Chapter on Silent Recitation in Dhuhr and Asr, and the Obligation of Recitation in Them

Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 3060
Abu Mu'mar narrated that we asked Khabab bin al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him), "Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recite (Quran) in the Zuhr and Asr prayers?" He said, "Yes." We said, "How did you know?" He said, "By the movement of his (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) blessed beard."

(٣٠٦٠) ابو معمر سے روایت ہے کہ ہم نے خباب بن ارت (رض) سے پوچھا : کیا رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ظہر اور عصر کی نماز میں قرات کرتے تھے ؟ انھوں نے بتایا : ہاں۔ ہم نے کہا : آپ کو کیسے پتا چلتا تھا ؟ انھوں نے فرمایا : آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی داڑھی مبارک کے ہلنے سے۔
(3060) Abu Mu'mar se riwayat hai ki hum ne Khabbab bin Aratt (RA) se poochha: kya Rasool Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) Zuhar aur Asr ki namaz mein qirat karte the? Unhon ne bataya: haan. Hum ne kaha: aap ko kaise pata chalta tha? Unhon ne farmaya: aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ki dari Mubarak ke hilne se.
(3061) It is narrated on the authority of Hadrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: There is no prayer without recitation. And what he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made us hear, we have made you hear, and what he concealed from us, we have concealed from you.

(٣٠٦١) حضرت ابوہریرہ (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : قراءت کے بغیر کوئی نماز نہیں ہوتی اور آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ہمیں جو سنایا ہم نے تمہیں سنا دیا اور جو انھوں نے ہم پر مخفی رکھا وہ ہم نے آپ پر مخفی رکھا۔
(3061) Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) se riwayat hai keh Rasool Allah (SAW) ne farmaya: Qirat ke baghair koi namaz nahi hoti aur aap (SAW) ne humein jo sunaya humne tumhein suna diya aur jo unhon ne hum par mukffi rakha woh humne aap par mukffi rakha.
Malik narrated from Abdullah bin Hantab that the people differed about reciting aloud in the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers. They came to Kharijah bin Zaid bin Thabit, and he said, "My father told me, 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led us in praying Zuhr and 'Asr, and during the standing (in prayer), your lips were moving.' I think he was reciting, so this is what we do."

(٣٠٦٢) مطلب بن عبداللہ بن حنطب سے روایت ہے کہ لوگوں نے ظہر اور عصر کی قراءت میں اختلاف کیا، پھر وہ خارجہ بن زید بن ثابت کے پاس آئے تو انھوں نے فرمایا : مجھے میرے والد نے بتایا کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ہمیں ظہر اور عصر کی نماز پڑھائی تو قیام کے دوران آپ کے ہونٹ مبارک حرکت کر رہے تھے۔ میں یہی سمجھتا ہوں کہ وہ قراءت کی وجہ سے ہل رہے تھے ۔ بس ہم بھی اس طرح کرتے ہیں۔
3062 matlab bin abdullah bin hantab se riwayat hai ki logon ne zohar aur asr ki qirat mein ikhtilaf kiya phir woh kharija bin zaid bin sabit ke pass aaye to unhon ne farmaya mujhe mere walid ne bataya ki rasool allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne hamen zohar aur asr ki namaz parhayi to qayam ke dauran aap ke hont mubarak harkat kar rahe the main yahi samajhta hun ki woh qirat ki wajah se hil rahe the bas hum bhi is tarah karte hain
Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah narrates from his father that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite Surah Fatiha and another Surah in the first two rak'ahs of Zuhr prayer. Sometimes he would let us hear a verse or two. He would recite only Surah Fatiha in the last two rak'ahs, and he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would not make the second rak'ah as long as the first. He would do the same in the Asr and Fajr prayers.

(٣٠٦٣) عبداللہ بن ابی قتادہ اپنے والد سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ظہر کی پہلی دو رکعتوں میں سورة فاتحہ اور ایک سورت مزید پڑھتے تھے۔ بعض اوقات ہمیں ایک آدھ آیت سنا بھی دیتے۔ آپ آخری دو رکعتوں میں صرف سورة فاتحہ پڑھتے تھے اور آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پہلی رکعت کو جتنا لمبا کرتے تھے دوسری کو اتنا لمبا نہیں کرتے تھے اور عصر اور فجر کی نماز میں بھی اسی طرح فرماتے تھے۔
