Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5771
It is narrated on the authority of our master Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to take an oath of allegiance on the condition of listening and obeying, then he would say: "To the best of your ability." (That is, you will listen and obey as much as possible).

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ بات سننے اور اطاعت کرنے کی شرط پر بیعت لیا کرتے تھے، پھر فرماتے تھے کہ حسب استطاعت، (جہاں تک ممکن ہو گا تم بات سنو گے اور مانو گے)۔
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) baat sunne aur itaat karne ki shart par bai't liya karte thay, phir farmate thay ki hasb-e-istata'at (jahan tak mumkin ho ga tum baat suno ge aur mano ge).
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ , يَقُولُ: كُنَّا إِذَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ، يُلَقِّنُنَا هُوَ" فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ".
