بَابُ قَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلاَلَ فَصُومُوا وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا»

Sahih al-Bukhari 1908
Ibn Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘the month is like this and this,’ (at the same time he showed the fingers of both his hands thrice) and left out one thumb on the third time.
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر ؓ ہی سے روایت ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا: ’’مہینہ اس طرح اور اس طرح ہوتا ہے۔ تیسری مرتبہ آپ نے انگوٹھا دبا لیا، یعنی انتیس دن کا بھی ہوتا ہے۔‘‘
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) hi se riwayat hai ke Nabi Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Mahina is tarah aur is tarah hota hai. Teesri martaba aap ne angutha daba liya, yani unatees din ka bhi hota hai."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ جَبَلَةَ بْنِ سُحَيْمٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا ، وَخَنَسَ الْإِبْهَامَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ .
