُ بَصَرَهُ حَتَّى وَضَعَهُ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ، فَتَحَرَّفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ جَلِيسِهِ عُثْمَانَ إِلَى حَيْثُ وَضَعَ بَصَرَهُ، وَأَخَذَ يُنْغِضُ رَأْسَهُ كَأَنَّهُ يَسْتَفْقِهُ مَا يُقَالُ لَهُ، وَابْنُ مَظْعُونٍ يَنْظُرُ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى حَاجَتَهُ، وَاسْتَفْقَهَ مَا يُقَالُ لَهُ، شَخَصَ بَصَرُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ كَمَا شَخَصَ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ، فَأَتْبَعَهُ بَصَرَهُ حَتَّى تَوَارَى فِي السَّمَاءِ، فَأَقْبَلَ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ بِجِلْسَتِهِ الْأُولَى، قَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، فِيما كُنْتُ أُجَالِسُكَ وَآتِيكَ، مَا رَأَيْتُكَ تَفْعَلُ كَفِعْلِكَ الْغَدَاةَ! قَالَ:" وَمَا رَأَيْتَنِي فَعَلْتُ؟" قَالَ: رَأَيْتُكَ تَشْخَصُ بِبَصَرِكَ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ، ثُمَّ وَضَعْتَهُ حَيْثُ وَضَعْتَهُ عَلَى يَمِينِكَ، فَتَحَرَّفْتَ إِلَيْهِ وَتَرَكْتَنِي، فَأَخَذْتَ تُنْغِضُ رَأْسَكَ كَأَنَّكَ تَسْتَفْقِهُ شَيْئًا يُقَالُ لَكَ. قَالَ:" وَفَطِنْتَ لِذَاكَ؟" قَالَ عُثْمَانُ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" أَتَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ آنِفًا، وَأَنْتَ جَالِسٌ" قَالَ: رَسُولُ اللَّهِ؟! قَالَ:" نَعَمْ". قَالَ: فَمَا قَالَ لَكَ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَى وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ سورة النحل آية 90. قَالَ عُثْمَانُ فَذَلِكَ حِينَ اسْتَقَرَّ الْإِيمَانُ فِي قَلْبِي، وَأَحْبَبْتُ مُحَمَّدًا.
