Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4611
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The month is sometimes 29 days, so if you are overtaken by clouds, then estimate." Nafi' said that Sayyidina Umar (Allah be pleased with him) used to fast on the 29th of Sha'ban if it was cloudy or dusty after the 29th.

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ارشاد فرمایا: ”مہینہ کبھی ٢٩ دن کا بھی ہوتا ہے اس لئے اگر تم پر بادل چھا جائیں تو اندازہ کر لو۔“ نافع کہتے ہیں کہ سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ شعبان کی ٢٩ تاریخ ہونے کے بعد اگر بادل یا غبار چھایا ہوا ہوتا تو روزہ رکھ لیتے تھے۔
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne irshad farmaya: “Mahina kabhi 29 din ka bhi hota hai is liye agar tum par badal chha jayen to andaza kar lo.” Nafi kahte hain ki Sayyidna Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) Shaban ki 29 tarikh hone ke bad agar badal ya ghubar chhaya hua hota to roza rakh lete the.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ، هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدُرُوا لَهُ"، قَالَ: وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِذَا كَانَ لَيْلَةُ تِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ، وَكَانَ فِي السَّمَاءِ سَحَابٌ أَوْ قَتَرٌ أَصْبَحَ صَائِمًا.
