Chapter: Women Who Have Tattoos Done, and Mention of the Differences Reported from 'Abdullah bin Murrah And Ash-Sha'bi About This

باب الْمُوتَشِمَاتِ وَذِكْرِ الاِخْتِلاَفِ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ وَالشَّعْبِيِّ فِي هَذَا ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5102

Abdullah bin Murrah narrated from Al-Harith (رضي الله تعالى عنه), from Abdullah ( رضي الله تعالى عنه), who said, ‘the one who consumes Riba, the one who pays it, and the one who writes it down, if they know that it is Riba, the woman who does tattoos and the woman who has that done for the purpose of beautification, the one who withholds Sadaqah (Zakah), and the one who reverts to the life of a Bedouin after having emigrated, they will (all) be cursed upon the tongue of Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) on the Day of Resurrection.’

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں سود کھانے والا، کھلانے والا، اور اس کا لکھنے والا ۱؎ جب کہ وہ اسے جانتا ہو ( کہ یہ حرام ہے ) اور خوبصورتی کے لیے گودنے اور گودوانے والی عورتیں، صدقے کو روکنے والا اور ہجرت کے بعد لوٹ کر اعرابی ( دیہاتی ) ہو جانے والا ۲؎ یہ سب قیامت کے دن رسول اللہ ﷺ کے فرمان کے مطابق ملعون ہیں۔

Abdul-Allah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain Sud khane wala, khilane wala, aur us ka likhne wala 1؎ jab ke woh usay jaanta ho ( ke yeh haram hai ) aur khubsurati ke liye godne aur godwane wali auratien, sadqe ko rokne wala aur hijrat ke baad loot kar Arabi ( dehati ) ho jaane wala 2؎ yeh sab qayamat ke din Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke farman ke mutabiq mal'un hain.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مُرَّةَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ آكِلُ الرِّبَا وَمُوكِلُهُ وَكَاتِبُهُ إِذَا عَلِمُوا ذَلِكَ وَالْوَاشِمَةُ وَالْمَوْشُومَةُ لِلْحُسْنِ وَلاَوِي الصَّدَقَةِ وَالْمُرْتَدُّ أَعْرَابِيًّا بَعْدَ الْهِجْرَةِ مَلْعُونُونَ عَلَى لِسَانِ مُحَمَّدٍ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5103

Husain, Mughirah, and Ibn Awn (رضي الله تعالى عنهما) narrated, from Ash-Sh'abi, from Al-Harith (رضي الله تعالى عنه), from Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه), that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) cursed the one who consumes Riba, the one who pays it, the one who writes it down, and the one who withholds Sadaqah (Zakah). And he used to forbid wailing (in mourning for the dead).


Grade: Sahih

علی رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے سود کھانے والے، کھلانے والے، اس کا حساب لکھنے والے اور صدقہ نہ دینے والے پر لعنت فرمائی ہے، نیز آپ نوحہ ( مردے پر چیخ چیخ کر رونے ) سے منع فرماتے تھے۔ اسے ابن عون و عطا بن سائب نے مرسلاً روایت کیا ہے۔

Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah salla allahu alaihi wa sallam ne sud khane wala, khilane wala, is ka hisab likhne wala aur sadaqa na dene wala par lanat farmaai hai, niz aap noha ( marde par cheek cheek kar rone ) se mana farmate the. Ise ibn Aoun wa Ata bin Saib ne mursalan riwayat kiya hai.

أَخْبَرَنِي زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا حُصَيْنٌ، وَمُغِيرَةُ، وَابْنُ، عَوْنٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَعَنَ آكِلَ الرِّبَا وَمُوكِلَهُ وَكَاتِبَهُ وَمَانِعَ الصَّدَقَةِ وَكَانَ يَنْهَى عَنِ النَّوْحِ ‏.‏ أَرْسَلَهُ ابْنُ عَوْنٍ وَعَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5104

Ibn Awn from Ash-Sha'bi from Al-Harith (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) cursed the one who consumes Riba, the one who pays it, the one who writes it down and the one who witnesses it. The woman who does tattoos and the woman who has that done. He said unless it is done as a remedy, he said, ‘yes’. The man who married a woman in order to divorce her so that she may go back to her first husband and the man (the first husband) for whom that is done, and the one who withholds Sadaqah (Zakah). And he used to forbid wailing (in mourning), but he did not say it is cursed.

حارث کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے سود کھانے اور کھلانے والے، سود پر گواہی دینے والے، سود کا حساب لکھنے والے پر، اور گودنے والی اور گودوانے والی عورت پر لعنت فرمائی ہے، الا یہ کہ وہ کسی مرض کی وجہ سے ہو تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”ہاں“ اور آپ نے حلالہ کرنے اور کروانے والے پر، اور زکاۃ نہ دینے والے پر ( لعنت فرمائی ) اور آپ نوحہ کرنے سے منع فرماتے تھے ( نوحہ کے بارے میں ) «لعن» کا لفظ نہیں کہا۔

Haris kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne sud khane aur khilane wale, sud per gawahi dene wale, sud ka hisab likhne wale par, aur godne wali aur godwane wali aurat par lanat farmayi hai, ila yeh ke woh kisi maraz ki wajah se ho to aap ne farmaya: "haan" aur aap ne halala karne aur karwane wale par, aur zakat na dene wale par ( lanat farmayi ) aur aap nouha karne se mana farmate the ( nouha ke bare mein ) «lan» ka lafz nahi kaha.

أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ، قَالَ لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم آكِلَ الرِّبَا وَمُوكِلَهُ وَشَاهِدَهُ وَكَاتِبَهُ وَالْوَاشِمَةَ وَالْمُوتَشِمَةَ قَالَ إِلاَّ مِنْ دَاءٍ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ وَالْحَالُّ وَالْمُحَلَّلُ لَهُ وَمَانِعُ الصَّدَقَةِ وَكَانَ يَنْهَى عَنِ النَّوْحِ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ لَعَنَ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5105

Ata bin As-Sa'ib (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated from Ash-Sha'bi (رضي الله تعالى عنه) who said, ‘the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) cursed the one who consumes Riba, the one who pays it, the one who witnesses it and the one who writes it down, the woman who does tattoos and the woman who has that done; and forbade wailing (in mourning), but he did not say that its doer is cursed.’


Grade: Sahih

شعبی کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے سود کھانے اور کھلانے والے، سود کی گواہی دینے والے، سود کا حساب لکھنے والے پر، اور گودنے والی اور گودوانے والی عورت پر لعنت فرمائی ہے، اور نوحہ سے منع فرمایا، ( اس روایت میں حلالہ کرنے والے اور صدقہ کو روکنے والے پر ) لعنت کا ذکر نہیں کیا۔

Shuaibi kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne suud khane aur khilane wale, suud ki gawahi dene wale, suud ka hisab likhne wale par, aur godne wali aur godwane wali aurat par lanat farmaai hai, aur noha se mana farmaaya, (is riwayat mein halala karne wale aur sadaqah ko rokn e wale par) lanat ka zikr nahi kiya.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفٌ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ خَلِيفَةَ - عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم آكِلَ الرِّبَا وَمُوكِلَهُ وَشَاهِدَهُ وَكَاتِبَهُ وَالْوَاشِمَةَ وَالْمُوتَشِمَةَ وَنَهَى عَنِ النَّوْحِ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ لَعَنَ صَاحِبَ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5106

Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that a woman who did tattoos was brought to Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) and he said, ‘I adjure you by Allah, did any one among you hear (anything from) the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)?’ Abu Hurairah ( رضي الله تعالى عنه) stood up and said, ‘O Commander of the Believers! I heard him (say something).’ He asked, ‘what did you hear?’ He said that he heard him say, ‘do not do tattoos and do not have tattoos done’.’

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس ایک عورت لائی گئی جو گودنا گودتی تھی تو انہوں نے کہا: میں تم کو اللہ کی قسم دیتا ہوں، اس سلسلے میں تم میں سے کسی نے کچھ رسول اللہ ﷺ سے سنا ہے؟ ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں: چنانچہ میں نے کھڑے ہو کر کہا: امیر المؤمنین! میں نے سنا ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا: کیا سنا ہے؟ میں نے کہا: میں نے آپ کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا: ” ( اے عورتو! ) نہ گودو اور نہ گودواؤ“۔

Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke pas ek aurat lai gai jo godna godti thi to unhon ne kaha: main tum ko Allah ki qasam deta hun, is silsile mein tum mein se kisi ne kuchh Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se suna hai? Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain: chananchh main ne khare ho kar kaha: Amir al Momineen! Main ne suna hai. Unhon ne kaha: Kya suna hai? Main ne kaha: Main ne aap ko farmate hue suna: " ( Aey aurato! ) Nah godo aur nah godwao".

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ أُتِيَ عُمَرُ بِامْرَأَةٍ تَشِمُ فَقَالَ أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ هَلْ سَمِعَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فَقُمْتُ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنَا سَمِعْتُهُ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَمَا سَمِعْتَهُ قُلْتُ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ ‏"‏ لاَ تَشِمْنَ وَلاَ تَسْتَوْشِمْنَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
