Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5698
Narrated by Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that I travelled with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and with Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and neither of them would pray more than two rak'ahs during the journey. We were misguided and then Allah guided us through the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so now we will follow his example.

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے نبی ﷺ اور سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ سفر کیا ہے، یہ دونوں سفر میں دو سے زیادہ رکعتیں نہیں پڑھتے تھے، ہم پہلے گمراہ تھے پھر اللہ نے نبی ﷺ کے ذریعے ہمیں ہدایت عطاء فرمائی، اب ہم ان ہی کی اقتداء کریں گے۔
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se kehte hain ki maine Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) aur Sayyidna Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke sath safar kiya hai, ye donon safar mein do se ziada rakatein nahin parhte the, hum pehle gumrah the phir Allah ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke zariye hamein hidayat ata farmaee, ab hum un hi ki iqtida karenge.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَطَرٌ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ: سَافَرْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَعَ عُمَرَ، فَكَانَا" لَا يَزِيدَانِ عَلَى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَكُنَّا ضُلَّالًا فَهَدَانَا اللَّهُ بِهِ، فَبِهِ نَقْتَدِي".
