Chapter on Sunnah Practices Related to Clipping Nails, Trimming Mustache, and Similar Acts, with Ablution Not Required for Any of Them
باب السنة في الأخذ من الأظفار والشارب وما ذكر معهما وأن لا وضوء في شيء من ذلك
Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 685
(685) (a) Regarding Allah's statement { وَإِذِ ابْتَلَی إِبْرَاہِیمَ رَبُّہُ بِکَلِمَاتٍ }, Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Allah Almighty tested [Prophet Ibrahim] with matters of purification: five related to the head and five related to the body. The ones related to the head are: "Trimming the mustache, rinsing the mouth, inhaling water into the nose, using the miswak, and parting the hair." And the ones related to the body are: "Clipping the nails, shaving the pubic hair, circumcision, plucking the armpit hair, and cleaning the private parts with water after relieving oneself."
(b) Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Ten things are from the Fitra (natural disposition)." Then she mentioned them, including growing the beard and rinsing the nostrils, but she did not mention circumcision or parting the hair.

(٦٨٥) (الف) سیدنا ابن عباس (رض) اللہ کے ارشاد { وَإِذِ ابْتَلَی إِبْرَاہِیمَ رَبُّہُ بِکَلِمَاتٍ } کے متعلق فرماتے ہیں کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے طہارت کے ساتھ آزمایا ہے : پانچ کا تعلق سر سے ہے اور پانچ کا جسم سے ہے۔ سر والی یہ ہیں : ” مونچھیں کاٹنا ‘ کلی کرنا ‘ ناک میں پانی چڑھانا ‘ مسواک کرنا ‘ مانگ نکالنا اور جسم والی یہ ہیں : ناخن کاٹنا ‘ زیر ناف بال مونڈنا ‘ ختنہ کرنا ‘ بغلوں کے بال اکھیڑنا ‘ قضائے حاجت اور پیشاب کی جگہ کو پانی سے دھونا۔
(ب) سیدہ عائشہ (رض) نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) سے نقل فرماتی ہیں : ” دس چیزیں فطرت میں سے ہیں، پھر ان کا ذکر کیا اور داڑھی بڑھانے اور پوروں کو دھونے کا ذکر بھی کیا، مگر ختنہ کرنے اور مانگ نکالنے کا ذکر نہیں کیا۔
(685) (alif) syedna ibn abbas (rz) allah k irshad { wa izibtala ibrahima rabbuhu bikalimat } k mutaliq farmate hain k allah taala ne taharat k sath azmaya hai : panch ka taluq sar se hai aur panch ka jism se hai. sar wali ye hain : ” moochhen katna ‘ kali karna ‘ nak mein pani charhana ‘ miswak karna ‘ mang nikalna aur jism wali ye hain : nakhun katna ‘ zer e naf bal mundna ‘ khatna karna ‘ baghlon k bal ukhedna ‘ qaza e hajat aur peshab ki jaga ko pani se dhona.
(be) syeda ayesha (rz) nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) se naql farmati hain : ” das cheezen fitrat mein se hain, phir un ka zikar kiya aur darhi barhane aur puron ko dhone ka zikar bhi kiya, magar khatna karne aur mang nikalne ka zikar nahi kiya.
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Five things are in accordance with nature or are from the Fitra (natural disposition): Circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, clipping the moustache, trimming the nails, and plucking the hair under the armpits.

(٦٨٦) سیدنا ابوہریرہ (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : فطرت پانچ چیزیں ہیں یا پانچ چیزیں فطرت میں سے ہیں (دونوں میں سے ایک بات کہی :) ختنہ کرنا ‘ لوہا استعمال کرنا (زیر ناف بال مونڈنا) ‘ بغلوں کے بال اکھیڑنا ‘ مونچھیں کاٹنا اور ناخن تراشنا۔
Saina Abu Huraira (RA) se riwayat hai ki aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: Fitrat panch cheezein hain ya panch cheezein fitrat mein se hain (donon mein se ek baat kahi :) Khatna karna ‘ loha istemal karna (zeer naaf baal mundna) ‘ baghlon ke baal ukhaidna ‘ moonchhein kaatna aur nakhun tarashna.
Narrated Ibn `Umar (RA): Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra: circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, clipping the nails, cutting the moustache short, and plucking the hair under the armpits."

(٦٨٧) سیدنا ابن عمر (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” مونچھیں کاٹنا ‘ بغلوں کے بال اکھیڑنا ‘ ناخن کاٹنا سنت ہے۔ “
(687) Sayyidina Ibn Umar (RA) se riwayat hai ki aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: "Moochhen kaatna ' baghlon ke baal ukhera ' nakhun kaatna sunnat hai."
(688) (a) Narrated Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Let your beards grow and trim your mustaches."
(b) It was narrated from Nafi' that (the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said): "Oppose the polytheists."

(٦٨٨) (الف) سیدنا ابن عمر (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” داڑھی بڑھاؤ اور مونچھیں کاٹو۔ “
(ب) نافع سے روایت ہے کہ مشرکین کی مخالفت کرو۔
(688) (alif) Sayyidina Ibn Umar (RA) se riwayat hai ki aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya : "Darhi barhao aur monchhen kato."
(be) Nafi se riwayat hai ki mushrikeen ki mukhalafat karo.
(689) (a) Narrated Ibn 'Umar (RA): The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Act against the polytheists, lengthen the beard and trim the mustache."
(b) Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): He (ﷺ) said: "Act against the Magians."

(٦٨٩) (الف) سیدنا ابن عمر (رض) کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” مشرکین کی مخالفت کرو اور داڑھی بڑھاؤ اور مونچھیں کاٹو۔ “
(ب) ابو ہریرہ (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” مجوسیوں کی مخالفت کرو۔ “
(689) (alif) Sayyidina Ibn Umar (ra) kahte hain ki Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya : ” Mushrikeen ki mukhalafat karo aur dari barhao aur moochhen kato۔ “
(be) Abu Hurairah (ra) se riwayat hai ki aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya : ” Majusiyon ki mukhalafat karo۔ “.
Narrated Abu Huraira (RA): The Prophet (SAW) said, "Clip the mustache and grow beard, and oppose the fire worshipers."

(٦٩٠) سیدنا ابوہریرہ (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : مونچھیں کاٹو ، داڑھی کو بڑھاؤ اور مجوسیوں کی مخالفت کرو۔
(690) syedna abu hurairah (rz) se riwayat hai keh nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya : moonchhen kato, darhi ko barhao aur majusion ki mukhalifat karo.
Narrated Anas (RA): It was stipulated for us that we should shorten our mustaches, clip our nails, pluck our armpit hairs and shave our pubic hairs that we should not leave that over forty nights.

(٦٩١) سیدنا انس (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ ہمارے لیے مونچھیں کاٹنا ‘ ناخن تراشنا ‘ بغلوں کے بال اکھیڑنا اور زیر ناف بال مونڈنے کا وقت مقرر کیا گیا ہے کہ ہم چالیس رات سے زیادہ نہ چھوڑیں۔
Sayyidna Anas (RA) farmate hain ki hamare liye moonchhen kaatna ' nakhun tarashna ' baghlon ke baal ukhedna aur zer e naaf baal moondne ka waqt muqarrar kiya gaya hai ki hum chalis raat se ziada na chhoren.
Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prescribed for us a time limit of forty days for shaving the pubic hair, clipping the mustache, cutting the nails, and plucking the armpit hairs.

(٦٩٢) سیدنا انس بن مالک (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ ہمارے لیے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے زیر ناف بال مونڈنے ‘ مونچھیں کاٹنے ‘ ناخن تراشنے اور بغلوں کے بال اکھیڑنے کا وقت چالیس دن مقرر کیا ہے۔
(692) سيدنا انس بن مالک (رض) فرماتے ہيں کہ ہمارے لیے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ عليہ وآلہ وسلم) نے زير ناف بال مونڈنے ‘ مونچھيں کاٹنے ‘ ناخن تراشنے اور بغلوں کے بال اکھيڑنے کا وقت چالیس دن مقرر کيا ہے۔
(693) (a) It is narrated from Abu Majlaz: I saw Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he cut his nails. I said: Why don't you perform ablution? He said: Should I perform ablution from whom? You consider yourself more intelligent because your family named you "Wise"?
(b) It is narrated from Sha'bi: He said regarding the one who cuts his nails after ablution that it is (a cause of) cleanliness.
(c) Hasan said: It does not require ablution. And Ata' said: Let him apply water to it, meaning perform ablution. Zuhri said: If he wishes, he may wipe it with water, and if he wishes, he may leave it.
Grade: Da'if
(٦٩٣) (الف) ابومجلز سے روایت ہے کہ میں نے ابن عمر (رض) کو دیکھا، انھوں نے ناخن کاٹے، میں نے کہا : آپ وضو کیوں نہیں کرتے ؟ انھوں نے کہا : کس سے وضو کروں ؟ تم خود کو زیادہ عقلمند سمجھتے ہو اس لیے کہ تمہارے خاندان نے تمہارا نام عقلمند رکھا ہے ؟
(ب) شعبی سے روایت ہے : وہ اس شخص کے بارے میں فرماتے ہیں جو اپنے ناخنوں کو وضو کے بعد کاٹتا ہے کہ یہ پاکیزگی (کا باعث) ہے۔
(ج) حسن کہتے ہیں : اس میں وضو نہیں ہے اور عطاء کہتے ہیں : اس کو پانی لگا یعنی وضو کر۔ زہری کہتے ہیں : اگر چاہے تو پانی سے اس پر مسح کرلے اور اگر چاہے تو چھوڑ دے۔
(693) (alif) AbuMajlaz se riwayat hai ki maine Ibn Umar (rz) ko dekha, unhon ne nakhun kate, maine kaha : aap wuzu kyun nahin karte ? unhon ne kaha : kis se wuzu karun ? tum khud ko ziada aqalmand samajhte ho is liye ki tumhare khandan ne tumhara naam aqalmand rakha hai ?
(be) Shabi se riwayat hai : woh us shakhs ke bare mein farmate hain jo apne nakhunon ko wuzu ke baad katta hai ki yeh pakizgi (ka baais) hai .
(jeem) Hassan kahte hain : is mein wuzu nahin hai aur Ata kahte hain : is ko pani laga yani wuzu kar. Zuhri kahte hain : agar chahe to pani se is par masah karle aur agar chahe to chhor de.
Zuhrī said concerning the one who trims his nails, cuts his moustache or cuts his hair, “If he wishes he may wipe over it with water, and if he wishes he may leave it.”

(٦٩٤) زہری اس شخص کے متعلق جو اپنے ناخن تراشے ، مونچھیں کاٹے یا اپنے بال کاٹے فرماتے ہیں : اگر چاہے تو اس پر پانی سے مسح کرے اور اگر چاہے تو چھوڑ دے۔
(694) Zehri us shakhs ke mutalliq jo apne nakhun tarashe, moochen kaate ya apne baal kaate farmate hain: Agar chahe to us par pani se masah kare aur agar chahe to chhor de.
