The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2744
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), once Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the court of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and saw that the mat on which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting had left marks on his blessed side. He submitted, "O Prophet of Allah! If you (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would have a softer bed made, how nice would it be?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "What do I have to do with the world? The example of me and the world is like that of a rider who travels all day in the heat and takes shade under a tree for a while, then leaves it and moves on."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ سیدنا عمر فاروق رضی اللہ عنہ بارگاہ رسالت میں حاضر ہوئے، دیکھا کہ نبی ﷺ جس چٹائی پر تشریف فرما ہیں، پہلوئے مبارک پر اس کے نشانات پڑ چکے ہیں، عرض کیا کہ اے اللہ کے نبی! اگر آپ ﷺ اس سے کچھ نرم بستر بنوا لیتے تو کتنا اچھا ہوتا؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”میرا دنیا سے کیا تعلق؟ میری اور دنیا کی مثال تو اس سوار کی سی ہے جو گرمی کے موسم میں سارا دن چلتا رہے اور کچھ دیر کے لئے ایک درخت کے نیچے سایہ حاصل کرے، پھر اسے چھوڑ کر چل دے۔“
Saina Ibne Abbas Raziallahu Anhuma se marvi hai ki aik martaba Saidina Umar Farooq Raziallahu Anhu bargahe risalat mein hazir hue, dekha ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) jis chatai par tashreef farma hain, pahluye mubarak par uske nishanat par chuke hain, arz kiya ki aye Allah ke Nabi! Agar aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is se kuchh narm bistar banwa lete to kitna achha hota? Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”Mera duniya se kya ta'lluq? Meri aur duniya ki misaal to is sawar ki si hai jo garmi ke mausam mein sara din chalta rahe aur kuchh der ke liye ek darakht ke neeche saya hasil kare, phir use chhor kar chal de.”
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ , وَعَفَّانُ , قَالُوا: حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِلَالٌ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ عُمَرُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى حَصِيرٍ قَدْ أَثَّرَ فِي جَنْبِهِ، فَقَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، لَوْ اتَّخَذْتَ فِرَاشًا أَوْثَرَ مِنْ هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ:" مَا لِي وَلِلدُّنْيَا؟ مَا مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُ الدُّنْيَا، إِلَّا كَرَاكِبٍ سَارَ فِي يَوْمٍ صَائِفٍ، فَاسْتَظَلَّ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ، ثُمَّ رَاحَ وَتَرَكَهَا".
