The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2998
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyiduna Ma'iz bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) presented himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to confess his sin, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked him, "Perhaps you only rubbed against her? Or kissed her? Or looked at her?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was, in fact, apprehensive that perhaps he did not even know the meaning of Zina (adultery/fornication).

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ جب سیدنا ماعز بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں اعتراف جرم کے لئے حاضر ہوئے تو نبی ﷺ نے ان سے پوچھا: ”شاید تم نے اس کے ساتھ چھیڑ خانی کی ہوگی؟ یا بوسہ دے دیا ہوگا؟ یا اسے دیکھا ہوگا؟“ نبی ﷺ کو در اصل یہ اندیشہ تھا کہ کہیں اسے زنا کا مطلب ہی معلوم نہ ہو۔
Sayyidaana Ibn Abbas Radi Allaho Anhuma se marvi hai ki jab Sayyidaana Maaz bin Malik Radi Allaho Anhu Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ki khidmat mein eitraaf jurm ke liye hazir hue to Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ne un se pucha: “Shayad tum ne iske sath chher khaani ki hogi? Ya bosa de diya hoga? Ya ise dekha hoga?” Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ko dar asal ye andesha tha ki kahin ise zina ka matlab hi maloom na ho.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ لِمَاعِزٍ حِينَ قَالَ: زَنَيْتُ:" لَعَلَّكَ غَمَزْتَ، أَوْ قَبَّلْتَ، أَوْ نَظَرْتَ إِلَيْهَا؟"، قَالَ: كَأَنَّهُ يَخَافُ أَنْ لَا يَدْرِيَ مَا الزِّنَا.
