Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5938
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “When a Jew greets you with “As-Salamu ‘Alaikum”, respond by saying only “Wa ‘Alaik” (and upon you).

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”جب کوئی یہودی تمہیں سلام کرے تو وہ «السام عليكم» کہتا ہے، اس لئے اس کے جواب میں تم صرف «وعليك» کہہ دیا کرو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: "Jab koi Yahudi tumhein salam kare to woh «alsalam عليكم» kahta hai, is liye iske jawab mein tum sirf «waalaik» kah diya karo.".
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:" إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ إِذَا سَلَّمُوا عَلَيْكُمْ قَالُوا: السَّامُ عَلَيْكُمْ"، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" فَقُلْ: وَعَلَيْكَ".
