Chapter: It is recommended to lick one's fingers and wipe the bowl, and to eat a piece of food that is dropped after removing any dirt on it. It is disliked to wipe one's hand before licking it, because of the possibility that the blessing of the food may
Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him.) as saying:When any one of you eats food he should not wipe his hand until he has licked it or has it licked*.
حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جو تم میں سے کوئی ایک کھانا کھائے تو وہ اپنا ہاتھ (انگلیاں) چاٹے یا چٹائے بغیر اپنا ہاتھ صاف نہ کرے۔“
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhuma) bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Jo tum mein se koi ek khana khaye toh woh apna haath (ungliyan) chaate ya chataye baghair apna haath saaf na kare.”
Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:When any one of you eats food he should not wipe his hand until he has licked it or have it licked.
امام صاحب مختلف سندوں سے بیان کرتے ہیں، حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے بتایا، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم میں سے کوئی کھانا کھائے تو اس وقت تک اپنا ہاتھ صاف نہ کرے، جب تک اسے چاٹ نہ لے یا چٹوا نہ لے۔“
Imam sahib mukhtalif sanadon se bayan karte hain, Hazrat Ibn Abbas (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhuma) ne bataya, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Jab tum mein se koi khana khaye toh us waqt tak apna haath saaf na kare, jab tak ise chaat na le ya chatwa na le.”
Ibn Ka'b bin Malik (رضئ ِهللا تعالی عنہ) reported on the authority of his father that he saw Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) licking his three fingers (after having finished the food). Ibn Hatim made no mention of ‘three’. This Hadith is also narrated through another chain of transmitters.
حضرت کعب بن مالک رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کہتے ہیں میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو کھانا کھانے کی بنا پر انہیں اپنی تین انگلیاں چاٹتے دیکھا۔ ابن حاتم نے تین کا لفظ استعمال نہیں کیا اور ابن ابی شیبہ نے اپنی روایت میں ابن کعب کی جگہ عبدالرحمٰن بن کعب کہا۔
Hazrat Ka'b bin Malik (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) kehte hain mein ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko khana khane ki bina par unhein apni teen ungliyan chaatte dekha. Ibn Hatim ne teen ka lafz istemal nahi kiya aur Ibn Abi Shaiba ne apni riwayat mein Ibn Ka'b ki jagah Abdur Rahman bin Ka'b kaha.
Ibn Ka'b bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported on the authority of his father that the Apostle of Allah (صلى ِهللا عليه و آله وسلم) used to eat (food) with three fingers, and he licked his hand before wiping it (with towel).
امام صاحب اپنے ایک اور استاد سے یہی روایت بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ابن کعب اپنے باپ کعب بن مالک رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنی تین انگلیوں سے کھاتے تھے اور اپنے ہاتھ کو صاف کرنے سے پہلے چاٹ لیتے تھے۔
Imam sahib apne ek aur ustad se yahi riwayat bayan karte hain ke Ibn Ka'b apne baap Ka'b bin Malik (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) apni teen ungliyon se khate thay aur apne haath ko saaf karne se pehle chaat lete thay.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَأْكُلُ بِثَلاَثِ أَصَابِعَ وَيَلْعَقُ يَدَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمْسَحَهَا .
Sahih Muslim 2032c
Abdullah bin Ka'b (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported that his father Ka'b (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated to him that Allah's Apostle (صلى ِهللا عليه و ِآله وسلم) used to eat with three fingers and when he had finished (eating), he licked them.
حضرت عبدالرحمٰن بن کعب یا عبداللہ بن کعب اپنے باپ سے بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنی تین انگلیوں سے کھاتے تھے اور جب فارغ ہوتے تو ان کو چاٹ لیتے۔
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Ka'b ya Abdullah bin Ka'b apne baap se bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) apni teen ungliyon se khate thay aur jab farigh hote toh un ko chaat lete.
A Hadith like this has been reported on the authority of Ka'b bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) through another chain of transmitters.
اس جیسی ایک حدیث کعب بن مالک رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ سے دوسری سند کے ساتھ روایت کی گئی ہے۔
Is jaisi ek hadees Ka'b bin Malik (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se doosri sanad ke saath riwayat ki gayi hai.
وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّحَدَّثَاهُ - أَوْ، أَحَدُهُمَا - عَنْ أَبِيهِ، كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِمِثْلِهِ .
Sahih Muslim 2033a
Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported that Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه ِو آله وسلم) commanded the licking of fingers and the dish, saying, You do not know in what portion the blessing lies.’
حضرت جابر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے انگلیوں اور پلیٹ کو چاٹنے کا حکم دیا اور فرمایا: ”تم نہیں جانتے اس کے کس حصہ میں برکت ہے۔“
Hazrat Jabir (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne ungliyon aur plate ko chaatne ka hukm diya aur farmaya: “Tum nahi jaante is ke kis hissa mein barkat hai.”
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَمَرَ بِلَعْقِ الأَصَابِعِ وَالصَّحْفَةِ وَقَالَ " إِنَّكُمْ لاَ تَدْرُونَ فِي أَيِّهِ الْبَرَكَةُ " .
Sahih Muslim 2033b
Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, when any one of you drops a mouthful, he should pick it up and remove any of the filth on it, and then eat it, and should not leave it for the Satan, and should not wipe his hand with towel until he has licked his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of the food the blessing lies.
حضرت جابر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم میں سے کسی کا لقمہ گر جائے تو وہ اس کو اٹھائے اور اس کو لگنے والی تکلیف دہ چیز (مٹی، ریت اور تنکے وغیرہ) دور کر کے اس کو کھالے اور جب تک اپنی چاٹ نہ لے، اپنا ہاتھ رومال سے صاف نہ کرے، کیونکہ اسے معلوم نہیں ہے، اس کے کھانے کے کس حصہ میں خیر و برکت ہے۔“
Hazrat Jabir (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Jab tum mein se kisi ka luqma gir jaye toh woh us ko uthaye aur us ko lagne wali takleef deh cheez (mitti, rait aur tinke waghera) door kar ke us ko kha-le aur jab tak apni chaat na le, apna haath romal se saaf na kare, kyunke ise maloom nahi hai, is ke khane ke kis hissa mein khair o barkat hai.”
This Hadith has been narrated on the authority of Sufyan with the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording.
یہی روایت اپنے دو اور اساتذہ سے بھی بیان کرتے ہیں، ان کی حدیث میں بھی ہے ”وہ اپنا ہاتھ تولیے سے صاف نہ کرے حتیٰ کہ اسے چاٹ لے یا چٹوائے“ اور اس کے بعد والا حصہ۔
Yahi riwayat apne do aur asatizah se bhi bayan karte hain, un ki hadees mein bhi hai “woh apna haath toliye se saaf na kare hatta ke ise chaat le ya chatwaye” aur is ke baad wala hissa.
Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported, I heard Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, the Satan is present with any one of you in everything he does; he is present even when he eats food; so if any one of you drops a mouthful he should remove away anything filthy on it and eat it and not leave for the devil; and when he finishes (food) he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of his food the blessing lies.
حضرت جابر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا: ”شیطان تمہارے ہر معاملہ کے وقت آجاتا ہے، حتی کہ وہ تمہارے کھانے کے وقت بھی آ جاتا ہے، اس لیے جب تم میں سے کسی سے کوئی لقمہ گر جائے تو وہ اس سے اذیت کا باعث چیز زائل کرکے اس کو کھالے، اس کو شیطان کے لیے نہ پڑا رہنے دے اور جب فارغ ہو جائے تو اپنی انگلیاں چاٹ لے، کیونکہ اسے علم نہیں ہے اس کے کس کھانے میں برکت ہے۔“
Hazrat Jabir (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) bayan karte hain, mein ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko farmate suna: “Shaitan tumhare har muamla ke waqt aa-jata hai, hatta ke woh tumhare khane ke waqt bhi aa jata hai, is liye jab tum mein se kisi se koi luqma gir jaye toh woh us se aziyat ka ba'is cheez zail karke us ko kha-le, us ko shaitan ke liye na para rehne de aur jab farigh ho jaye toh apni ungliyan chaat le, kyunke ise ilm nahi hai is ke kis khane mein barkat hai.”
This Hadith is reported on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of words, but no mention is made of the first part of the Hadith, ie, the Satan is present with any one of you.
امام صاحب اپنے دو اساتذہ سے یہی روایت بیان کرتے ہیں، لیکن اس میں ”اذا سقطت لقمة احدكم“
Imam sahib apne do asatizah se yahi riwayat bayan karte hain, lekin is mein “idha saqatat luqmatu ahadikum” (ka zikr hai).
Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported from Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) about mentioning the licking (of fingers) and the (falling of) the mouthful.
امام صاحب اپنے ایک اور استاد سے بیان کرتے ہیں، وہ ابوصالح اور ابوسفیان دونوں سے چاٹنے کا ذکر کرتے ہیں اور ابوسفیان سے لقمہ والا حصہ بیان کرتے ہیں، جیسا کہ اوپر والے دونوں استاد بیان کرتے ہیں۔
Imam sahib apne ek aur ustad se bayan karte hain, woh Abu Salih aur Abu Sufyan donon se chaatne ka zikr karte hain aur Abu Sufyan se luqma wala hissa bayan karte hain, jaisa ke upar wale donon ustad bayan karte hain.
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي، صَالِحٍ وَأَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي ذِكْرِ اللَّعْقِ . وَعَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَذَكَرَ اللُّقْمَةَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِهِمَا .
Sahih Muslim 2034
Anas (ِرضي الله تعالى عنه) reported that when Allah's Apostle (صلى ِهللا عليه و آله وسلم) ate food he licked his three fingers, and he said, when any one of you drops a mouthful, he should remove anything filthy from it and then eat it and should not leave it for the Satan. He also commanded us that we should wipe the dish saying, you do not know in what portion of your food the blessing lies.
حضرت انس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم جب کھانا تناول فرماتے تو اپنی تین انگلیوں کو چاٹ لیتے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم میں سے کسی کا لقمہ گر جائے تو وہ اس سے اذیت دہ چیز زائل کر دے اور اس کو کھا لے اور شیطان کے لیے اسے نہ چھوڑے“ اور آپ ہمیں پیالہ صاف کرنے کا حکم دیا، فرمایا: ”کیونکہ تمہیں معلوم نہیں ہے کہ تمہارے کس کھانے میں برکت اور فیض بخشی ہے۔“
Hazrat Anas (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) jab khana tanawul farmate toh apni teen ungliyon ko chaat lete aur aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Jab tum mein se kisi ka luqma gir jaye toh woh us se aziyat deh cheez zail kar de aur us ko kha le aur shaitan ke liye ise na chore” aur aap humein piyala saaf karne ka hukm diya, farmaya: “Kyunke tumhein maloom nahi hai ke tumhare kis khane mein barkat aur faiz bakhshi hai.”
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, when any one of you eats food he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in what part of the food sticking to his fingers the blessing lies.
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم میں سے کوئی ایک کھائے تو اپنی انگلیاں چاٹ لے، کیونکہ اسے معلوم نہیں ہے، کس حصہ میں برکت ہے۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se riwayat hai, Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Jab tum mein se koi ek khaye toh apni ungliyan chaat le, kyunke ise maloom nahi hai, kis hissa mein barkat hai.”
وَحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سُهَيْلٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَلْعَقْ أَصَابِعَهُ فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَدْرِي فِي أَيَّتِهِنَّ الْبَرَكَةُ " .
Sahih Muslim 2035b
This Hadith has been reported on the authority of Hammad with the same chain of transmitters, but with a slight variation of wording.
امام صاحب یہی روایت ایک اور استاد سے بیان کرتے ہیں، اتنا فرق ہے کہ اس میں ہے، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”تم میں سے ایک اپنی پلیٹ تھالی صاف کر لے۔" اور فرمایا: "تمہارے کس کھانے میں برکت ہے۔“
Imam sahib yahi riwayat ek aur ustad se bayan karte hain, itna farq hai ke is mein hai, aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Tum mein se ek apni plate thali saaf kar le.” aur farmaya: “Tumhare kis khane mein barkat hai.”
