Mu'awiyah bin Al-Hakam As-Sulami narrated, ‘I said, ‘O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), we were recently in a state of ignorance, then Allah (جَلَّ ذُو) brought Islam. Some men among us follow omens’. He said, ‘That is something that they find in their own hearts, it should not deter them from going ahead’. I said, ‘And some men among us go to fortune tellers.’ He said, ‘Do not go to them’. He said, ‘Some men among us draw lines’. He said, ‘One of the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to draw lines. So, whoever is in accord with his drawing of lines, then so it is’.
He said, ‘While I was praying with the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), a man sneezed and I said, ‘Yarhamuk-Allah (May Allah have mercy on you). The people glared at me and I said, ‘May my mother be bereft of me, why are you looking at me?’ The people struck their hands against their thighs, and when I saw that they were telling me to be quiet, I fell silent. When the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) finished, he called me. May my father and mother be ransomed for him, he neither did hit me nor rebuke me nor revile me. I have never seen a better teacher than him, before or after. He said, ‘this prayer of ours is not the place for ordinary human speech, rather it is glorification and magnification of Allah (جَلَّ ذُو), and reciting Quran’.
Then I went out to a flock of sheep of mine that was tended by a slave woman of mine beside Uhud and Al-Jawwaniyyah, and I found that the wolf had taken one of the sheep. I am a man from the sons of Adam ( عليهالسالم) and I get upset as they get upset. So, I slapped her. Then I came to the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and told him what happened. He regarded that as a serious action on my part. I said, ‘O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), should I set her free?’ He said, ‘Call her’. The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said to her, ‘Where is Allah (جَلَّ ذُو), the Mighty and Sublime?’ She said, ‘Above the heavens’. He said, ‘And who am I?’' She said, ‘The Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)’. He said, ‘'She is a believer, set her free’.
معاویہ بن الحکم السلمی نے روایت کیا، 'میں نے کہا، 'اے اللہ کے رسول (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)، ہم حال ہی میں جہالت کی حالت میں تھے، پھر اللہ (جَلَّ ذُو) نے اسلام لایا۔ ہم میں سے کچھ لوگ شگون لیتے ہیں'۔ آپ نے فرمایا، 'یہ ایسی چیز ہے جو ان کے اپنے دلوں میں ہوتی ہے، یہ انہیں آگے بڑھنے سے نہ روکے'۔ میں نے کہا، 'اور ہم میں سے کچھ لوگ قسمت بتانے والوں کے پاس جاتے ہیں'۔ آپ نے فرمایا، 'ان کے پاس نہ جاؤ'۔ انہوں نے کہا، 'ہم میں سے کچھ لوگ لکیریں کھینچتے ہیں'۔ آپ نے فرمایا، 'نبی (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) میں سے ایک لکیریں کھینچتا تھا۔ لہذا، جو اس کی لکیروں کے ساتھ مطابقت رکھتا ہے، تو یہ اسی طرح ہے'۔
انہوں نے کہا، 'جب میں اللہ کے رسول (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) کے ساتھ نماز پڑھ رہا تھا، ایک شخص نے چھینک ماری اور میں نے کہا، 'یرحمک اللہ (اللہ آپ پر رحم کرے)۔ لوگوں نے مجھے گھورا اور میں نے کہا، 'میری ماں مجھ سے محروم ہو، آپ مجھے کیوں دیکھ رہے ہیں؟' لوگوں نے اپنے ہاتھ اپنی رانوں پر مارے، اور جب میں نے دیکھا کہ وہ مجھے خاموش رہنے کا اشارہ کر رہے ہیں، تو میں خاموش ہو گیا۔ جب اللہ کے رسول (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) نے نماز مکمل کی، تو انہوں نے مجھے بلایا۔ میرے والد اور والدہ ان پر قربان ہوں، نہ انہوں نے مجھے مارا، نہ ڈانٹا، نہ برا بھلا کہا۔ میں نے ان سے پہلے یا بعد میں اس سے بہتر استاد کبھی نہیں دیکھا۔ آپ نے فرمایا، 'یہ ہماری نماز عام انسانی گفتگو کی جگہ نہیں ہے، بلکہ یہ اللہ (جَلَّ ذُو) کی تسبیح اور تکبیر اور قرآن کی تلاوت ہے'۔
پھر میں اپنے بھیڑ بکریوں کے ریوڑ کے پاس گیا جو احد اور الجوانیہ کے قریب میری ایک لونڈی چرواہی کر رہی تھی، اور میں نے دیکھا کہ بھیڑیا ایک بھیڑ لے گیا تھا۔ میں آدم (عليه السالم) کی اولاد میں سے ہوں اور میں ناراض ہو جاتا ہوں جیسے وہ ناراض ہوتے ہیں۔ تو میں نے اسے تھپڑ مار دیا۔ پھر میں اللہ کے رسول (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) کے پاس آیا اور انہیں بتایا کہ کیا ہوا۔ انہوں نے اسے میری طرف سے سنگین عمل سمجھا۔ میں نے کہا، 'اے اللہ کے رسول (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)، کیا میں اسے آزاد کر دوں؟' انہوں نے فرمایا، 'اسے بلاؤ'۔ اللہ کے رسول (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) نے اس سے پوچھا، 'اللہ (جَلَّ ذُو) کہاں ہے، جو عظیم اور بلند ہے؟' اس نے کہا، 'آسمانوں کے اوپر'۔ انہوں نے کہا، 'اور میں کون ہوں؟' اس نے کہا، 'اللہ کے رسول (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)'۔ انہوں نے کہا، 'یہ مومن ہے، اسے آزاد کر دو'۔
Muawiyah bin al-Hakam al-Salami ne riwayat kiya, 'Main ne kaha, 'Aye Allah ke Rasool (sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wasallam), hum hal hi mein jahalat ki halat mein the, phir Allah (jalla dhu) ne Islam laaya. Aap ne farmaya, 'Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wasallam) mein se ek lakirein khenchta tha. Lhaza, jo us ki lakiron ke sath mutbaqat rakhta hai, to yeh usi tarah hai'.
Inhon ne kaha, 'Jab main Allah ke Rasool (sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wasallam) ke sath namaz padh raha tha, ek shakhs ne chhink mari aur main ne kaha, 'Yarahumukallaah (Allah aap par rahm kare). Logon ne mujhe ghoora aur main ne kaha, 'Meri maan mujh se mahrum ho, aap mujhe kyon dekh rahe hain?' Logon ne apne haath apni raanon per mare, aur jab main ne dekha ke woh mujhe khamosh rahne ka ishara kar rahe hain, to main khamosh ho gaya. Jab Allah ke Rasool (sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wasallam) ne namaz kamal ki, to unhon ne mujhe bulaya. Mere wald aur waldah un per qurban hon, nah unhon ne mujhe mara, nah daanta, nah bura bhala kaha. Main ne un se pehle ya baad mein is se behtar ustad kabhi nahi dekha. Aap ne farmaya, 'Yeh hamari namaz aam insani guftgu ki jagah nahi hai, balkeh yeh Allah (jalla dhu) ki tasbeeh aur takbir aur Quran ki tilawat hai'.
phir main apne bhedd bakrion ke riwdd ke pass gaya jo uhud aur al-jawaniyah ke qareeb meri ek laundi churahi kar rahi thi, aur main ne dekha ke bhediya ek bhed le gaya tha. Main adam (alaihis salam) ki aulad mein se hun aur main naraz ho jata hun jaise woh naraz hote hain. To main ne use thapdd mar diya. Phir main Allah ke Rasool (sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wasallam) ke pass aaya aur unhein bataya ke kya hua. Unhon ne use meri taraf se sangin amal samjha. Main ne kaha, 'Aye Allah ke Rasool (sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wasallam), kya main use azad kar dun?' Unhon ne farmaya, 'Use bulaao'. Allah ke Rasool (sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wasallam) ne us se poocha, 'Allah (jalla dhu) kahan hai, jo azim aur buland hai?' Us ne kaha, 'Aasmaanon ke oper'. Unhon ne kaha, 'Aur main kaun hun?' Us ne kaha, 'Allah ke Rasool (sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wasallam)'. Unhon ne kaha, 'Yeh moomin hai, use azad kar do'.
