Chapter on Drawing a Line if He Does Not Find a Stick
باب الخط إذا لم يجد عصا

Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When one of you prays, let him place something in front of him. If he cannot find anything, let him erect his staff. If he does not have a staff, let him draw a line. Then nothing will pass in front of him but it will be repelled from him.”
In another narration, it is reported by Ruh b. Qasim and Ibn Uyainah. In a narration other than these two, it is reported from Ismail from Sufyan Thawri.

(٣٤٦٦) حضرت ابوہریرہ (رض) بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : جب کوئی شخص نماز پڑھے تو اپنے سامنے کوئی چیز رکھ لے۔ اگر کوئی چیز نہ ملے تو لاٹھی کھڑی کرلے اور اگر اس کے پاس لاٹھی بھی نہ ہو تو ایک لکیر کھینچ لے۔ پھر اس کے سامنے سے گزرنے والی کوئی بھی چیز اسے نقصان نہیں پہنچائے گی۔
اسی طرح روح بن قاسم اور ابن عیینہ نے ان دو روایتوں میں سے ایک کو اور سفیان ثوری نے اسی روایت کو اسماعیل سے روایت کیا ہے۔
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) bayan karte hain keh Rasool Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: Jab koi shakhs namaz parhe to apne samne koi cheez rakh le. Agar koi cheez na mile to lathi khadi kar le aur agar uske pas lathi bhi na ho to ek lakeer khench le. Phir uske samne se guzarne wali koi bhi cheez use nuqsan nahin pahunchaye gi.
Isi tarah Ruh bin Qasim aur Ibn e Aine ne in do rivayaton mein se ek ko aur Sufian Sauri ne isi rivayat ko Ismail se rivayat kiya hai.
Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When any one of you prays, he should place something in front of him. If he cannot find anything, he should draw a line. Then, nothing that passes in front of it will harm him.

(٣٤٦٧) حضرت ابوہریرہ (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : جب تم میں سے کوئی نماز پڑھے تو اسے اپنے سامنے کوئی چیز رکھ لینی چاہیے۔ اگر کوئی چیز نہ مل سکے تو لکیر ہی کھینچ لے، پھر اس کے سامنے سے گزرنے والی کوئی بھی چیز اسے نقصان نہیں پہنچائے گی۔
Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) se riwayat hai keh Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: Jab tum mein se koi namaz parhe to use apne samne koi cheez rakh leni chahie. Agar koi cheez na mil sake to lakeer hi khench le, phir uske samne se guzarne wali koi bhi cheez use nuqsan nahin pahunchaye gi.
Narrated Abu Huraira (RA): The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When anyone of you offers prayer in the open, he should fix something, such as a stick, in front of him.
Ali (RA) narrated that I said to Sufyan (RA), "The people differ about the name of this (man): some of them say, 'Abu 'Amr bin Muhammad,' and some say, 'Abu Muhammad bin 'Amr.'" Sufyan (RA) thought for a while and then said, "I remember him as Abu Muhammad bin 'Amr." I said to Sufyan, "Why does Ibn Juraij say, 'Abu 'Amr bin Muhammad'?" Sufyan kept quiet for a while and then said, "Abu Muhammad bin 'Amr or Abu 'Amr bin Muhammad. I thought he was the brother of 'Amr bin Harith."

(٣٤٦٨) سیدنا ابوہریرہ (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : جب تم میں سے کوئی ویرانے میں نماز پڑھ رہا ہو تو اپنے سامنے کوئی عصا وغیرہ نصب کرلے۔
علی (رح) بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں نے سفیان (رح) سے کہا : لوگ اس (ابومحمد) نام کے متعلق اختلاف رکھتے ہیں، بعض ابو عمرو بن محمد کہتے ہیں اور بعض ابو محمد بن عمرو ۔ سفیان (رح) نے تھوڑی دیر سوچنے کے بعد بتایا : مجھے تو ابو محمد بن عمرو یاد ہے۔ میں نے سفیان سے کہا تو ابن جریج ابوعمرو بن محمد کیوں کہتے ہیں ؟ سفیان کچھ دیر خاموش رہے ، پھر فرمایا : ابو محمد بن عمرو یا ابوعمرو بن محمد۔ پھر سفیان سے کہا : میں اسے عمرو بن حریث (رح) کا بھائی سمجھتا تھا۔
(3468) Syedna Abu Huraira (RA) se riwayat hai ke aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya : Jab tum mein se koi virane mein namaz parh raha ho to apne samne koi asa waghaira nasab karle. Ali (RA) bayan karte hain ke maine Sufiyan (RA) se kaha : Log is (Abu Muhammad) naam ke mutalliq ikhtilaf rakhte hain, baaz Abu Amr bin Muhammad kahte hain aur baaz Abu Muhammad bin Amr. Sufiyan (RA) ne thori dair sochne ke baad bataya : Mujhe to Abu Muhammad bin Amr yaad hai. Maine Sufiyan se kaha to Ibn Juraij Abu Amr bin Muhammad kyun kahte hain? Sufiyan kuch dair khamosh rahe, phir farmaya : Abu Muhammad bin Amr ya Abu Amr bin Muhammad. Phir Sufiyan se kaha : Main ise Amr bin Haris (RA) ka bhai samjhta tha.
(3469) Imam Abu Dawud (may God have mercy on him) said, "I heard about Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (may God have mercy on him) that he would apply kohl following the roundness of the moon." Imam Abu Dawud (may God have mercy on him) said, "I heard from Musaddad, and he narrated on the authority of Ibn Dawud, that the line of kohl should be applied lengthwise."

(٣٤٦٩) امام ابوداؤد (رح) فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے امام احمد بن حنبل (رح) کے بارے میں سنا کہ وہ لکیر چاند کی گولائی میں لگائے۔
امام ابوداود (رح) فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے مسدد سے سنا اور انھوں نے ابن داؤد کے حوالے سے بیان کیا کہ لکیر لمبائی کے رخ ہونی چاہیے۔
(3469) Imam Abu Dawood (rah) farmate hain ki maine Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (rah) ke bare mein suna ki woh lakeer chand ki golai mein lagaye.
Imam Abu Dawood (rah) farmate hain ki maine Musaddad se suna aur unhon ne Ibn Dawood ke hawale se bayan kiya ki lakeer lambai ke rukh honi chahiye.
(3470) Bishr bin Musa narrated to me that I asked Humaydi (rahimahullah) about the streak (on the forehead of a prostrating person) so he indicated to me, that is, like the shape of the crescent moon.

(٣٤٧٠) بشر بن موسیٰ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں نے حمیدی (رح) سے لکیر کے بارے میں دریافت کیا تو انھوں نے مجھے اشارہ کر کے بتایا یعنی چاند کی شکل جیسی۔
(3470) Bashr bin Musa bayan karte hain ki maine Humaidi (rah) se lakeer ke bare mein daryaft kiya to unhon ne mujhe ishara kar ke bataya yani chand ki shakal jaisi.
