Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5937
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a person asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about the night prayer, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Pray two rak'ahs at a time, and when you fear that dawn is approaching, then pray one rak'ah with those two."

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ ایک شخص نے نبی ﷺ سے رات کی نماز سے متعلق پوچھا، تو نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”دو دو رکعتیں اور جب صبح ہو جانے کا اندیشہ ہو تو ان دو کے ساتھ ایک رکعت اور ملا لو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai keh ek martaba ek shakhs ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se raat ki namaz se mutalliq poocha, to Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”Do do rakat aur jab subah ho jane ka andesha ho to in do ke sath ek rakat aur mila lo.“
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ: سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ , فَقَالَ:" مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، فَإِذَا خَشِيتَ الصُّبْحَ فَوَاحِدَةً".
