Sahih al-Bukhari 1975
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As: Allah's Apostle said to me, O `Abdullah! Have I not been informed that you fast during the day and offer prayers all the night. `Abdullah replied, Yes, O Allah's Apostle! The Prophet said, Don't do that; fast for few days and then give it up for few days, offer prayers and also sleep at night, as your body has a right on you, and your wife has a right on you, and your guest has a right on you. And it is sufficient for you to fast three days in a month, as the reward of a good deed is multiplied ten times, so it will be like fasting throughout the year. I insisted (on fasting) and so I was given a hard instruction. I said, O Allah's Apostle! I have power. The Prophet said, Fast like the fasting of the Prophet David and do not fast more than that. I said, How was the fasting of the Prophet of Allah, David? He said, Half of the year, (i.e. he used to fast on every alternate day). Afterwards when `Abdullah became old, he used to say, It would have been better for me if I had accepted the permission of the Prophet (which he gave me i.e. to fast only three days a month).
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمرو بن عاص ؓ سے روایت ہے انھوں نے کہا کہ مجھے رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ’’عبداللہ! کیا مجھے یہ خبر نہیں پہنچی کہ آپ دن میں روزے سے ہوتے ہیں اور رات بھر نماز پڑھتے رہتے ہیں؟‘‘ میں نے عرض کیا: کیوں نہیں اللہ کے رسول ﷺ ! ایسا ہی ہے۔ آپ نے فرمایا: ’’ایسا مت کیا کرو، روزہ رکھو افطار بھی کرو، نماز پڑھو اور آرام بھی کروکیونکہ تم پر تمہارے جسم کا حق ہے۔ تم پر تمہاری آنکھوں کا حق ہے اور تم پر تمہاری بیوی کا حق ہے اور تم پر تمہارے مہمان کا بھی حق ہے۔ تجھے یہی کافی ہے کہ ہر مہینے میں تین روزے رکھے کیونکہ تیرے لیے ہر نیک عمل کا دس گنا اجروثواب ہے۔ اس طرح یہ پورے سال کے روزے ہیں۔‘‘ لیکن میں نے جسم پر سختی کی تو مجھ پر سختی کی گئی، میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول ﷺ ! میں اپنے اندر ا س سے زیادہ کی طاقت پاتا ہوں!آپ نے فرمایا: ’’اگر ایسا ہے تو اللہ کے نبی حضرت داود ؑ کا روزہ رکھو اور اس پر زیادتی نہ کرو۔‘‘ میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے نبی حضرت داود ؑ کے روزے کیسے تھے؟فرمایا: ’’نصف زندگی۔‘‘ یعنی ایک دن روزہ اور ایک دن افطار۔ بعد ازاں حضرت عبداللہ بن عمرو ؓ جب بوڑھے ہوگئے تو کہا کرتے تھے: کاش! میں نے نبی کریم ﷺ کی رخصت کوقبول کیا ہوتا(تو آج یہ حال نہ ہوتا)۔
Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai unhon ne kaha ke mujhe Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Abdullah! Kya mujhe ye khabar nahi pahunchi ke aap din mein rozay se hote hain aur raat bhar namaz parhte rehte hain?" Main ne arz kiya: Kyun nahi Allah ke Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)! Aisa hi hai. Aap ne farmaya: "Aisa mat kiya karo, roza rakho iftar bhi karo, namaz parho aur aaraam bhi karo kyunke tum par tumhare jism ka haq hai. Tum par tumhari aankhon ka haq hai aur tum par tumhari biwi ka haq hai aur tum par tumhare mehmaan ka bhi haq hai. Tujhe yahi kafi hai ke har mahine mein teen roze rakkhe kyunke tere liye har naik amal ka das guna ajr-o-sawab hai. Is tarah ye poore saal ke roze hain." Lekin main ne jism par sakhti ki to mujh par sakhti ki gayi, main ne arz kiya: Allah ke Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)! Main apne andar is se zyada ki taqat pata hoon! Aap ne farmaya: "Agar aisa hai to Allah ke Nabi Hazrat Dawood (Alaihis Salam) ka roza rakho aur is par ziyaadati na karo." Main ne arz kiya: Allah ke Nabi Hazrat Dawood (Alaihis Salam) ke roze kaise thay? Farmaya: "Nisf zindagi." Yani ek din roza aur ek din iftar. Baad azan Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (Radi Allahu Anhu) jab burhe ho gaye to kaha karte thay: Kaash! Main ne Nabi Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki rukhshat ko qabool kiya hota (to aaj ye haal na hota).
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُقَاتِلٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، أَلَمْ أُخْبَرْ أَنَّكَ تَصُومُ النَّهَارَ ، وَتَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : فَلَا تَفْعَلْ صُمْ وَأَفْطِرْ ، وَقُمْ وَنَمْ ، فَإِنَّ لِجَسَدِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا ، وَإِنَّ لِعَيْنِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا ، وَإِنَّ لِزَوْجِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا ، وَإِنَّ لِزَوْرِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا ، وَإِنَّ بِحَسْبِكَ أَنْ تَصُومَ كُلَّ شَهْرٍ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ ، فَإِنَّ لَكَ بِكُلِّ حَسَنَةٍ عَشْرَ أَمْثَالِهَا ، فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ صِيَامُ الدَّهْرِ كُلِّهِ ، فَشَدَّدْتُ ، فَشُدِّدَ عَلَيَّ ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي أَجِدُ قُوَّةً ، قَالَ : فَصُمْ صِيَامَ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام ، وَلَا تَزِدْ عَلَيْهِ ، قُلْتُ : وَمَا كَانَ صِيَامُ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام ؟ قَالَ : نِصْفَ الدَّهْرِ ، فَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ بَعْدَ مَا كَبِرَ : يَا لَيْتَنِي قَبِلْتُ رُخْصَةَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
