Chapter: The Prophet (saws) will defer his supplication in order to intercede for his ummah

باب اخْتِبَاءِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم دَعْوَةَ الشَّفَاعَةِ لأُمَّتِهِ
Sahih Muslim 198a
Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported : The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: There is for every Apostle a (special) prayer with which he would pray. I wish I could reserve, my prayer for intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
حضرت ابو ہریرہ ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہر نبی کی ایک دعا ہے (جسے اللہ تعالیٰ یقینی طور پرقبول فرمائے گا) جسے وہ کرتا ہے، تو میں چاہتا ہوں کہ میں اپنی دعا کو قیامت کے دن اپنی امت کی شفاعت کے لیے محفوظ رکھوں۔“
Hazrat Abu Huraira (Radiallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Har Nabi ki ek dua hai (jise Allah Ta'ala yaqini tour par qabool farmaye ga) jise woh karta hai, to main chahta hoon ke main apni dua ko qiyamat ke din apni ummat ki shafa'at ke liye mehfooz rakkhoon."
Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported : The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: There is for every Apostle a prayer, and I intend (if Allah so willed) that I would reserve my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
حضرت ابو ہریرہ ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہر نبی کو ایک دعا کا حق حاصل ہے، اور میں نے ارادہ کیا ہے کہ ان شاء اللہ میں اپنی اس دعا کو قیامت کے روز اپنی امت کی شفاعت کے لیے محفوظ رکھوں گا۔“ (ان شاء اللہ کا لفظ محض تبرک اور اللہ تعالیٰ کے حکم کے امتثال کے لیے ہے)
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Radhiallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne farmaya: “Har nabi ko ek dua ka haq hasil hai, aur maine irada kiya hai ke in shaa Allah main apni is dua ko qayamat ke roz apni ummat ki shafa’at ke liye mahfuz rakhunga.” (In shaa Allah ka lafz mahaz tabarruk aur Allah Ta’ala ke hukm ke imtisal ke liye hai)
Amr bin Abu Sufyan transmitted a similar Hadith from Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) who narrated it from the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم).
امام صاحب مذکورہ بالا روایت ایک اور سند سے بیان کرتے ہیں۔
Imam Sahab mazkoora bala riwayat ek aur sanad se bayan karte hain.
Amr bin Abu Sufyan reported : Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said to Ka'b al-Ahbar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) had said: For every Apostle there is a (special) prayer by which he would pray. I, however, intend (if Allah so willed) that I would reserve my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection. Ka'b (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said to Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه): Did you hear this from the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)? Abu Huraira ( رضي الله تعالیعنہ) said: Yes.
حضرت ابو ہریرہ ؓ نے کعب احبار سے کہا، کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہر نبی کو ایک دعا کرنے کا حق حاصل ہے جسے وہ مانگتا ہے، تو میں چاہتا ہوں ان شاء اللہ میں اپنی دعا قیامت کے دن اپنی امت کی شفاعت کے لیے چھپا رکھوں۔“ تو حضرت کعب نے حضرت ابو ہریرہ ؓ سے پوچھا: آپ نے یہ فرمان (براہِ راست) رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا ہے؟ ابو ہریرہ ؓ نے جواب دیا: جی ہاں!
Hazrat Abu Huraira (Radiallahu Anhu) ne Ka'b Ahbar se kaha, ke Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Har Nabi ko ek dua karne ka haqq hasil hai jise woh mangta hai, to main chahta hoon In sha Allah main apni dua qiyamat ke din apni ummat ki shafa'at ke liye chupa rakkhoon." To Hazrat Ka'b ne Hazrat Abu Huraira (Radiallahu Anhu) se poocha: Aap ne yeh farman (barah-e-raast) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se suna hai? Abu Huraira (Radiallahu Anhu) ne jawab diya: Ji haan!
وَحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ بْنِ أَسِيدِ بْنِ جَارِيَةَ الثَّقَفِيَّ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ لِكَعْبِ الأَحْبَارِ إِنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ دَعْوَةٌ يَدْعُوهَا فَأَنَا أُرِيدُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ أَخْتَبِئَ دَعْوَتِي شَفَاعَةً لأُمَّتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " . فَقَالَ كَعْبٌ لأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ نَعَمْ .

Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported : The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: There is for every Apostle a prayer which is granted, but every prophet showed haste in his prayer. I have, however, reserved my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection, and it would be granted, if Allah so willed, in case of everyone among my Ummah provided he dies without associating anything with Allah.
حضرت ابو ہریرہ ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہر نبی کے لیے ایک مقبول دعا ہے اور میں نے اپنی دعا کو قیامت کے دن اپنی امت کی شفاعت کے لیے چھپا رکھا ہے، جب کہ ہر نبی جلدی کرتے ہوئے (دنیا میں) دعا کر چکا ہے۔ میری شفاعت ہر اس انسان کو حاصل ہو گی ان شاء اللہ! جو میری امت سے اس حال میں فوت ہو گا کہ اس نے اللہ تعالیٰ کے ساتھ کسی کو شریک نہیں ٹھہرایا ہوگا۔“
Hazrat Abu Huraira (Radiallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Har Nabi ke liye ek maqbool dua hai aur main ne apni dua ko qiyamat ke din apni ummat ki shafa'at ke liye chupa rakkha hai, jab ke har Nabi jaldi karte huye (dunya mein) dua kar chuka hai. Meri shafa'at har is insan ko hasil ho gi In sha Allah! jo meri ummat se is haal mein foute ho ga ke us ne Allah Ta'ala ke saath kisi ko shareek nahin thehraya hoga."
Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported : The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said : Every Apostle is endowed with a prayer which is granted and by which he would (pray to his Lord) and it would he granted for him. I have, however, reserved my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
حضرت ابو ہریرہ ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہر نبی کے لیے ایک مقبول دعا ہے جو وہ کرتا ہے، اور وہ اس کی خاطر قبول ہوتی ہے، اور وہ اسے دی جاتی ہے، اور میں نے اپنی دعا قیامت کے دن اپنی امت کی سفارش کے لیے چھپا رکھی ہے۔“
Hazrat Abu Huraira (Radiallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Har Nabi ke liye ek maqbool dua hai jo woh karta hai, aur woh is ki khatir qabool hoti hai, aur woh ise di jati hai, aur main ne apni dua qiyamat ke din apni ummat ki sifarish ke liye chupa rakkhi hai."
Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported : The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said : There was for every Apostle a prayer with which he prayed for his Ummah and it was granted to him; but I wish, if Allah so wills, to defer my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
حضرت ابو ہریرہ ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہر نبی کے لیے ایک دعا ہے، جو اس نے اپنی امت کے بارے میں مانگ لی ہے، اور وہ اس کے حق میں قبول ہو چکی ہے، اور میں چاہتا ہوں کہ ان شاء اللہ میں اپنی دعا کو قیامت کے دن اپنی امت کی سفارش کے لیے مؤخر کر دوں۔“
Hazrat Abu Huraira (Radiallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Har Nabi ke liye ek dua hai, jo us ne apni ummat ke baare mein maang li hai, aur woh is ke haqq mein qabool ho chuki hai, aur main chahta hoon ke In sha Allah main apni dua ko qiyamat ke din apni ummat ki sifarish ke liye muakhar kar doon."
Anas bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported : The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: There is for every apostle a prayer with which he prays (to Allah) for his Ummah. I have reserved my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
حضرت انس بن مالک ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہر نبی کے لیے ایک دعا ہے، جو اس نے اپنی امت کے لیے کی ہے، اور میں نے اپنی دعا قیامت کے روز اپنی امت کی شفاعت کے لیے چھپا رکھی ہے۔“
Hazrat Anas bin Malik (Radiallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Har Nabi ke liye ek dua hai, jo us ne apni ummat ke liye ki hai, aur main ne apni dua qiyamat ke roz apni ummat ki shafa'at ke liye chupa rakkhi hai."
Mis'ar transmitted it with the same chain of narrators from Qatada except that in the Hadith narrated by Waki' (the Prophet ﷺ) said : "He was endowed," and in the Hadith reported by Abu Usama (the words are):" It is reported from the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)."
امام صاحب مذکورہ روایت ایک اور سند سے بیان کرتے ہیں۔
Imam Sahab mazkoora riwayat ek aur sanad se bayan karte hain.
Muhammad bin Abd al-A'la reported it to me : Mu'tamir narrated to us on the authority of his father who transmitted it from Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that verity the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, and then narrated the Hadith like the one transmitted by Qatada on the authority of Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه).
امام صاحب نے ایک اور استاد کی سند سے قتادہ کی حضرت انس ؓسے روایت جیسی روایت بیان کی ہے۔
Imam Sahab ne ek aur ustad ki sanad se Qatada ki Hazrat Anas (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat jaisi riwayat bayan ki hai.
وَحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ .

Abu Zubair heard Jabir bin Abdullah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reporting it from the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) : For every Apostle was a prayer with which he prayed (to his Lord) for his Ummah, but I have reserved my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
حضرت جابر ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہر نبی کے لیے ایک دعا ہے، جو وہ اپنی امت کے بارے میں کر چکا ہے، اور میں نے اپنی دعا قیامت کے دن اپنی امت کی شفاعت کے لیے چھپا رکھی ہے۔“
Hazrat Jabir (Radiallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Har Nabi ke liye ek dua hai, jo woh apni ummat ke baare mein kar chuka hai, aur main ne apni dua qiyamat ke din apni ummat ki shafa'at ke liye chupa rakkhi hai."
