Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 6253
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to walk in front of the funeral procession and he would say that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the three Khaleefahs after him also used to walk in front of the funeral procession.

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ وہ جنازے کے آگے چلتے تھے اور فرماتے تھے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ اور حضرات خلفاء ثلاثہ بھی جنازے کے آگے چلتے تھے۔

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَنَّ سَالِمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَهُ , أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ : كَانَ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْ الْجِنَازَةِ، وَأَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" كَانَ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا" وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ , وَعُمَرُ , وَعُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ.
