Praying at home then catching up with the congregation
يُصَلِّي فِي بَيْتِهِ ثُمَّ يُدْرِكُ جَمَاعَةً

Hazrat Yazid bin Aswad Amri narrates: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) during your Hajj. I prayed the Fajr prayer with you in Masjid-e-Khaif. When you finished the prayer and turned around from prostration, there were two men at the end of the rows who had not prayed with you. You ordered to bring them to you. When they were brought before you, they were trembling. You asked them, "Why didn't you pray with us?" Both of them replied, "O Messenger of Allah! We had already prayed in our camp." You (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Do not do that. When you pray in your camp and then come to a mosque where prayer is being offered, then pray with them as well. That prayer will be Nafl (optional) for you."
حضرت یزید بن اسود عامری کہتے ہیں کہ میں رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے ساتھ آپ کے حج کے موقع پر موجود تھا۔ میں نے مسجدِ خیف میں آپ کے ساتھ فجر کی نماز پڑھی۔ جب آپ نے نماز مکمل فرمالی اور قبلے سے رخ پھیرا تو لوگوں کے آخر میں دو آدمی ایسے تھے جنہوں نے آپ کے ساتھ نماز نہ پڑھی تھی۔ آپ نے فرمایا کہ ان دونوں کو میرے پاس لے آؤ۔ جب انھیں حاضر خدمت کیا گیا تو وہ دونوں کانپ رہے تھے۔ آپ نے ان سے پوچھا کہ تم نے ہمارے ساتھ نماز کیوں نہیں پڑھی ؟ ان دونوں نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ ! ہم نے اپنے کجاو وں میں نماز پڑھ لی تھی۔ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا کہ ایسا نہ کرو، جب تم اپنے کجاو وں میں نماز پڑھ لو اور پھر کسی ایسی مسجد میں آؤ جہاں نماز ہورہی ہو تو ان کے ساتھ بھی نماز پڑھو۔ وہ نماز تمہارے لیے نفل بن جائے گی۔
Hazrat Yazid bin Aswad Aamri kehte hain ki main Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke saath aap ke Hajj ke mauqe par maujood tha. Main ne Masjid-e-Khaif mein aap ke saath Fajr ki namaz parhi. Jab aap ne namaz mukammal farma li aur qibla se rukh phera to logon ke aakhir mein do aadmi aise thay jinhon ne aap ke saath namaz nahi parhi thi. Aap ne farmaya ke un donon ko mere paas le aao. Jab unhen hazir khidmat kiya gaya to woh donon kaanp rahe thay. Aap ne un se poocha ke tum ne humare saath namaz kyun nahi parhi? Un donon ne kaha ke Ya Rasool Allah! Hum ne apne kajawon mein namaz parh li thi. Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya ke aisa na karo, jab tum apne kajawon mein namaz parh lo aur phir kisi aisi masjid mein aao jahan namaz ho rahi ho to un ke saath bhi namaz parho. Woh namaz tumhare liye nafl ban jaye gi.
Hakam ibn 'Urwa reported: I went to Ibn 'Umar while the people were offering the Zuhr prayer. I thought that he had not performed ablution. I said to him: Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, should I bring water for your ablution? He said: I am in the state of ablution and I have already offered prayer; which of these two should I regard (valid)? Yunus said: I made a mention of this to Hasan and he said: May Allah have mercy upon Abu 'Abd al-Rahman. He treated the first prayer as fard (obligatory) and the other as nafl (supererogatory).
حضرت حکم بن اعرج کہتے ہیں کہ میں حضرت ابن عمر کے پاس حاضر ہوا اس وقت لوگ ظہر کی نماز پڑھ رہے تھے۔ میں سمجھا کہ ان کا وضو نہیں ہے۔ میں نے ان سے کہا کہ اے ابو عبدالرحمن ! میں آپ کے لیے وضو کا پانی لے آؤں ؟ انھوں نے کہا کہ میرا وضو ہے اور میں نماز پڑھ چکا تھا، میں ان دونوں میں سے کس کو شمار کروں ؟ یونس کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے اس بات کا ذکر حضرت حسن سے کیا تو انھوں نے فرمایا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ ابو عبد الرحمن پر رحم فرمائے ! انھوں نے پہلی ادا کی گئی نماز کو فرض اور اس کو نفل بنادیا۔
Hazrat Hukm bin Arj kehte hain ki main Hazrat Ibn Umar ke paas hazir hua us waqt log Zuhar ki namaz parh rahe thay. Main samjha ki unka wazu nahi hai. Maine unse kaha ki aye Abu Abdur Rahman! Main aapke liye wazu ka pani le aaoon? Unhon ne kaha ki mera wazu hai aur main namaz parh chuka tha, main in dono me se kis ko shumar karoon? Younus kehte hain ki maine is baat ka zikar Hazrat Hassan se kiya to unhon ne farmaya ki Allah Ta'ala Abu Abdur Rahman par reham farmaye! Unhon ne pehli ada ki gayi namaz ko farz aur is ko nafl banadiya.
Prophet Abraham said that when a person offers prayer alone and then offers prayer in congregation, then the obligatory prayer is the one that he offered first.
حضرت ابراہیم فرماتے ہیں کہ جب آدمی اکیلے نماز پڑھ لے اور پھر جماعت کے ساتھ نماز پڑھے تو فرض نماز وہ ہے جو اس نے پہلے ادا کی۔
