Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9604
It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "We are an unlettered nation, we do not write nor do we calculate. The month is like this, like this, like this." He tied a knot with his thumb on the third time. (Meaning, he counted up to twenty-nine). Then he said, "The month is like this, like this, like this." This time he counted up to a full thirty.
حضرت ابن عمر سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا ہم ایک ان پڑھ امت ہیں، ہم نہ لکھتے ہیں اور نہ حساب کرتے ہیں۔ مہینہ اتنا ہوتا ہے، اتنا ہوتا ہے، اتنا ہوتا ہے۔ آپ نے تیسری مرتبہ میں انگوٹھے سے گرہ بنائی۔ (یعنی انتیس تک گنوایا) پھر فرمایا کہ مہینہ اتنا ہوتا ہے اتنا ہوتا ہے اتنا ہوتا ہے۔ اس مرتبہ آپ نے پورے تیس تک گنوایا۔
Hazrat Ibn Umar se riwayat hai keh Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne irshad farmaya hum aik anparh ummat hain, hum na likhte hain aur na hisab karte hain. Mahina itna hota hai, itna hota hai, itna hota hai. Aap ne teesri martaba mein ungoothe se girah banai. (yani untees tak ginwaya) Phir farmaya keh mahina itna hota hai itna hota hai itna hota hai. Is martaba aap ne poore tees tak ginwaya.
حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ : « إِنَّا أُمَّةٌ أُمِّيَّةٌ لَا نَكْتُبُ وَلَا نَحْسُبُ ، الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا » وَعَقَدَ الْإِبْهَامَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ ، وَالشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا يَعْنِي تَمَامَ الثَّلَاثِينَ
