The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3528
A villager asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), "What is the reason that the family of Muawiyah gives people water and honey to drink, the family of so-and-so gives milk to drink, and you give people Nabidh to drink? Is it because of stinginess or need?" He replied, "Neither are we stingy nor are we in need. The fact of the matter is that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to us, and Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting behind him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked for water to drink. We offered you Nabidh, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) drank it and gave the rest to Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, 'You have done well and done well, do the same.'"

ایک دیہاتی نے سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے پوچھا کہ اس کی کیا وجہ ہے کہ آل معاویہ لوگوں کو پانی اور شہد پلاتی ہے، آل فلاں دودھ پلاتی ہے اور آپ لوگ نبیذ پلاتے ہیں؟ کسی بخل کی وجہ سے یا ضرورت مندی کی بناء پر؟ انہوں نے فرمایا: نہ ہم کنجوس ہیں اور نہ ہی ضرورت مند، بات دراصل یہ ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ ہمارے پاس آئے، ان کے پیچھے سیدنا اسامہ بن زید رضی اللہ عنہ بیٹھے ہوئے تھے، نبی ﷺ نے پینے کے لئے پانی طلب کیا، ہم نے آپ کو نبیذ پلائی، نبی ﷺ نے اسے نوش فرمایا اور پس خوردہ سیدنا اسامہ رضی اللہ عنہ کو دے دیا، اور فرمایا: ”تم نے اچھا کیا اور خوب کیا، اسی طرح کیا کرو۔“
aik dehati ne syedna ibn abbas razi allaho anhuma se pucha keh us ki kya waja hai keh aal muawiya logon ko pani aur shahad pilati hai, aal falan doodh pilati hai aur aap log nabiz pilate hain? kisi buxl ki waja se ya zaroorat mandi ki bina par? unhon ne farmaya: na hum kanjoos hain aur na hi zaroorat mand, baat darasal yeh hai keh aik martaba nabi sallallaho alaihi wasallam hamare pass aaye, un ke piche syedna usama bin zaid razi allaho anhu baithe hue the, nabi sallallaho alaihi wasallam ne pine ke liye pani talab kiya, humne aap ko nabiz pilaee, nabi sallallaho alaihi wasallam ne use nosh farmaya aur pas khurda syedna usama razi allaho anhu ko de diya, aur farmaya: "tum ne achcha kiya aur khoob kiya, isi tarah kiya karo."
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ أَعْرَابِيًّا، قَالَ: لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا شَأْنُ آلِ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَسْقُونَ الْمَاءَ وَالْعَسَلَ، وَآلُ فُلَانٍ يَسْقُونَ اللَّبَنَ، وَأَنْتُمْ تَسْقُونَ النَّبِيذَ؟ أَمِنْ بُخْلٍ بِكُمْ، أَوْ حَاجَةٍ؟ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ مَا بِنَا بُخْلٌ، وَلَا حَاجَةٌ، وَلَكِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَاءَنَا، وَرَدِيفُهُ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، فَاسْتَسْقَى، فَسَقَيْنَاهُ مِنْ هَذَا يَعْنِي نَبِيذَ السِّقَايَةِ فَشَرِبَ مِنْهُ، وَقَالَ:" أَحْسَنْتُمْ، هَكَذَا فَاصْنَعُوا".
