Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4483
Our master Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding the fast of 'Ashura that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to fast on this day himself and ordered others to fast on this day as well. When the fasts of Ramadan were made obligatory, this fast was abrogated. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) himself did not fast on this day unless it coincided with his usual days of fasting.

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما عاشورہ کے روزے کے متعلق فرماتے ہیں کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے خود بھی اس دن کا روزہ رکھا ہے اور دوسروں کو بھی اس دن کا روزہ رکھنے کا حکم دیا ہے، جب رمضان کے روزے فرض ہو گئے تو یہ روزہ متروک ہو گیا، خود سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما اس دن کا روزہ نہیں رکھتے تھے الاّ یہ کہ وہ ان کے معمول کے روزے پر آ جاتے۔
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a Aashura ke roze ke mutalliq farmate hain ke Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne khud bhi is din ka roza rakha hai aur dusron ko bhi is din ka roza rakhne ka hukm diya hai, jab Ramzan ke roze farz ho gaye to ye roza matrook ho gaya, khud Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a is din ka roza nahi rakhte the illa ye ke wo un ke mamol ke roze par aa jate.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي عَاشُورَاءَ:" صَامَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَمَرَ بِصَوْمِهِ، فَلَمَّا فُرِضَ رَمَضَانُ تُرِكَ، فَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ لَا يَصُومُهُ، إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْتِيَ عَلَى صَوْمِهِ".
