Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4474
Qaqaa bin Hakim narrates that once Abdul Aziz bin Marwan wrote a letter to Abdullah Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that you should present your needs in front of me (so that I may order them to be fulfilled). Abdullah Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) wrote in response to this letter that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say that the upper hand is better than the lower hand and start giving to those who are your dependents, I do not ask you for anything, nor will I take the provision that Allah has given me from you.

قعقاع بن حکیم کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ عبدالعزیز بن مروان نے سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کو خط لکھا کہ آپ کی جو ضروریات ہوں وہ میرے سامنے پیش کر دیجئے (تاکہ میں انہیں پورا کر نے کا حکم دوں)۔ سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے اس خط کے جواب میں لکھا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ فرمایا کر تے تھے اوپر والا ہاتھ نیچے والے ہاتھ سے بہتر ہے اور دینے میں ان لوگوں سے ابتداء کرو جن کی پرورش تمہاری ذمہ داری ہے، میں تم سے کسی چیز کا سوال نہیں کرتا اور نہ ہی اس رزق کو لوٹاؤں گا جو اللہ مجھے تمہاری طرف سے عطاء فرمائے گا۔
Qaqa bin Hakeem kehty hain keh aik martaba Abdulaziz bin Marwan ne Sayyiduna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ko khat likha keh aap ki jo zarooriyat hon wo mere samne pesh kar dijiye (taake main unhen poora karne ka hukum dun). Sayyiduna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne iss khat ke jawab mein likha keh Rasool Allah SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam farmaya karte thy oper wala hath neechy waly hath se behtar hai aur deny mein in logon se ibtida karo jin ki parwarish tumhari zimmedari hai, main tum se kisi cheez ka sawal nahin karta aur na hi iss rizq ko lotaunga jo Allah mujhe tumhari taraf se ata farmaye ga.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ ، عَنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ ، قَالَ: كَتَبَ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ إِلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنْ ارْفَعْ إِلَيَّ حَاجَتَكَ، قَالَ: فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ ابْنُ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ:" إِنَّ الْيَدَ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ، وَلَسْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ شَيْئًا، وَلَا أَرُدُّ رِزْقًا رَزَقَنِيهِ اللَّهُ مِنْكَ".
