Chapter: The saying of the Prophet (saws): "Allah does not sleep" and "His veil is light, and if he were to remove it, the splendour of his face would burn all of his creation, as far as hs sght reaches".

باب فِي قَوْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ: «إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَنَامُ». وَفِي قَوْلِهِ: «حِجَابُهُ النُّورُ لَوْ كَشَفَهُ لأَحْرَقَ سُبُحَاتُ وَجْهِهِ مَا انْتَهَى إِلَيْهِ بَصَرُهُ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ»

Sahih Muslim 179a
Abu Musa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported : The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was standing among us and he told us five things. He said : Verily Allah (جَلَّ ذُو) does not sleep, and it does not befit Him to sleep. He lowers the scale and lifts it. The deeds in the night are taken up to Him before the deeds of the day, and the deeds of the day before the deeds of the night. His veil is the light. In the Hadith narrated by Abu Bakr (instead of the word "light" ) it is fire. If He takes it out, the splendor of His countenance would consume His creation so far as His sight reaches.
حضرت ابو موسیٰ ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک مجلس میں کھڑے ہو کر ہمیں پانچ باتیں بتائیں، فرمایا: ”(1) اللہ تعالیٰ سوتا نہیں ہے اور نہ ہی سونا اس کے شایانِ شان ہے۔ (2) میزان کے پلڑوں کو جھکاتا اور اٹھاتا ہے۔ (3) اس کی طرف رات کے اعمال دن کے اعمال سے پہلے اور دن کے اعمال (بعد والی رات) سے پہلے اٹھائے جاتے ہیں۔ (4) اس کا پردہ نور ہے۔ ابو بکرؒ کی روایت میں نور کی جگہ نار (آگ) ہے۔ (5) اگر وہ اس پردے کو کھول دے تو اس کے چہرے کی شعاعیں جہاں تک اس کی نگاہ پہنچے اس کی مخلوق کو جلا دیں۔“
Hazrat Abu Musa (Radiallahu Anhu) bayan karte hain ke Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne ek majlis mein khade ho kar humein paanch baatein batayein, farmaya: "(1) Allah Ta'ala sota nahin hai aur na hi sona is ke shayan-e-shan hai. (2) Mizan ke paldon ko jhukata aur uthata hai. (3) Is ki taraf raat ke aamaal din ke aamaal se pehle aur din ke aamaal (baad wali raat) se pehle uthaye jate hain. (4) Is ka parda noor hai. Abu Bakr ki riwayat mein noor ki jagah naar (aag) hai. (5) Agar woh is parde ko khool de to is ke chehre ki shuaein jahan tak is ki nigah pahunche is ki makhluq ko jala dein."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، قَالَ قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِخَمْسِ كَلِمَاتٍ فَقَالَ " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لاَ يَنَامُ وَلاَ يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يَنَامَ يَخْفِضُ الْقِسْطَ وَيَرْفَعُهُ يُرْفَعُ إِلَيْهِ عَمَلُ اللَّيْلِ قَبْلَ عَمَلِ النَّهَارِ وَعَمَلُ النَّهَارِ قَبْلَ عَمَلِ اللَّيْلِ حِجَابُهُ النُّورُ - وَفِي رِوَايَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ النَّارُ - لَوْ كَشَفَهُ لأَحْرَقَتْ سُبُحَاتُ وَجْهِهِ مَا انْتَهَى إِلَيْهِ بَصَرُهُ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ " . - وَفِي رِوَايَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ حَدَّثَنَا .
