Chapter on Tayammum Sufficing for One in a State of Major Ritual Impurity (Janabah) If Water Is Not Available
باب الجنب يكفيه التيمم إذا لم يجد الماء

Imran bin Husain Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw a man sitting apart and not praying with the people. He (the Prophet) said, "O so-and-so! What prevented you from praying with the people?" He said, "O Messenger of Allah! I was in a state of impurity and there was no water." He (the Prophet) said, "You should have performed Tayammum with clean earth, for that would have sufficed you."

(١٠٣٤) عمران بن حصین خزاعی (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ایک شخص کو دیکھا جو الگ بیٹھا ہوا تھا ۔ اس نے لوگوں کے ساتھ نماز نہیں پڑھی تھی، آپ نے فرمایا : ” اے فلاں ! کس چیز نے تم کو منع کیا تھا کہ لوگوں کے ساتھ نماز پڑھو ؟ اس نے عرض کیا : اے اللہ کے رسول ! میں جنبی تھا اور پانی نہیں تھا۔ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : مٹی کو لازم پکڑتا وہ تجھے کافی تھی۔
(1034) Imran bin Husain Khazaai (RA) farmate hain keh Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne aik shakhs ko dekha jo alag baitha hua tha. Us ne logon ke sath namaz nahin parhi thi, aap ne farmaya: “Aye falan! Kis cheez ne tum ko mana kiya tha keh logon ke sath namaz parho?” Us ne arz kiya: “Aye Allah ke Rasul! Main junubi tha aur pani nahin tha.” Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: “Mitti ko laazim pakarta woh tujhe kaafi thi.”
(1035) Ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abza narrated from his father that he went to 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and 'Ammar ibn Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Do you remember when we were on a military expedition, and we became sexually impure, so I rolled in the dust? Then we came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). We mentioned this matter to you (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and you (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'It would have been sufficient for you to do like this,' and he described the manner of performing tayammum."

(١٠٣٥) ابن عبد الرحمن بن ابزیٰ اپنے والد سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ میں سیدنا عمر (رض) بن خطاب کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا ، انھیں سیدنا عمار بن یاسر (رض) نے کہا : آپ کو یاد ہے جب ہم ایک سریہ میں تھے، ہم جنبی ہوگئے تو میں مٹی میں لوٹ پوٹ ہوا، پھر ہم نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس آئے ۔ ہم نے یہ بات آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) سے ذکر کی، آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” تجھ کو اس طرح کافی تھا اور تیمم کا طریقہ بیان کیا۔ “
Ibn Abdur Rahman bin Abza apne walid se naql farmate hain ki mein Sayyidna Umar (RA) bin Khattab ki khidmat mein hazir hua, unhen Sayyidna Ammar bin Yasir (RA) ne kaha: Aapko yaad hai jab hum ek sariya mein thay, hum junubi hogaye to mein mitti mein laut pot hua, phir hum Nabi (SAW) ke paas aaye. Humne yeh baat aap (SAW) se zikr ki, aap (SAW) ne farmaya: "Tujhe is tarah kaafi tha" aur tayammum ka tareeqa bayaan kiya.
Narrated `Ammar: I became sexually impure and had no water, so I rolled myself in the dust like the rolling of animals, and then I came to the Prophet. He said, "It would have been sufficient for you (to clean yourself) if you had rubbed the earth with your hands and then blown off the dust and then passed them over your face and hands."

(١٠٣٦) سیدنا عمار (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ میں ” رمل “ جگہ میں جنبی ہوگیا تو میں چوپائے کی طرح لوٹ پوٹ ہوا، پھر میں نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس آیا، میں نے آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کو خبر دی، آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” تجھ کو تیمم کافی تھا۔ “
(1036) Syedna Ammar (RA) se riwayat hai keh mein "Raml" jaga mein junubi hogaya tou mein chopaye ki tarah laut pot huwa, phir mein Nabi (SAW) ke pass aaya, maine aap (SAW) ko khabar di, aap (SAW) ne farmaya : "Tujh ko tayammum kafi tha."
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse { وَلاَ جُنُبًا إِلاَّ عَابِرِی سَبِیلٍ حَتَّی تَغْتَسِلُوا } was revealed concerning the traveler, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When a person becomes sexually impure and he does not find water, then he should perform Tayammum and pray. When he finds water, he should perform Ghusl."

(١٠٣٧) سیدنا علی (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ جب یہ آیت { وَلاَ جُنُبًا إِلاَّ عَابِرِی سَبِیلٍ حَتَّی تَغْتَسِلُوا } مسافر کے متعلق نازل ہوئی تو آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : جب کوئی شخص جنبی ہوجائے اور وہ پانی نہ پائے تو تیمم کرے اور نماز پڑھے ۔ جب پانی مل جائے تو غسل کرلے۔
Saina Ali (RA) se riwayat hai ki jab yeh ayat "Wala junuban illaa aabiri sabeelin hatta taghtasiloo" musafir ke mutalliq nazil hui to Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: Jab koi shakhs junubi hojaye aur wo pani na paye to tayammum kare aur namaz parhe. Jab pani mil jaye to ghusl karle.
