Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5452
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “I was given the choice between two things: Intercession or half of my Ummah entering Paradise. So I chose intercession because it is more general and beneficial. Do you think it will be for the righteous? No, rather it will be for those who are involved in sins.”

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے ارشاد فرمایا: ”مجھے دو باتوں میں سے کسی ایک کا اختیار دیا گیا شفاعت کا یا نصف امت کے جنت میں داخل ہونے کا، تو میں نے شفاعت کو اختیار کر لیا، کیونکہ یہ زیادہ عام اور کفایت کرنے والی چیز ہے کیا تم سمجھتے ہو کہ یہ متقیوں کے لئے ہو گی؟ نہیں بلکہ یہ ان لوگوں کے لئے ہو گی جو گناہوں میں ملوث ہوں گے۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne irshad farmaya: “Mujhe do baaton mein se kisi ek ka ikhtiyar diya gaya shafaat ka ya nisf ummat ke jannat mein dakhil hone ka, to maine shafaat ko ikhtiyar kar liya, kyunki yeh zyada aam aur kafaayat karne wali cheez hai. Kya tum samajhte ho ki yeh muttaqion ke liye hogi? Nahi balki yeh un logon ke liye hogi jo gunaahon mein mulawwis honge.”
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَمَّرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الرَّقِّيُّ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ قُرَادٍ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:" خُيِّرْتُ بَيْنَ الشَّفَاعَةِ، أَوْ يَدْخُلُ نِصْفُ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ، فَاخْتَرْتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ، لِأَنَّهَا أَعَمُّ وَأَكْفَى، أَتُرَوْنَهَا لِلْمُنَقَّيْنَ؟! لَا، وَلَكِنَّهَا لِلْمُتَلَوِّثِينَ، الْخَطَّاءُونَ"، قَالَ زِيَادٌ: أَمَا إِنَّهَا لَحْنٌ، وَلَكِنْ هَكَذَا حَدَّثَنَا الَّذِي حَدَّثَنَا.
