Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5895
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent us on an expedition. When we encountered the enemy, we fled at the first instance and returned to Madinah during the night with some people and went into hiding. Then we thought that we should go to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and explain our position. So we went to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When we met him, we said: “O Messenger of Allah! We are those who fled.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “No, rather you are those who turn back to fight (after fleeing). I am a group from among you, and I am the entire Muslim Ummah.” He said (the last sentence) twice: “I am a group from among you, and I am the entire Muslim Ummah.”

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ نے ہمیں کسی سریہ میں روانہ فرمایا، جب دشمن سے ہمارا آمنا سامنا ہوا تو ہم پہلے ہی مرحلے پر بھاگ اٹھے اور رات کے وقت ہی کچھ لوگوں کے ساتھ مدینہ منورہ آ گئے اور روپوش ہو گئے، پھر ہم نے سوچا کہ نبی ﷺ کے پاس چل کر ان سے اپنا عذر بیان کرتے ہیں، چنانچہ ہم نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہو گئے نبی ﷺ سے ملاقات ہوئی، تو ہم نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ہم فرار ہو کر بھاگنے والے ہیں، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”نہیں، بلکہ تم پلٹ کر حملہ کر نے والے ہو، میں تمہاری ایک جماعت ہوں اور میں مسلمانوں کی ایک پوری جماعت ہوں۔ میں تمہاری ایک جماعت ہوں اور میں مسلمانوں کی ایک پوری جماعت ہوں۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne humein kisi sariya mein rawana farmaya, jab dushman se hamara aamna samna hua to hum pehle hi marhale par bhaag uthe aur raat ke waqt hi kuch logon ke saath Madina Munawwara aa gaye aur roposh ho gaye, phir humne socha ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke paas chal kar unse apna uzr bayan karte hain, chunancha hum Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki khidmat mein hazir ho gaye Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se mulaqat hui, to humne arz kiya: Ya Rasulullah! hum faraar ho kar bhagne wale hain, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Nahin, balki tum palat kar hamla karne wale ho, main tumhari ek jamaat hun aur main musalmanon ki ek puri jamaat hun. main tumhari ek jamaat hun aur main musalmanon ki ek puri jamaat hun.”.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، وَأَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ , قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ: بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ، فَلَمَّا لَقِينَا الْعَدُوَّ نْهَزَمْنَا فِي أَوَّلِ عَادِيَةٍ، فَقَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فِي نَفَرٍ لَيْلًا، فَاخْتَفَيْنَا، ثُمَّ قُلْنَا: لَوْ خَرَجْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاعْتَذَرْنَا إِلَيْهِ؟ فَخَرَجْنَا، فَلَمَّا لَقِينَاهُ قُلْنَا: نَحْنُ الْفَرَّارُونَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ:" بَلْ أَنْتُمْ الْعَكَّارُونَ، وَأَنَا فِئَتُكُمْ"، قَالَ أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ:" وَأَنَا فِئَةُ كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ".
