Chapter on Prohibition for Someone in a State of Major Impurity to Touch the Quran

Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 408
(408) Narrated Abdullah bin Abi Bakr from his father that the letter of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) which was to Amr bin Hazm was that: You touch the Quran with ablution.

(٤٠٨) سیدنا عبداللہ بن ابوبکر اپنے والد سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کا خط جو عمرو بن حزم کے نام تھا اس میں یہ تھا کہ تو قرآن کو باوضو ہو کر ہاتھ لگا۔
(408) Syedna Abdullah bin Abubakar apne walid se naql farmate hain ke Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ka khat jo Amr bin Hazm ke naam tha us mein yeh tha ke tum Quran ko bawazu ho kar hath laga.
(409) Sayyidina Abu Bakr bin Muhammad bin Hazm narrates from his grandfather, and he from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wrote a letter to the people of Yemen mentioning the obligatory duties, Sunnah acts, and Zakat. He sent this letter with Amr bin Hazm. Then, he mentioned a long narration which included that only a person in a state of ablution should touch the Quran.

(٤٠٩) سیدنا ابوبکر بن محمد بن حزم اپنے دادا سے اور وہ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے یمن والوں کو خط لکھا جس میں فرائض ‘ سنن اور دیتوں کا ذکر تھا اور عمرو بن حزم کے ساتھ ان کو بھیجا۔ پھر انھوں نے لمبی حدیث ذکر کی جس میں یہ بھی تھا کہ قرآن کو صرف باوضو شخص چھوئے۔
(409) Syedna Abubakar bin Muhammad bin Hazm apne dada se aur wo Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) se naql farmate hain ke aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne Yemen walon ko khat likha jis mein faraiz, sunan aur daiton ka zikar tha aur Amr bin Hazm ke sath un ko bhi bheja. Phir unhon ne lambi hadees zikar ki jis mein ye bhi tha ke Quran ko sirf ba wazu shakhs chhuye.
Sulaiman bin Musa said: I heard from Salim, narrating from his father that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not touch the Quran except in a state of purity."

(٤١٠) سلیمان بن موسیٰ کہتے ہیں : میں نے سالم سے سنا، وہ اپنے باپ سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” قرآن کو صرف باوضو ہی چھوئے۔ “
(410) Sulaiman bin Musa kehte hain : mainne Salem se suna, woh apne baap se naqal farmate hain ki Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya : "Quran ko sirf ba-wuzu hi chhuye."
(411) Narrated by Mas'ab bin Sa'd: I used to recite the Holy Qur'an in front of Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him). One day, I began to stumble. Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Perhaps you touched your private parts?" I said: "Yes!" He said: "Get up and perform ablution." I got up, performed ablution, and then returned.

(٤١١) معصب بن سعد سے روایت ہے کہ میں سیدنا سعد بن أبی وقاص (رض) کے سامنے مصحف شریف پڑھتا تھا تو (ایک دن) میں اٹکنے لگا۔ سیدنا سعد (رض) نے کہا : شاید تو نے اپنی شرم گاہ کو چھوا ہے ؟ میں نے کہا : جی ہاں ! تو انھوں نے کہا : کھڑا ہو اور وضو کر۔ میں کھڑا ہوا میں نے وضو کیا، پھر واپس لوٹا۔
411 Musab bin Saad se riwayat hai ki main Sayyidna Saad bin Abi Waqas (RA) ke samne Mushaf Sharif parhta tha to (ek din) main atakne laga. Sayyidna Saad (RA) ne kaha : shayad tune apni sharm gah ko chuwa hai? Main ne kaha : ji haan! To unhon ne kaha : khara ho aur wuzu kar. Main khara hua main ne wuzu kiya, phir wapas lota.
'Abdur Rahman bin Zaid narrated that we were with Sulayman, and when he finished relieving himself, I said: "O Abu 'Abdullah! I wish you would perform ablution, perhaps we will ask you about some verses." He said: "I did not touch my private part." Then he said: "This Noble Quran is only touched by those who are pure." Then he recited whatever he wished.

(٤١٢) عبد الرحمن بن زید فرماتے ہیں کہ ہم سلیمان کے ساتھ تھے وہ اپنی حاجت پوری کر کے آئے تو میں نے کہا : اے ابوعبداللہ ! کاش آپ وضو کرلیتے شاید ہم آپ سے آیات کے متعلق سوال کرتے۔ انھوں نے فرمایا : میں نے اس شرمگاہ نہیں چھوا، پھر فرمایا : اس قرآن مجید کو صرف پاک لوگ ہی چھوتے ہیں۔ پھر انھوں نے جو چاہا پڑھا۔
(412) Abdur Rahman bin Zaid farmate hain ki hum Sulaiman ke sath the wo apni hajat puri kar ke aaye to main ne kaha : Aye Abu Abdullah! kash aap wazu karlete shayad hum aap se ayat ke mutalliq sawal karte. Unhon ne farmaya : main ne is sharamgah nahi chhua, phir farmaya : Is Quran Majeed ko sirf pak log hi chhute hain. Phir unhon ne jo chaha parha.
(413) Narrated Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went out with his sword hanging by his side. He then narrated the Hadith wherein he was told that his brother-in-law and sister had become disbelievers and abandoned his religion. So, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to them. They had with them a person from the emigrants, who was called Khubab. They were reciting Surah Ta Ha. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Give me that book which is with you." They made him hear it after reciting it, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to read the book. His sister said: "You are surely unclean; none touches it but the purified. Go and perform a bath or ablution." The narrator said: Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) got up, performed ablution, took the book and recited Surah Ta Ha. This Hadith is supported by many proofs.
(b) This is the opinion of the seven jurists of Medina.

(٤١٣) سیدنا انس بن مالک (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ سیدنا عمر (رض) اپنی تلوار لٹکا کر نکلے، پھر انھوں نے حدیث بیان کی، اس میں ہے کہ ان سے کہا گیا کہ آپ کا بہنوئی اور بہن بےدین ہوگئے ہیں اور انھوں نے تیرے دین کو چھوڑ دیا ہے تو سیدنا عمر (رض) چلے اور یہاں تک ان کے پاس آئے، ان کے پاس مہاجرین میں سے ایک شخص تھا جس کو خباب کہا جاتا تھا، وہ دونوں سورة طٰہٰ کی تلاوت کر رہے تھے، عمر (رض) نے فرمایا : تمہارے پاس جو کتاب ہے وہ مجھے دو ، انھوں نے ان کو پڑھ کر سنایا اور سیدنا عمر (رض) کتاب پڑھا کرتے تھے۔ ان کی بہن نے کہا : بلاشبہ تم ناپاک ہو اس کو تو صرف پاک لوگ ہی چھوتے ہیں آپ جا کر غسل کریں یا وضو، راوی کہتا ہے : سیدنا عمر (رض) کھڑے ہوئے، وضو کیا کتاب پکڑی اور سورة طٰہٰ کی تلاوت کی۔ اس حدیث کے بہت سے شواہد ہیں۔
(ب) اہل مدینہ کے فقہائے سبعہ کا قول ہے۔
