The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2944
It is narrated that once, while some people were sitting with Sayyidina Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), a man came and called out to him, saying, "Are you following any Sunnah (tradition) by drinking this Nabidh (date drink), or is it, in your sight, something lighter than honey and milk?" Sayyidina Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "Once, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to Sayyidina 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, 'Give me some water to drink.'" Sayyidina 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "This Nabidh has become somewhat thick and dusty, shall we not offer you milk or honey instead?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Give us what you are giving to the people." So, he brought two vessels of Nabidh to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and at that time, both the Muhajireen (migrants) and Ansar (helpers) were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had drunk some of it, he put it down before quenching his thirst and, raising his head, said, "You have done well, do the same." Sayyidina Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) then said, "To me, the pleasure of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is more important than if milk and honey were to flow from his corners."

مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کے آس پاس کچھ لوگ بیٹھے ہوئے تھے، ایک آدمی آ کر انہیں پکارتے ہوئے کہنے لگا کہ اس نبیذ کے ذریعے آپ کسی سنت کی پیروی کر رہے ہیں یا آپ کی نگاہوں میں یہ شہد اور دودھ سے بھی زیادہ ہلکی چیز ہے؟ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ سیدنا عباس رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس آئے اور فرمایا: ”پانی پلاؤ“، سیدنا عباس رضی اللہ عنہ کہنے لگے کہ یہ نبیذ تو گدلی اور غبار آلود ہو گئی ہے، ہم آپ کو دودھ یا شہد نہ پلائیں؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”لوگوں کو جو پلا رہے ہو، ہمیں بھی وہی پلا دو“، چنانچہ وہ نبی ﷺ کے پاس نبیذ کے دو برتن لے کر آئے، اس وقت نبی ﷺ کے ساتھ مہاجرین و انصار دونوں تھے، نبی ﷺ نے جب نوش فرما لیا تو سیراب ہونے سے پہلے ہی اسے ہٹا لیا اور اپنا سر اٹھا کر فرمایا: ”تم نے خوب کیا، اسی طرح کیا کرو۔“ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما یہ کہہ کر فرمانے لگے کہ میرے نزدیک نبی ﷺ کی رضا مندی اس بات سے زیادہ اہم ہے کہ ان کے کونوں سے دودھ اور شہد بہنے لگے۔
Riwayat hai kay aik martaba Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas Radi Allaho Anhuma kay aas paas kuch log baithe hue thay, aik aadmi a kar unhain pukarte hue kahne laga kay iss nabidh kay zariye aap kisi sunnat ki pairavi kar rahe hain ya aap ki nigaahon mein yeh shahad aur doodh se bhi zyada halki cheez hai? Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas Radi Allaho Anhuma ne farmaya kay aik martaba Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam Sayyiduna Abbas Radi Allaho Anhu kay paas aaye aur farmaya: "Pani pilao", Sayyiduna Abbas Radi Allaho Anhu kahne lage kay yeh nabidh to gadli aur ghubar aalud ho gayi hai, hum aap ko doodh ya shahad na pilayen? Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya: "Logon ko jo pila rahe ho, humain bhi wohi pila do", chunancha wo Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam kay paas nabidh kay do bartan le kar aaye, uss waqt Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam kay sath Muhajireen o Ansar dono thay, Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ne jab nosh farma liya to serab hone se pehle hi usse hata liya aur apna sar utha kar farmaya: "Tum ne khoob kiya, isi tarah kiya karo." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas Radi Allaho Anhuma yeh kah kar farmane lage kay mere nazdeek Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ki raza mandi iss baat se zyada aham hai kay un kay kono se doodh aur shahad behne lage.
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَدَاوُدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، يزيد أحدهما على صاحبه: أن رجلا نادى ابن عباس، والناس حوله، فقال: أسنة تبتغون بهذا النبيذ؟ أم هو أهون عليكم من اللبن والعسل؟! فقال ابن عباس : جاء النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَبَّاسًا، فَقَالَ:" اسْقُونَا"، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ هَذَا النَّبِيذَ شَرَابٌ قَدْ مُغِثَ وَمُرِثَ، أَفَلَا نَسْقِيكَ لَبَنًا أَوْ عَسَلًا؟ قَالَ:" اسْقُونَا مِمَّا تَسْقُونَ مِنْهُ النَّاسَ" فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَمَعَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ، بِسِقَاءَيْنِ فِيهِمَا النَّبِيذُ، فَلَمَّا شَرِبَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، عَجِلَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْوَى، فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ، فَقَالَ:" أَحْسَنْتُمْ، هَكَذَا فَاصْنَعُوا". قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَرِضَا رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذَلِكَ، أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ تَسِيلَ شِعَابُهَا لَبَنًا وَعَسَلًا.
