Chapter on One Who Speaks Ignorantly Despite the Prohibition of Speech
باب من تكلم جاهلا بتحريم الكلام
Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 3351
(3351) (a) Mu'awiya bin Hakam As-Sulami reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, we have recently embraced Islam and Allah has favored us with it (Islam) and some of us take omens by birds. He (the Holy Prophet) said: It is nothing but a fancy that occurs to their minds, so it should not prevent them (from doing anything they intend to do). He (Mu'awiya) said: I further said: Messenger of Allah, there are some among us who practice divination by drawing lines (geomancy). He (the Holy Prophet) said: There was a Prophet amongst Prophets who used to practice divination by drawing lines; so he whose practice conforms to his practice, it is right. He (Mu'awiya) said: I further said: Messenger of Allah, there are some among us who get their omnes through soothsayers (Kahins) He said: You should not go to them. He (Mu'awiya) said: Messenger of Allah, there are some among us who speak about the auspiciousness of good omens and the inauspiciousness of bad omens. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: That is something which they find in their own hearts; let them not desist from anything because of it. He (Mu'awiya bin Hakam As-Sulami) reported: I joined the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in prayer and a person amongst us sneezed. I said: May Allah have mercy upon you. Thereupon the people stared at me. I said: May your mothers be bereaved of you! Why do you stare at me? They struck their hands on their thighs. I came to know that they meant by that I should observe silence. So I kept quiet. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) finished the prayer - my father and mother be sacrificed for him; I have not seen a teacher before him or after him, more kind and lenient in instruction than he - by Allah, he neither chided me, nor beat me, nor abused me, but said only: Verily this prayer is not the place meant for the talks of people, but (it is meant) for glorifying Allah, uttering His greatness and recitation of the Qur'an or as he intended to say. (b) This hadith has been narrated on another chain of transmitters also, but in that (the words are):" He said: I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said to him: There are some persons amongst us... "

(٣٣٥١) (ا) معاویہ بن حکم سلمی بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) سے عرض کیا : ہم لوگ نئے نئے مسلمان ہوئے ہیں، اللہ نے ہمیں اسلام کی نعمت سے نواز دیا ہے۔ ابھی بھی ہم میں سے کچھ لوگ پرندوں کے ذریعے فال لیتے ہیں، آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : یہ محض وہم ہے جو ان کے ذہنوں میں ہے۔ یہ فال وغیرہ انھیں (کسی کام کے کرنے سے) نہ روکے۔ فرماتے ہیں میں نے عرض کیا : اے اللہ کے رسول ! ہم میں سے بعض لوگ کاہنوں (غیب کی خبریں بتانے والوں) کے پاس جاتے ہیں۔ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : وہ نہ جایا کریں۔ انھوں نے پھر عرض کیا : اے اللہ کے رسول ! ہم میں سے کچھ لوگ لکیریں کھینچتے ہیں (اور ان سے فال لیتے ہیں) آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : انبیاء ۔ میں سے صرف ایک نبی (حضرت ادریس (علیہ السلام) ) خط کھینچتے تھے لہٰذا جس کا خط ان کے موافق ہو تو وہ درست ہے۔ فرماتے ہیں کہ ایک دفعہ میں رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے ہمراہ نماز پڑھ رہا تھا۔ ایک نمازی نے چھینک ماری تو میں نے کہہ دیا : ” یرحمک اللہ “ تو لوگ میری طرف ترچھی نظروں سے دیکھنے لگے۔ میں نے کہا : تمہاری مائیں تمہیں گم پائیں تم مجھے کیوں دیکھ رہے ہو ؟ انھوں نے اپنی رانوں پر ہاتھ مارنے شروع کردیے۔ میں سمجھ گیا کہ وہ مجھے چپ کروانا چاہتے ہیں (تو میں ناراض ہوا) لیکن خاموش ہوگیا۔ جب رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نماز سے فارغ ہوئے تو آپ نے مجھے بلایا ، آپ پر میرے ماں باپ قربان ہوں۔ میں نے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) سے بڑھ کر مشفق اور مہربان استاد کسی کو نہیں دیکھا نہ آپ سے پہلے اور نہ آپ کے بعد۔ اللہ کی قسم ! آپ نے مجھے مارا نہ ڈانٹا اور نہ ہی برا بھلا کہا بلکہ صرف اتنا فرمایا : یہ نماز ہے اس میں باتیں کرنا جائز نہیں، اس میں تو تسبیح تکبیر اور تلاوت قرآن ہوتی ہے۔۔۔ (ب) یہ حدیث دوسری سند سے بھی اسی طرح ہے مگر اس میں ان الفاظ ” انا کنا حدیث عہد بجاہلیۃ فجاء اللہ الاسلام “ کی جگہ یہ الفاظ ہیں : ” قال اتیت النبی فقلت : ان رجالا منا۔۔۔
(3351) (a) Muawiya bin Hakam Salmi bayan karte hain ke maine Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) se arz kiya : hum log naye naye musalman huye hain, Allah ne hamen Islam ki naimat se nawaza hai. Abhi bhi hum mein se kuch log parindon ke zariye faal lete hain, aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya : yeh mehza waham hai jo in ke zehnon mein hai. Yeh faal waghaira inhen (kisi kaam ke karne se) na roke. Farmate hain maine arz kiya : aye Allah ke Rasul ! hum mein se baaz log kahinon (ghaib ki khabrain batane walon) ke paas jate hain. Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya : woh na jaya karein. Unhon ne phir arz kiya : aye Allah ke Rasul ! hum mein se kuch log lakiren khenchte hain (aur in se faal lete hain) aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya : anbiya . mein se sirf ek nabi (Hazrat Idrees (Alaihissalam) ) khat khenchte the lehaza jis ka khat in ke muwafiq ho to woh durust hai. Farmate hain ke ek dafa main Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ke hamrah namaz parh raha tha. Ek namaazi ne chheenk maari to maine keh diya : ” Yarhamuk Allah “ to log meri taraf terchhi nazron se dekhne lage. Maine kaha : tumhari mayein tumhen gum payein tum mujhe kyun dekh rahe ho ? Unhon ne apni ranon par hath marne shuru kar diye. Main samajh gaya ke woh mujhe chup karwana chahte hain (to main naraaz hua) lekin khamosh hogaya. Jab Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) namaz se farigh huye to aap ne mujhe bulaya , aap par mere maan baap qurban hon. Maine Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) se barh kar mushfiq aur meharban ustaad kisi ko nahin dekha na aap se pehle aur na aap ke baad. Allah ki qasam ! Aap ne mujhe mara na daanta aur na hi bura bhala kaha balke sirf itna farmaya : yeh namaz hai is mein baaten karna jaiz nahin, is mein to tasbeeh takbeer aur tilawat Quran hoti hai... (b) Yeh hadees dusri sanad se bhi isi tarah hai magar is mein in alfaz ” inna kunna hadithal ahd bijahiliya faja a Allah alislam “ ki jagah yeh alfaz hain : ” qal ataitu annabi faqaltu : in rijalun mina...
٣٣٥١ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ،وَأَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ السُّوسِيُّ وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو قَالُوا:أنبأ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أنبأ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزْيَدٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ،عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ قَالَ:حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ،حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيُّ قَالَ:قُلْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنَّا كُنَّا حَدِيثَ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ فَجَاءَ اللهُ بِالْإِسْلَامِ،وَإِنَّ رِجَالًا مِنَّا يَتَطَيَّرُونَ قَالَ:" ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ يَجِدُونَهُ فِي صُدُورِهِمْ فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّهُمْ "قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ،وَرِجَالٌ مِنَّا يَأْتُونَ الْكَهَنَةَ قَالَ:" فَلَا يَأْتُوهُمْ "قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ،وَرِجَالٌ مِنَّا يَخُطُّونَ قَالَ:" كَانَ نَبِيٌّ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ يَخُطُّ فَمَنْ وَافَقَ خَطَّهُ فَذَاكَ "قَالَ: وَبَيَنَا أَنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ إِذْ عَطَسَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ فَقُلْتُ: يَرْحَمُكَ اللهُ فَحَدَّقَنِي الْقَوْمُ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: وَاثُكْلَ أُمِّيَاهُ مَا لَكُمْ تَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيَّ؟ فَضَرَبَ الْقَوْمُ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ عَلَى أَفْخَاذِهِمْ، فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُهُمْ يُسَكِّتُونِي لَكِنِّي سَكَتُّ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ ⦗٣٥٥⦘ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَعَانِي، فَبِأَبِي هُوَ وَأُمِّي مَا رَأَيْتُ مُعَلِّمًا قَبْلَهُ وَلَا بَعْدَهُ أَحْسَنَ تَعْلِيمًا مِنْهُ، وَاللهِ مَا ضَرَبَنِي وَلَا كَهَرَنِي وَلَا سَبَّنِي،فَقَالَ:" إِنَّ صَلَاتَنَا هَذِهِ لَا يَصْلُحُ فِيهَا شَيْءٌ مِنْ كَلَامِ النَّاسِ، وَإِنَّمَا هِيَ التَّسْبِيحُ وَالتَّكْبِيرُ وَتِلَاوَةُ الْقُرْآنِ "وَذَكَرَ بَاقِي الْحَدِيثِ وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو صَالِحِ بْنُ أَبِي طَاهِرٍ، ثنا جَدِّي يَحْيَى بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الْقَاضِي ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أنبأ عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى،فَذَكَرَهُ بِنَحْوِهِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ قَوْلَهُ:" إِنَّا كُنَّا حَدِيثَ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ فَجَاءَ اللهُ بِالْإِسْلَامِ "وَإِنَّمَا قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّ رِجَالًا مِنَّا رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
