Chapter: What Has Been Related About The Signs Of The Hypocrite

باب مَا جَاءَ فِي عَلاَمَةِ الْمُنَافِقِ

Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2631

Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘the sign of a hypocrite is that whenever he speaks he lies, and whenever he makes a promise he does not fulfill, and if he is entrusted (with something), he betrays.’ Imam Tirmidhi said, this Hadith is Hasan Gharib as a narration of Al-Ala'. It has been reported through other routes from Abü Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). There are narrations on this topic from 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Anas and Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنهم). There is another chain of transmitters for this Hadith from Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) saying the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said the same thing. Imam Tirmidhi said this is Sahih Hadith. Abu Suhail is the paternal uncle of Malik bin Anas, and his name is Nafi' bin Malik bin An 'Amir Al-Asbahi Al-Khawlani.

اس سند سے بھی ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ سے اسی جیسی حدیث مروی ہے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث صحیح ہے۔

Is sand se bhi Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه)u se isi jaisi hadees marwi hai. Imam Tirmidhi kehte hain: yeh hadees sahih hai.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سُهَيْلِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو سُهَيْلٍ هُوَ عَمُّ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ وَاسْمُهُ:‏‏‏‏ نَافِعُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَبِي عَامِرٍ الْأَصْبَحِيُّ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ.

Abdullah bin 'Amr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘there are four things that whoever has them, then he is a hypocrite and whoever has one attribute from among them, then he has an attribute of hypocrisy, until he leaves it. He lies whenever he speaks, he does not fulfill whenever he promises, he is vulgar whenever he argues, and whenever he makes an agreement he proves treacherous.’ Imam Tirmidhi said, this Hadith is Hasan Sahih. According to the people of knowledge, this only means the hypocrisy of action, and during the time of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) there was only hypocrisy of rejection (in the hearts). Like this has been narrated from Al-Hasan Al-Bari, who said, ‘hypocrisy is of two types, the hypocrisy of action and the hypocrisy of rejection.’ There is another chain for this Hadith with similar narration. Imam Tirmidhi said, this Hadith is Hasan Sahih.

عبداللہ بن عمرو رضی الله عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”چار خصلتیں جس شخص میں ہوں گی وہ ( مکمل ) منافق ہو گا۔ اور جس میں ان میں سے کوئی ایک خصلت ہو گی، اس میں نفاق کی ایک خصلت ہو گی یہاں تک کہ وہ اسے چھوڑ دے: وہ جب بات کرے تو جھوٹ بولے، جب وعدہ کرے تو وعدہ خلافی کرے، جب جھگڑا کرے تو گالیاں بکے اور جب معاہدہ کرے تو بے وفائی کرے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے۔

“`Abd-al-laah bin `Amr radhi-Allahu `anhuma se riwayat hai ke Nabi-e-Akram salla-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam ne farmaya: “Chaar khuslatyain jis shakhs mein hon gi woh (mukammal) munafiq ho ga. Aur jis mein in mein se koi ek khuslat ho gi, us mein nifaaq ki ek khuslat ho gi yahaan tak ke woh usse chhod de: woh jab baat kare to jhoot bole, jab wa`da kare to wa`da khalafi kare, jab jhag`da kare to galiyan bake aur jab mu`aahada kare to be-wafai kare”. Imam Tirmidhi kehte hain: yeh hadees hasan sahih hai.

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَرْبَعٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ كَانَ مُنَافِقًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنْ كَانَتْ خَصْلَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ فِيهِ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ حَتَّى يَدَعَهَا:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا خَاصَمَ فَجَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا عَاهَدَ غَدَرَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Zaid bin Arqam (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘whenever a man makes a promise and he intends to fulfill it, but he does not fulfill it, then there is no burden upon him.’ Imam Tirmidhi said, this Hadith is Gharib, its chain is not strong. 'Ali bin Abdul-Ala' is trustworthy, however, An-Nu'man is unknown and Abu Waqqas is also unknown.


Grade: صحيح

زید بن ارقم رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”جب آدمی کسی سے وعدہ کرے اور اس کی نیت یہ ہو کہ وہ اپنا وعدہ پورا کرے گا لیکن وہ ( کسی عذر و مجبوری سے ) پورا نہ کر سکا تو اس پر کوئی گناہ نہیں“ ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث غریب ہے، ۲- اس کی اسناد قوی نہیں ہے، ۳- علی بن عبدالاعلی ثقہ ہیں، ابونعمان اور ابووقاص غیر معروف ہیں اور دونوں ہی مجہول راوی ہیں۔

Zayd bin Arqam (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: "Jab aadmi kisi se wa'da kare aur us ki niyat yeh ho ke woh apna wa'da poora karega lekin woh ( kisi uzar o majburi se ) poora nah kar saka to us par koi gunaah nahin" 1؎. Imam Tirmidhi kehte hain: 1. yeh hadees gareeb hai, 2. is ki asnaad qowi nahin hai, 3. Ali bin Abdul Aali thiqa hain, Abu Nu'man aur Abu Waqas ghair ma'roof hain aur dono hi majhool rawi hain.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ طَهْمَانَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، عَنْ أَبِي النُّعْمَانِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا وَعَدَ الرَّجُلُ وَيَنْوِي أَنْ يَفِيَ بِهِ فَلَمْ يَفِ بِهِ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ وَلَيْسَ إِسْنَادُهُ بِالْقَوِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ثِقَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا يُعْرَفُ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ وَلَا أَبُو وَقَّاصٍ وَهُمَا مَجْهُولَانِ.
