Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 11843
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: You will follow the ways of those who came before you, span by span and cubit by cubit, so much so that if they were to enter a lizard's hole, you would follow them. We said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), do you mean the Jews and Christians? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Who else? It is narrated on the authority of Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that a wolf attacked a sheep and took it away. The shepherd went in search of it and found it. The wolf sat down, tucking its tail between its legs, and began to say... Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith.

حضرت ابوسعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا تم پہلے لوگوں کی بالشت بالشت بھر اور گز گز بھر عادات کی پیروی کرو گے حتیٰ کہ اگر وہ کسی گوہ کے بل میں داخل ہوں گے تو تم بھی ایسا ہی کرو گے، ہم نے عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ ﷺ ! اس سے مراد یہود و نصاریٰ ہیں؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا تو اور کون؟ حضرت ابوسعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک بھیڑیے نے ایک بکری پر حملہ کیا اور اس کو پکڑ کرلے گیا، چرواہا اس کی تلاش میں نکلا اور اسے بازیاب کرا لیا، وہ بھیڑیا اپنی دم کے بل بیٹھ کر کہنے لگا۔۔۔۔۔۔ پھر راوی نے پوری حدیث ذکر کی۔
Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya tum pehle logon ki balisht balisht bhar aur gaz gaz bhar aadat ki pairvi karoge hatta ki agar wo kisi gooh ke bil mein dakhil honge to tum bhi aisa hi karoge, humne arz kiya Ya Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is se murad yahud o nasara hain? Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya to aur kon? Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki ek bheriye ne ek bakri par hamla kiya aur usko pakad kar le gaya, charwaha uski talash mein nikla aur use baziyab kara liya, wo bheria apni dum ke bal baith kar kehne laga..... phir ravi ne puri hadees zikr ki.
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:" لَتَتَّبِعُنَّ سُنَنَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ شِبْرًا بِشِبْرٍ، وَذِرَاعًا بِذِرَاعٍ، حَتَّى لَوْ دَخَلُوا جُحْرَ ضَبٍّ لَتَبِعْتُمُوهُمْ"، قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى؟ قَالَ:" فَمَنْ؟".
