Chapter on sleeping in the mosque

باب النوم في المسجد

Sunan al-Darimi 1437

Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was sleeping in the mosque (of the Prophet) when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me and nudged me with his blessed foot, saying: "Don't I see you sleeping here?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah! I was overcome by sleep."

سیدنا ابوذر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: میں مسجد (نبوی) میں سویا ہوا تھا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ میرے پاس تشریف لائے اور اپنے پائے مبارک سے مجھے متنبہ کرتے ہوئے فرمایا: کیا میں تمہیں یہاں سوتے نہیں دیکھ رہا ہوں؟ میں نے عرض کیا: اے اللہ کے نبی! میری آنکھ لگ گئی تھی۔

Saina Abuzar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne kaha: mein masjid (Nabvi) mein soya hua tha keh Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) mere pass tashreef laye aur apne paye mubarak se mujhe mutanabbih karte hue farmaya: kya mein tumhen yahan sote nahin dekh raha hun? Maine arz kiya: aye Allah ke Nabi! meri aank lag gayi thi.

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَرْبِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ الدِّئلِيِّ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، قَالَ: أَتَانِي نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا نَائِمٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَضَرَبَنِي بِرِجْلِهِ، قَالَ: "أَلَا أَرَاكَ نَائِمًا فِيهِ؟"قُلْتُ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، غَلَبَتْنِي عَيْنِي.

Sunan al-Darimi 1438

Sayyiduna Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I used to sleep in the Prophet's Mosque because I had no wife or children. I saw in a dream as if I was taken to a well in which people were hanging. It was said: "Take them to the right side (meaning towards Paradise)." I mentioned this dream to (my sister) Sayyida Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) and requested her to narrate it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So she narrated it to you (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). You (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Who has seen this dream?" She said: "(My brother) Ibn 'Umar." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "How good is this young man!" or he said: "How good is this man! Would that he prayed at night." Sayyiduna Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When I would go to sleep, I would not wake up before Fajr." The narrator said: "After that, Sayyiduna Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) began to pray Tahajjud."

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا: میں مسجد نبوی میں سویا کرتا تھا کیونکہ بیوی بچے تھے نہیں، میں نے خواب میں دیکھا گویا کہ مجھے ایک کنویں کی طرف لے جایا گیا، جس میں آدمی لٹکے ہوئے تھے۔ کہا گیا: ان کو دائیں جانب لے جاؤ (یعنی جنتیوں کی طرف)، میں نے اس خواب کو (اپنی بہن) سیدہ حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے بیان کیا اور درخواست کی کہ اس کو رسول الله ﷺ سے بیان کریں، لہٰذا انہوں نے آپ ﷺ سے اس کو بیان کیا تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”کس نے یہ خواب دیکھا ہے؟“ عرض کیا: (میرے بھائی) ابن عمر نے، رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”کیا ہی اچھا وہ نوجوان ہے“ یا یہ کہا: ”کیا ہی اچھا آدمی ہے، کاش وہ رات میں نماز پڑھے“، سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا: میں جب سو جاتا تو فجر سے پہلےنہیں اٹھتا تھا۔ راوی نے کہا: اس کے بعد سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما تہجد پڑھنے لگے تھے۔

Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne kaha: mein Masjid Nabvi mein soya karta tha kyunki biwi bache thay nahin, mein ne khwab mein dekha goya keh mujhe ek kuwen ki taraf le jaya gaya, jis mein aadmi latke huye thay. Kaha gaya: in ko dayen janib le jao (yani jannatiyon ki taraf), mein ne is khwab ko (apni behen) Sayyida Hafsa ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) se bayan kiya aur darkhwast ki keh is ko Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se bayan karen, lihaza unhon ne aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se is ko bayan kiya to aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”kis ne ye khwab dekha hai?“ arz kiya: (mere bhai) Ibn Umar ne, Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”kya hi achcha woh jawan hai“ ya ye kaha: ”kya hi achcha aadmi hai, kash woh raat mein namaz parhe“, Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne kaha: mein jab so jata to fajar se pehle nahin uthta tha. Rawi ne kaha: is ke baad Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a tahajjud parhne lage thay.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق الْفَزَارِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَبِيتُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لِي أَهْلٌ، فَرَأَيْتُ فِي الْمَنَامِ كَأَنَّمَا انْطُلِقَ بِي إِلَى بِئْرٍ فِيهَا رِجَالٌ مُعَلَّقُونَ، فَقِيلَ: انْطَلِقُوا بِهِ إِلَى ذَاتِ الْيَمِينِ. فَذَكَرْتُ الرُّؤْيَا لِحَفْصَةَ، فَقُلْتُ: قُصِّيهَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَصَّتْهَا عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ:"مَنْ رَأَى هَذِهِ؟ قَالَتْ: ابْنُ عُمَرَ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:"نِعْمَ الْفَتَى أَوْ قَالَ: نِعْمَ الرَّجُلُ لَوْ كَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنْ اللَّيْلِ". قَالَ: وَكُنْتُ إِذَا نِمْتُ لَمْ أَقُمْ حَتَّى أُصْبِحَ. قَالَ: فَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يُصَلِّي اللَّيْلَ.
