Chapter on What to Say When One Rises for Night Vigil

باب ما يقول إذا قام من الليل يتهجد

Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 4665

(4665) Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would stand at night, he would pray Tahajjud. (b) Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would wake up at night, he would pray Tahajjud and say: O Allah! All praise is for You, and You are the Light of the heavens, the earth, and whatever is in them. All praise is for You, You are the King of the heavens, the earth, and whatever is in them. You are the True One, Your promise is true, Your word is true, and Your meeting is true. Paradise, Hell, the Day of Judgment, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the Prophets are all true. O Allah! I am obedient to You, and I have believed in You, and in You alone I have placed my trust, and to You I submit in humility. Forgive my sins, those that precede me and those that will follow me, and those that I have committed secretly and openly. You are the First and the Last, there is no deity worthy of worship but You, or he said: You alone are the One worthy of worship (there is a difference in wording).

(٤٦٦٥) ابن عباس (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) جب رات کو کھڑے ہوتے تو تہجد پڑھتے۔ (ب) ابن عباس (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) جب رات کو اٹھتے تو تہجد پڑھتے اور فرماتے : اے اللہ ! تمام تعریف تیرے لیے ہے اور آسمانوں، زمین اور جو کچھ ان میں ہے، تو ان کا نور ہے۔ تمام تعریفیں تیرے لیے ہیں، آسمانوں، زمین اور جو کچھ ان میں ہے تو ان کا بادشاہ ہے اور تمام تعریفیں تیرے لیے ہیں۔ تو سچا، تیرا وعدہ سچا، تیری بات سچی اور تیری ملاقات حق ہے اور جنت، جہنم، قیامت، محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ، انبیاء تمام حق ہیں۔ اے اللہ ! میں تیرا مطیع ہو اور تجھ پر ایمان لایا اور تجھ ہی پر میرا بھروسہ ہے اور تیری طرف میں عاجزی و انکساری کرتا ہوں۔ میرے پہلے اور بعد والے گناہ معاف فرما اور جو میں نے پوشیدہ اور ظاہری گناہ کیے ہیں، سب معاف فرما۔ مقدم اور موخر تو ہی ہے، تیرے علاوہ کوئی معبود نہیں ہے یا فرمایا : صرف تو ہی معبود ہے (الفاظ کا فرق ہے) ۔

(4665) Ibn Abbas (RA) farmate hain keh Rasul Allah (SAW) jab raat ko kharay hote to tahajud parhte. (b) Ibn Abbas (RA) farmate hain keh Nabi (SAW) jab raat ko uthte to tahajud parhte aur farmate : Aye Allah ! Tamam tareef tere liye hai aur asmanon, zameen aur jo kuchh in mein hai, to un ka noor hai. Tamam tareefen tere liye hain, asmanon, zameen aur jo kuchh in mein hai to un ka badshah hai aur tamam tareefen tere liye hain. Tu sacha, tera waada sacha, teri baat sachi aur teri mulaqat haq hai aur jannat, jahannam, qayamat, Muhammad (SAW), anbiya tamam haq hain. Aye Allah ! Main tera muti hoon aur tujh par iman laya aur tujh hi par mera bharosa hai aur teri taraf main aajzi o inkesari karta hoon. Mere pehle aur baad wale gunah maaf farma aur jo maine poshida aur zahiri gunah kiye hain, sab maaf farma. Muqaddam aur moakhir tu hi hai, tere alawa koi mabood nahi hai ya farmaya : Sirf tu hi mabood hai (alfaaz ka farq hai).

٤٦٦٥ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ،عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ:كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، إِذَا قَامَ يَتَهَجَّدُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ الْأَحْوَلُ خَالُ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ،قَالَ:سَمِعْتُ طَاوُسًا يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يَتَهَجَّدُ قَالَ:" اللهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ قَيِّمُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ مَلِكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ الْحَقُّ، وَوَعْدُكَ الْحَقُّ، وَقَوْلُكَ حَقٌّ، وَلِقَاؤُكَ حَقٌّ، وَالْجَنَّةُ حَقٌّ، وَالنَّارُ حَقٌّ، وَالسَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ، وَمُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَقٌّ، وَالنَّبِيُّونَ حَقٌّ، اللهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ، وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ حَاكَمْتُ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ، وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ، أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ، وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ "،أَوْ قَالَ:" لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ ". شَكَّ سُفْيَانُ،قَالَ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ:قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: وَزَادَ عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ:" وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ "لَمْ يَقُلْهَا سُلَيْمَانُ. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَغَيْرِهِ، وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ عَمْرٍو النَّاقِدِ وَغَيْرِهِ، كُلُّهُمْ عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ

[4666] Thawus says: I heard from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would pray Tahajjud at night, he would say: "O Allah, praise is for You, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth, and praise is for You, You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and whatever is in them, and You, Your promise is true, Your word is true, and Your meeting is true, Paradise is true, Hellfire is true, the Prophets are true. O Allah, I am obedient to You and I believe in You and I rely upon You and I humble myself before You. Forgive me my sins, those that precede me and those that follow me, and those that I have concealed or done openly, You are my Protector, there is no deity worthy of worship but You."

(٤٦٦٦) طاؤس کہتے ہیں کہ اس نے ابن عباس (رض) سے سنا کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) جب رات کو تہجد پڑھتے تو فرماتے : اے اللہ ! تیرے لیے تعریف ہے تو آسمانوں اور زمین کا نور ہے، تیرے ہی لیے تمام تعریف ہے، تو آسمانوں، زمین اور جو کچھ ان میں ہے کا انتظام فرماتا ہے اور تو، تیرا وعدہ، تیری بات اور تیری ملاقات حق ہے جنت، جہنم، انبیاء بھی حق ہیں۔ اے اللہ ! میں تیرا مطیع ہوں اور تجھ پر ایمان رکھتا ہوں اور تیرے اوپر میرا بھروسہ ہے اور تیری طرف میں عاجزی کرتا ہوں۔ میرے پہلے اور بعد والے تمام گناہ معاف کر دے اور جو گناہ میں نے پوشیدہ یا ظاہراً کیے ہوں تمام معاف کر دے تو ہی میرا الٰہ ہے تیرے علاوہ میرا کوئی الٰہ نہیں۔

Taos kehte hain ke usne Ibn Abbas (RA) se suna ke Rasool Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) jab raat ko Tahajjud parhte to farmate: Aye Allah! Tere liye tareef hai to aasmanon aur zameen ka noor hai, tere hi liye tamam tareef hai, to aasmanon, zameen aur jo kuchh in mein hai ka intezam farmata hai aur to, tera waada, teri baat aur teri mulaqat haq hai jannat, jahannam, anbiya bhi haq hain. Aye Allah! Main tera muti hoon aur tujh par imaan rakhta hoon aur tere upar mera bharosa hai aur teri taraf main aajzi karta hoon. Mere pehle aur baad wale tamam gunah maaf kar de aur jo gunah maine poshida ya zahiran kiye hain tamam maaf kar de to hi mera ilah hai tere alawa mera koi ilah nahin.

٤٦٦٦ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ السُّكَّرِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ، أنبأ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ الصَّفَّارُ فِي الْمُحَرَّمِ سَنَةَ إِحْدَى وَأَرْبَعِينَ وَثَلَاثِمِائَةٍ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أنبأ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ الْأَحْوَلُ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ،أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ:كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا تَهَجَّدَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ قَالَ:" اللهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ قَيِّمُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، أَنْتَ الْحَقُّ، وَوَعْدُكَ الْحَقُّ، وَقَوْلُكَ الْحَقُّ، وَلِقَاؤُكَ الْحَقُّ، وَالْجَنَّةُ حَقٌّ، وَالنَّارُ حَقٌّ، وَالنَّبِيُّونَ حَقٌّ، اللهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ خَاصَمْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ حَاكَمْتُ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ، وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ، أَنْتَ إِلَهِي، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ ". رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ

Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up at night, he would say: "There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and to Him is all praise, and He is over all things competent. Glory be to Allah, and all praise is for Allah, and there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah. There is no power within me to refrain from evil or to do good, except by the will of Allah. Then he would say: 'O Allah, forgive me.' So He would forgive him, or he said: 'He supplicates and I will surely answer his supplication. If he determines to do something and stands up, then performs ablution and prays, then his prayer will be accepted.'"

(٤٦٦٧) عبادہ بن صامت (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) جب رات کو بیدار ہوتے تو فرماتے : اللہ کے علاوہ کوئی معبود نہیں اس کا کوئی شریک نہیں، بادشاہت اسی کی ہے۔ اسی کے لیے تمام تعریف ہے اور وہ ہر چیز پر قادر ہے۔ اللہ پاک ہے، تمام تعریفیں اللہ کے لیے ہیں اور اللہ کے علاوہ کوئی معبود نہیں، برائی سے پھرنے اور نیک کام کرنے کی میرے اندر طاقت نہیں اللہ کی توفیق کے بغیر ۔ پھر فرمایا : اے اللہ ! مجھے معاف فرما تو اسے معاف کردیا جائے گا یا فرمایا : وہ دعا کرتا ہے تو میں اس کی دعا کو قبول کرلوں گا، اگر اس نے پختہ ارادہ کیا اور کھڑا ہوا پھر وضو کیا اور نماز پڑھی تو اس کی نماز قبول کرلی جائے گی۔

4667 Ubaida bin Samit (RA) farmate hain ki Rasool Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) jab raat ko bedar hote to farmate: Allah ke ilawa koi mabood nahin is ka koi sharik nahin, badshahat isi ki hai. Isi ke liye tamam tareef hai aur wo har cheez par qadir hai. Allah pak hai, tamam tareefain Allah ke liye hain aur Allah ke ilawa koi mabood nahin, burai se pherne aur nek kaam karne ki mere andar taqat nahin Allah ki taufeeq ke baghair. Phir farmaya: Aye Allah! mujhe maaf farma to use maaf kar diya jayega ya farmaya: wo dua karta hai to main is ki dua ko qubool kar loon ga, agar is ne pakka irada kiya aur khara huwa phir wuzu kiya aur namaz parhi to is ki namaz qubool kar li jayegi.

٤٦٦٧ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَمْرٍو مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَدِيبُ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْإِسْمَاعِيلِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ الْحَذَّاءُ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ،وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَمْدَانَ الْقَصْرِيُّ قَالَا:ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي عُمَيْرُ بْنُ هَانِئٍ، حَدَّثَنِي جُنَادَةُ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ،حَدَّثَنِي عُبَادَةُ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ:قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" مَنْ تَعَارَّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ، وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، سُبْحَانَ اللهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ،ثُمَّ قَالَ:رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي، غُفِرَ لَهُ "،أَوْ قَالَ:" فَدَعَا اسْتُجِيبَ لَهُ، فَإِنْ هُوَ عَزَمَ فَقَامَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَصَلَّى، قُبِلَتْ صَلَاتُهُ ". رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ صَدَقَةَ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ
