Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 21840
Ash'as bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with the delegation of Kindah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked me, "Do you have any children?" I said, "When I was leaving to see you, a son was born to me from the daughter of Jamd. I wished that people would have been quenched instead of him." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Do not say that, for children are the coolness of the eyes, and if they die, they are a source of reward. Yes, if you have to say anything, then say that children are a cause of cowardice and grief." (He said this twice).

حضرت اشعث بن قیس رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ میں کندہ کے وفد کے ساتھ نبی کریم ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا نبی کریم ﷺ نے مجھ سے پوچھا کہ کیا تمہاری کوئی اولاد ہے؟ میں نے عرض کیا کہ جب میں آپ کی طرف نکل رہا تھا تو بنت جمد سے میرے یہاں ایک بیٹا پیدا ہوا تھا میری تو خواہش تھی کہ اس کی بجائے لوگ ہی سیراب ہوجاتے تو بہت اچھا تھا نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا ایسے مت کہو کیونکہ اولاد آنکھوں کی ٹھنڈگ ہوتی ہے اور گر فوت ہوجائے تو باعث اجر ہوتی ہے ہاں اگر کچھ کہنا ہی ہے تو یوں کہو کہ اولاد بزدلی کا اور غم کا سبب بن جاتی ہے (یہ جملہ دو مرتبہ فرمایا)
Hazrat Ashas bin Qais Radi Allaho Anhu se marvi hai ki main Kinda ke wafd ke sath Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ki khidmat mein hazir hua. Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ne mujhse pucha ki kya tumhari koi aulad hai? Maine arz kiya ki jab main aap ki taraf nikal raha tha to Bint Jamad se mere yahan ek beta paida hua tha. Meri to khawahish thi ki uski bajay log hi sirab hojate to bahut acha tha. Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya aise mat kaho kyunki aulad aankhon ki thandak hoti hai aur agar foot hojaye to baais ajr hoti hai. Haan agar kuch kehna hi hai to yun kaho ki aulad buzdali ka aur gham ka sabab ban jati hai (ye jumla do martaba farmaya).
حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ , حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ , أخبرَنَا مُجَالِدٌ , عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ , حَدَّثَنَا الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ , قَالَ: قَدِمْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي وَفْدِ كِنْدَةَ , فَقَالَ لِي:" هَلْ لَكَ مِنْ وَلَدٍ؟" , قُلْتُ: غُلَامٌ وُلِدَ لِي فِي مَخْرَجِي إِلَيْكَ مِنَ ابْنَةِ جمَدٍّه , وَلَوَدِدْتُ أَنَّ مَكَانَهُ شَبِعَ الْقَوْمُ , قَالَ: " لَا تَقُولَنَّ ذَلِكَ , فَإِنَّ فِيهِمْ قُرَّةَ عَيْنٍ وَأَجْرًا إِذَا قُبِضُوا , ثُمَّ وَلَئِنْ قُلْتَ ذَاكَ , إِنَّهُمْ لَمَجْبَنَةٌ مَحْزَنَةٌ , إِنَّهُمْ لَمَجْبَنَةٌ مَحْزَنَةٌ" .
