Sahl bin Sa'd al-Sa'idi (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) went to the tribe of Bani Amr bin Auf in order to bring reconciliation among (its members), and it was the time of prayer. The Mu'adhdhin came to Abu Bakr ( رضئ هللاتعالی عنہ) and said: Would you lead the prayer in case I recite takbir? He (Abu Bakr رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said: Yes. He (the narrator) said: He (Abu Bakr رضي الله تعالى عنه) started (leading) the prayer. The people were engaged in observing prayer when the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) happened to come there and made his way (through the people) till he stood in a row. The people began to clap (their hands), but Abu Bakr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) paid no heed (to it) in prayer. When the people clapped more vigorously, he (Abu Bakr رضي الله تعالى عنه) then paid heed and saw the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) there. (He was about to withdraw when) the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) gestured to him to keep standing at his place. Abu Bakr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) lifted his hands and praised Allah for what the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) had commanded him and then Abu Bakr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) withdrew himself till he stood in the midst of the row and the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) stepped forward and led the prayer. When (the prayer) was over, he (the Prophet ) said: O' Abu Bakr ( رضي الله تعالى عنه), what prevented you from standing (at that place) as I ordered you to do? Abu Bakr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said: It does not become the son of Abu Quhafa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) to lead prayer before the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said (to the people) around him: What is it that I saw you clapping so vigorously? (Behold) when anything happens in prayer, say: Subha Allah, for when you would utter it, it would attract the attention, while clapping of hands is meant for women.
حضرت سہل بن ساعدی رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم بنو عمرو بن عوف کے ہاں ان کے درمیان صلح کروانے کے لیے تشریف لے گئے تو نماز کا وقت ہو گیا، اس پر مؤذن ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ کے پاس آیا اور کہا کیا آپ جماعت کروائیں گے تو میں تکبیر کہوں؟ ابوبکر نے کہا، ہاں، چنانچہ ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ نے نماز شروع کر دی اتنے میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تشریف لے آئے اور لوگ نماز پڑھ رہے تھے، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم صفوں سے گزر کر پہلی صف میں پہنچے، اس پر لوگوں نے ایک ہاتھ دوسرے پر مارنا شروع کیا اور ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ اپنی نماز میں کسی طرف توجہ نہیں دیتے تھے۔ جب لوگوں نے مسلسل تالی بجائی تو وہ متوجہ ہوئے اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو دیکھا، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے انہیں اشارہ سے اپنی جگہ کھڑا رہنے کے لیے کہا، اس پر ابو بکر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ نے اپنے دونوں ہاتھ اٹھا کر اس بات پر اللہ کا شکر ادا کیا، کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان کو امامت کا اعزاز بخشا، پھر پیچھے ہٹ کر صف میں سیدھے کھڑے ہو گئے اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے آگے بڑھ کر نماز پڑھائی، جب آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نماز سے فارغ ہوئے تو فرمایا: ”اے ابوبکر! میرے حکم دینے کے بعد اپنی جگہ ٹکے رہنے سے کس چیز نے روک دیا، تمہیں؟“ ابو بکر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ نے جواب دیا، ابوقحافہ کے بیٹے کے لیے زیبا نہ تھا کہ وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے سامنے (موجودگی میں) جماعت کرائے۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے صحابہ کرام ؓ کی طرف متوجہ ہو کر فرمایا: ”عجیب بات ہے میں نے دیکھا کہ تم لوگ بکثرت تالیاں بجا رہے تھے، (یاد رکھو) جب نماز میں کوئی بات پیش آ جائے تو سُبحَانَ اللہ کہے گا تو اس طرف توجہ کی جائے گی، اور ہاتھ پر ہاتھ مارنا تو عورتوں کے لیے ہے۔“

Abu Bakr ne kaha, haan, chunanche Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta'ala Anhu) ne namaz shuru kar di itne mein Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) tashreef le aaye aur log namaz parh rahe thay, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) safon se guzar kar pehli saff mein pahuche, is par logon ne ek hath doosre par maarna shuru kiya aur Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta'ala Anhu) apni namaz mein kisi taraf tawajjo nahi dete thay. Jab logon ne musalsal taali bajayi toh woh mutawajja hue aur Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko dekha, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne unhein ishaara se apni jagah khada rehne ke liye kaha, is par Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta'ala Anhu) ne apne donon hath utha kar is baat par Allah ka shukr ada kiya, ke Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne un ko imamat ka aizzaz bakhsha, phir peeche hat kar saff mein seedhe khade ho gaye aur Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne aage barh kar namaz parhayi, jab Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) namaz se farigh hue toh farmaya: "Ae Abu Bakr! mere hukum dene ke baad apni jagah tike rehne se kis cheez ne rok diya, tumhein?" Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta'ala Anhu) ne jawab diya, Abu Quhafa ke bete ke liye zeba na tha ke woh Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke samne (maujoodgi mein) jamaat karaye. Phir Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne Sahaba-e-Kiram (Radiallahu Ta'ala Anhum) ki taraf mutawajja ho kar farmaya: "Ajeeb baat hai main ne dekha ke tum log bakasrat taaliyan baja rahe thay, (yaad rakho) jab namaz mein koi baat pesh aa jaye toh 'Subhan-Allah' kahe ga toh us taraf tawajjo ki jaye gi, aur hath par hath maarna toh aurton ke liye hai."
حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ذَهَبَ إِلَى بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ لِيُصْلِحَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَحَانَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَجَاءَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ أَتُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ فَأُقِيمُ قَالَ نَعَمْ . قَالَ فَصَلَّى أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَالنَّاسُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَتَخَلَّصَ حَتَّى وَقَفَ فِي الصَّفِّ فَصَفَّقَ النَّاسُ - وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لاَ يَلْتَفِتُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ - فَلَمَّا أَكْثَرَ النَّاسُ التَّصْفِيقَ الْتَفَتَ فَرَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنِ امْكُثْ مَكَانَكَ فَرَفَعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَدَيْهِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَى مَا أَمَرَهُ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنْ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ اسْتَأْخَرَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ حَتَّى اسْتَوَى فِي الصَّفِّ وَتَقَدَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَقَالَ " يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَثْبُتَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ " . قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مَا كَانَ لاِبْنِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بَيْنَ يَدَىْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " مَا لِي رَأَيْتُكُمْ أَكْثَرْتُمُ التَّصْفِيقَ مَنْ نَابَهُ شَىْءٌ فِي صَلاَتِهِ فَلْيُسَبِّحْ فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا سَبَّحَ الْتُفِتَ إِلَيْهِ وَإِنَّمَا التَّصْفِيحُ لِلنِّسَاءِ " .
