Narrated Sa'id bin Yasar: I was accompanying Ibn 'Umar on the way to Mecca. When I was afraid of the approaching dawn, I got down (from my ride) and started offering the Witr prayer. Ibn 'Umar said to me, "Is there not in the life of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) a good example for you to follow?" I said, "Yes, of course, there is." He said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to offer the Witr prayer while riding his camel.

(٢٢١٢) سعید بن یسار سے روایت ہے کہ میں ابن عمر (رض) کا مکہ کے راستے میں (شریکـ سفر) تھا۔ جب مجھے صبح ہونے کا ڈر ہوا تو میں سواری سے اترا اور وتر نماز پڑھنے لگا۔ مجھے ابن عمر (رض) نے کہا : کیا تمہارے لیے رسول اللہ کی زندگی میں اسوہ حسنہ نہیں ہے ! میں نے کہا : کیوں نہیں ! ضرور ہے۔ انھوں نے فرمایا : رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اونٹ پر وتر پڑھ لیا کرتے تھے۔
Saeed bin Yasar se riwayat hai ki main Ibn Umar (RA) ka Makkah ke raste mein (sharik safar) tha. Jab mujhe subah hone ka dar hua to main sawari se utra aur witr namaz parhne laga. Mujhe Ibn Umar (RA) ne kaha: kya tumhare liye Rasool Allah ki zindagi mein usool e hasna nahi hai! Maine kaha: kyun nahi! Zarur hai. Unhon ne farmaya: Rasool Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) unt par witr parh liya karte the.
Nafi' narrated that Ibn 'Umar used to offer (optional) prayers while riding, wherever his mount took him, and he would also offer Witr in the same manner. He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to do the same.

(٢٢١٣) نافع سے روایت ہے کہ سیدنا ابن عمر (رض) اپنی سواری پر ہی (نفل) نماز پڑھ لیا کرتے تھے، جدھر بھی وہ آپ کو لے کر چلتی اور وتر بھی اسی پر ادا کرلیتے تھے اور فرماتے تھے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) بھی اسی طرح کرتے تھے۔

Jarir bin Hazim narrated that I asked Nafi': Did Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to offer Witr prayer while riding? He replied: Does Witr have superiority over all other voluntary prayers? By Allah! He used to offer Witr while riding.

(٢٢١٥) جریر بن حازم سے روایت ہے کہ میں نے نافع سے پوچھا : کیا ابن عمر (رض) سواری پر وتر پڑھا کرتے تھے ؟ تو انھوں نے فرمایا : کیا وتروں کو دیگر تمام نوافل پر برتری حاصل ہے ؟ اللہ کی قسم ! وہ سواری پر ہی وتر ادا کرلیا کرتے تھے۔
(2215) Jarir bin Hazim se riwayat hai ki maine Nafi se poocha: kya Ibn Umar (RA) sawari par witr parha karte thay? To unhon ne farmaya: kya witron ko deegar tamam nawafil par bartari hasil hai? Allah ki qasam! Woh sawari par hi witr ada kar liya karte thay.
Thaur ibn Abi Fakhta reported from his father that Sayyidina Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to offer Witr prayer while riding (his mount). (In Thawri's narration, there is also an addition that he (rak'ah, prostration) would perform with gestures.)

(٢٢١٧) ثویر بن ابی فاختہ اپنے والد سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ سیدنا علی (رض) اپنی سواری پر وتر ادا کرلیا کرتے تھے۔ (ثوری کی سند سے اس میں یہ اضافہ بھی ہے کہ وہ (رکوع، سجدے) اشارے کے ساتھ ادا کرتے تھے۔
