Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 19865
A young man asked Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) about the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayer during travel. Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) turned towards the gathering at Aqabah and said, "This young man is asking me about the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayer during travel, so you should also memorize it carefully. Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went on a journey, he prayed two rak'ahs until his return, and during the conquest of Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed in Makkah for eighteen days but continued to lead the people in prayer with two rak'ahs only." Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith with an addition from Yunus bin Muhammad, "Except that he did not shorten the Maghrib prayer. Then, he would say, 'O people of Makkah! You people should stand and pray the first two rak'ahs yourselves, for we are travelers.'" After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went for the Battle of Hunayn and Ta'if, and he continued to pray two rak'ahs. Then he went to Ji'ranah and assumed the state of Ihram for Umrah in the month of Dhul-Qa'dah (and did the same). Then I participated in expeditions, Hajj, and Umrah with Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also prayed two rak'ahs. Then, I prayed with Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) in the early period of his caliphate, and he prayed the same way. Later, Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) began to pray four rak'ahs.

حضرت عمران بن حصین رضی اللہ عنہ سے ایک نوجوان نے نبی ﷺ کی نماز سفر کے متعلق پوچھا تو وہ مجلس عوقہ کی طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور فرمایا کہ یہ نوجوان مجھ سے نبی ﷺ کی نماز سفر کے متعلق پوچھ رہا ہے، لہذا تم بھی اسے اچھی طرح محفوظ کرلو، نبی ﷺ نے جب بھی کوئی سفر کیا ہے تو واپسی تک دو دو رکعتیں ہی پڑھی ہیں اور مکہ مکرمہ میں فتح مکہ کے موقع پر نبی ﷺ اٹھارہ دن تک رہے لیکن لوگوں کو دو دو رکعتیں ہی پڑھاتے رہے۔ حضرت عمران بن حصین رضی اللہ عنہ گزشتہ حدیث یونس بن محمد سے اس اضافے کے ساتھ منقول ہے کہ البتہ مغرب میں قصر نہیں فرماتے تھے، پھر فرما دیتے کہ اہل مکہ! تم لوگ کھڑے ہو کر اگلی دو رکعتیں خود ہی پڑھ لو کیونکہ ہم لوگ مسافر ہیں۔ اس کے بعد نبی ﷺ غروہ حنین اور طائف کے لئے تشریف لے گئے تب بھی دو دو رکعتیں پڑھتے رہے، پھر جعرانہ گئے اور ماہ ذیقعدہ میں وہاں سے عمرہ کا احرام باندھا (تب بھی ایسا ہی کیا) پھر میں نے حضرت صدیق اکبر رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ غزوات، حج اور عمرے کے سفر میں شرکت کی، انہوں نے بھی دو دو رکعتیں پڑھیں، پھر حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ بھی ان کے ابتدائی دور خلافت میں ایسے ہی نماز پڑھی، بعد میں حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ چار رکعتیں پڑھنے لگے تھے۔
Hazrat Imran bin Husain (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se ek naujawan ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki namaz safar ke mutalliq poocha to woh majlis Auqah ki taraf mutawajjah huye aur farmaya keh yeh naujawan mujh se Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki namaz safar ke mutalliq pooch raha hai, lihaza tum bhi ise achhi tarah mahfooz karlo, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne jab bhi koi safar kiya hai to wapsi tak do do rakatein hi parhi hain aur Makkah Mukarramah mein fatah Makkah ke mauqe par Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) atharah din tak rahe lekin logon ko do do rakatein hi parhate rahe. Hazrat Imran bin Husain (رضي الله تعالى عنه) guzishta hadees Younus bin Muhammad se is izafe ke sath manqool hai keh albatta Maghrib mein qasar nahin farmate thay, phir farma dete keh ahl Makkah! tum log kharay ho kar agli do rakatein khud hi parh lo kyunki hum log musafir hain. Is ke baad Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Ghazwa Hunain aur Taif ke liye tashreef le gaye tab bhi do do rakatein parhte rahe, phir Jairanah gaye aur mah ziqadah mein wahan se Umrah ka ahram bandha (tab bhi aisa hi kiya) phir maine Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke sath ghazawat, Hajj aur Umrah ke safar mein shirkat ki, unhon ne bhi do do rakatein parhin, phir Hazrat Usman (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke sath bhi un ke ibtidai daur khilafat mein aise hi namaz parhi, baad mein Hazrat Usman (رضي الله تعالى عنه) chaar rakatein parhne lage thay.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ , أَنَّ فَتًى سَأَلَ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ صَلَاةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي السَّفَرِ، فَعَدَلَ إِلَى مَجْلِسِ الْعُوقَةِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ هَذَا الْفَتَى سَأَلَنِي عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي السَّفَرِ، فَاحْفَظُوا عَنِّي: " مَا سَافَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَفَرًا إِلَّا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ، وَإِنَّهُ أَقَامَ بِمَكَّةَ زَمَانَ الْفَتْحِ ثَمَانِيَ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَدَّثَنَاه يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ , وَزَادَ فِيهِ إِلَّا الْمَغْرِبَ , ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: يَا أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ، قُومُوا فَصَلُّوا رَكْعَتَيْنِ أُخْرَيَيْنِ، فَإِنَّا سَفْرٌ، ثُمَّ غَزَا حُنَيْنًا , وَالطَّائِفَ، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى جِعِرَّانَةَ، فَاعْتَمَرَ مِنْهَا فِي ذِي الْقَعْدَةِ" , ثُمَّ غَزَوْتُ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ وَحَجَجْتُ وَاعْتَمَرْتُ، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَمَعَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ , فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ قَالَ يُونُسُ: إِلَّا الْمَغْرِبَ , وَمَعَ عُثْمَانَ صَدْرًَا من إِمَارَتِهِ، فصلَّى ركعتين قَالَ يُونُسُ: إِلَّا الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ إِنَّ عُثْمَانَ صَلَّى بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ أَرْبَعًا.
