Hazrat Hammad (R.A) narrates that I asked Hazrat Ibrahim (R.A) what is Ila? He replied that a person takes an oath that he will not talk to his wife, will not have intimacy with her, the head of him and his wife will not be together. Or he will certainly be very angry with her or he will treat her very badly.
حضرت حماد (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے حضرت ابراہیم (رض) سے عرض کیا کہ ایلاء کیا چیز ہے ؟ انھوں نے فرمایا کہ آدمی اس بات کی قسم کھالے کہ وہ بیوی سے بات نہیں کرے گا، اس سے جماع نہیں کرے گا، اس کا اور اس کی بیوی کا سر جمع نہیں ہوں گے۔ یا وہ اس پر ضرور بضرور بہت زیادہ غصہ ڈھائے گا یا وہ اس کے ساتھ بہت برا سلوک کرے گا۔

Unhon ne farmaya keh aadmi is baat ki qasam kha le keh woh biwi se baat nahin karega, is se jima nahin karega, is ka aur is ki biwi ka sar jama nahin honge. Ya woh is par zaroor ba-zaroor bahut zyada ghussa dhayega ya woh is ke sath bahut bura salook karega.
Hazrat Shabi (R.A) says that if a man said to his wife, "By God! I will treat you very badly," if his intention by this statement was that he would marry another woman or have intercourse with a slave girl, then it is nothing. And if the intention was to refrain from intercourse, then it is Ila.
حضرت شعبی (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ اگر ایک آدمی نے اپنی بیوی سے کہا کہ خدا کی قسم میں تیرے ساتھ بہت برا سلوک کروں گا، اگر اس جملے سے اس کی مراد یہ تھی کہ وہ کسی اور عورت سے شادی کرے گا یا کسی باندی سے جماع کرے گا تو یہ کوئی چیز نہیں اور اگر مراد جماع نہ کرنے کی نیت تھی تو یہ ایلاء ہے۔
Hazrat Shabi (RA) farmate hain keh agar aik aadmi ne apni biwi se kaha keh Khuda ki qasam mein tere sath bohat bura sulook karoon ga, agar iss jumle se uski murad yeh thi keh woh kisi aur aurat se shadi kare ga ya kisi bandi se jima kare ga to yeh koi cheez nahin aur agar murad jima na karne ki niyat thi to yeh ila hai.
Hazrat Hukm (may Allah be pleased with him) said that if a man says to his wife, "By God! I will treat you very badly" and then leaves her for four months, then this is Ila.
حضرت حکم (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ اگر ایک آدمی نے اپنی بیوی سے کہا کہ خدا کی قسم ! میں تیرے ساتھ بہت برا سلوک کروں گا اور پھر چار مہینے تک اسے چھوڑے رکھا تو یہ ایلاء ہے۔
Hazrat Hukam (RA) farmate hain keh agar aik aadmi ne apni biwi se kaha keh Khuda ki qasam! main tere sath bohat bura salook karoon ga aur phir chaar mahinay tak usay chhore rakha to yeh ilaa hai.
