Chapter: The Recommendation to Increase in Seeking Forgiveness During the Rain Prayer and to Say Frequently: Seek Forgiveness from Your Lord, Indeed He is Forgiving. He Will Send Rain Upon You in Abundance
باب ما يستحب من كثرة الاستغفار في خطبة الاستسقاء وأن يقول كثيرا: استغفروا ربكم إنه كان غفارا. يرسل السماء عليكم مدرارا
Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 6421
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever persists in seeking forgiveness from Allah, Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress, and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide him from where he does not expect."

(٦٤٢١) عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : جس شخص نے استغفار کو لازم کرلیا اللہ تعالیٰ اس کو ہر غم سے فراخی عطا کردیں گے اور ہر تنگی سے نجات دیں گے اور رزق وہاں سے عطا کرے گا جہاں سے اسے وہم و گمان بھی نہیں۔
(6421) Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) kehte hain ki Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: Jis shakhs ne istighfar ko lazim karliya Allah Ta'ala usko har gham se farakhi ata karenge aur har tangi se nijaat denge aur rizq wahan se ata karenge jahan se usey wohm o guman bhi nahin.
Jaza Sadi reported from his father that he said: 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went out to invoke Allah for rain and he did not do much besides seeking forgiveness (Istighfar). So I said, "Why does he not say that for which purpose we came out? I do not know that Istisqaa (prayer for rain) is Istighfar." But we were granted rain.'

(٦٤٢٢) جزہ سعدی اپنے والد سے بیان کرتے ہیں کہ انھوں نے کہا : عمر (رض) بارش کی دعا کرنے کیلئے نکلے اور انھوں نے استغفار سے کچھ زیادہ نہ کیا تو میں نے کہا کہ وہ کیوں نہیں کہتے کہ ہم کس مقصد کے لیے نکلے میں نہیں جانتا کہ استسقاء سے مراد استغفار ہے۔ مگر ہمیں بارش دے دی گئی۔
6422 Juza Saadi apne walid se bayan karte hain ke unhon ne kaha Umar raz barish ki dua karne ke liye nikle aur unhon ne istigfar se kuchh zyada na kiya to main ne kaha ke woh kyon nahin kahte ke hum kis maqsad ke liye nikle main nahin janta ke istisqa se murad istigfar hai magar hamen barish de di gai
The people narrated that during the time of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), a drought afflicted the people. So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ascended the pulpit. He prayed for rain, but he did not do anything except for seeking forgiveness and repenting. Until he came down from the pulpit, the people said that we did not hear you asking for rain. O Commander of the Faithful! So he said, "I have indeed asked for rain with the keys of the sky with which the rain is sent down." Then he recited this blessed verse: { Ask forgiveness of your Lord; indeed, He is ever Forgiving. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers. And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers. } [Hud : 52] { And ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him } [Hud: 90] I have found it in my Book (with the keys of the sky). Mutarrif said (with the canals of the sky), "These are the spouts of the sky."

(٦٤٢٣) شعبی بیان کرتے ہیں کہ عمر (رض) کے دور میں لوگوں کو قحط سالی نے آلیا تو عمر (رض) منبر پر چڑھے ۔ انھوں نے بارش کی دعا کروائی مگر توبہ و استغفار کے علاوہ کچھ نہ کیا۔ یہاں تک کہ وہ منبر سے اتر آئے تو لوگوں نے کہا کہ ہم نے نہیں سنا کہ آپ نے بارش بھی مانگی ہو۔ اے امیر المؤمنین ! تو انھوں نے کہا کہ میں نے بارش ہی طلب کی ہے آسمان کی ان چابیوں سے جس سے بارش نازل کی جاتی ہے۔ پھر انھوں نے یہ آیت مبارکہ تلاوت کی { اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّکُمْ إِنَّہُ کَانَ غَفَّارًا یُرْسِلِ السَّمَائَ عَلَیْکُمْ مِدْرَارًا } { وَیَزِدْکُمْ قُوَّۃً إِلَی قُوَّتِکُمْ وَلاَ تَتَوَلَّوْا مُجْرِمِینَ } [ھود : ٥٢] { وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّکُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَیْہِ } [ھود : ٩٠] میں نے اسے ہی اپنی کتاب میں پایا ہے (بِمَفَاتِیحِ السَّمَائِ ) مطرف نے کہا (بِمَجَادِیحِ السَّمَائِ ) آسمان کے یہ نالے۔
(6423) Shobay bayan karte hain ke Umar (rz) ke daur mein logon ko qehat sali ne aaliya to Umar (rz) mimbar par chadhe. Unhon ne barish ki dua karwai magar toba wa isteghfar ke ilawa kuch na kia. Yahan tak ke wo mimbar se utar aaye to logon ne kaha ke hum ne nahin suna ke aap ne barish bhi maangi ho. Aye ameerul momineen! To unhon ne kaha ke maine barish hi talab ki hai aasman ki un chabiyon se jis se barish nazil ki jati hai. Phir unhon ne yeh ayat mubarakah tilawat ki { astaghfiru rabbakum innahu kana ghaffarany yursil assama a'alaikum midrar a} { wayazidkum quwwatan ila quwwatikum wala tatawalla mujrimeen} [Hud:52] { wastagfiru rabbakum thumma tubu ilaihi} [Hud: 90] maine ise hi apni kitab mein paya hai (bimafatihissama'i). Mutraf ne kaha (bimajadihissama'i) aasman ke yeh nale.
It is narrated that ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) went out to pray for rain and he only sought forgiveness from Allah and did nothing else, and when he came back, he was told: “We did not see you pray for rain.” ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I did ask the One Who controls the spouts of the sky, from where the rain falls.” And then he recited these verses: {Ask forgiveness of your Lord; verily, He is Oft-Forgiving. He will send rain to you in abundance.} [Nuh 71:10-11] and {And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) rain in abundance.} [Hud 11:52].

(٦٤٢٤) شعبی بیان کرتے ہیں کہ عمر بن خطاب (رض) بارش مانگنے کیلئے نکلے اور انھوں نے صرف استغفار ہی کیا اس کے علاوہ کچھ بھی نہ کیا اور پلٹ آئے تو ان سے کہا گیا کہ ہم نے تو نہیں دیکھا کہ آپ نے بارش مانگی ہو تو عمر (رض) نے کہا کہ میں نے بارش مانگی ہے آسمان کے پرنالوں میں سے جہاں سے بارش اترتی ہے۔ پھر انھوں نے یہ آیت تلاوت کی { اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّکُمْ إِنَّہُ کَانَ غَفَّارًا یُرْسِلِ السَّمَائَ عَلَیْکُمْ مِدْرَارًا } { وَیَا قَوْمِ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّکُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَیْہِ یُرْسِلِ السَّمَائَ عَلَیْکُمْ مِدْرَارًا } [ھود : ٥٢] ۔
(6424) Shoabi bayan karte hain ke Umar bin Khattab (RA) barish mangne ke liye nikle aur unhon ne sirf istighfar hi kiya iske alawa kuch bhi nah kia aur palat aaye to unse kaha gaya ke humne to nahin dekha ke aap ne barish mangi ho to Umar (RA) ne kaha ke main ne barish mangi hai aasman ke parnalon mein se jahan se barish utarti hai. Phir unhon ne yeh ayat tilawat ki { Astaghfiru Rabbakum Innahu Kana Ghaffara Yursilis Samaa Alaikum Midrara } { Wa Ya Qawmi Astaghfiru Rabbakum Thumma Tubu Ilaihi Yursilis Samaa Alaikum Midrara } [Hud : 52] .
