Chapter: The Traveler Shortens the Prayer as Long as He Does Not Intend to Stay, Even if He Stops at Some of His Property
باب المسافر ينزل بشيء من ماله فيقصر ما لم يجمع مكثا
Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 5482
Yahya bin Abi Ishaq narrated to us from Anas bin Malik that we went out with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from Medina to Makkah, and he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed two rak'ahs until he returned. I said: "How many days did you stay in Makkah?" He said: "Ten days."

(٥٤٨٢) یحییٰ بن أبی اسحاق انس بن مالک سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ ہم نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے ساتھ مدینہ سے مکہ کی طرف نکلے تو آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے واپس آنے تک دو دو رکعات پڑھیں ۔ میں نے کہا : آپ مکہ میں کتنے دن ٹھہرے ؟ فرمایا : دس دن۔
Yahya bin Abi Ishaq Anas bin Malik se riwayat karte hain ki hum Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ke sath Madina se Makkah ki taraf nikle to aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne wapas aane tak do do rakat padhen. Main ne kaha: Aap Makkah mein kitne din thehre? Farmaya: Das din.
(5483) It is narrated on the authority of Said bin Shafi, on the authority of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would leave his house with the intention of traveling, he would pray two rak'ahs [of prayer] until his return.

(٥٤٨٣) سعید بن شفی ابن عباس (رض) سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) جب گھر سے سفر کی نیت سے نکلتے تو واپسی تک دو دو رکعات نماز پڑھتے۔
Saeed bin Shafi ibn Abbas (RA) se riwayat karte hain keh Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) jab ghar se safar ki niyat se nikalte to wapsi tak do do rakat namaz parhte.
Ali b. Zaid from Abi Nadrah narrated that a man asked Imran b. Husain about the Prophet's (ﷺ) prayer while traveling. He said: "Come and sit with us." Then he said: "He has asked about the Prophet's (ﷺ) prayer while traveling, so you too should learn it from me. Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) traveled, he would pray two rak'ahs until he returned, and would say: 'O people of Mecca! Stand and pray two rak'ahs, for we are travelers.' He went out on the expeditions of Taif and Hunain and prayed two rak'ahs. He then came to Ja'ranah and offered 'Umrah from there. I performed Hajj and 'Umrah with Abu Bakr (RA) and he used to pray two rak'ahs. 'Umar b. al-Khattab (RA) during his caliphate and 'Uthman (RA) also in the beginning of his caliphate used to pray two rak'ahs, then 'Uthman (RA) began to pray four rak'ahs at Mina."

(٥٤٨٤) علی بن زید ابی نضرہ سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ ایک شخص نے عمران بن حصین سے نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی سفر کی نماز کے بارے میں سوال کیا تو انھوں نے فرمایا : آپ ہماری مجلس میں آنا۔ پھر فرمایا : اس نے نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی سفر کی نماز کے بارے میں سوال کیا ہے تم بھی اس کو مجھ سے یاد کرلو۔ جب بھی نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے سفر کیا تو واپسی تک دو دو رکعت پڑھتے تھے اور فرماتے : اے اہل مکہ ! کھڑے ہو دو رکعات پڑھو کیونکہ ہم مسافر ہیں۔ طائف وحنین میں غزوہ کیا تو دو رکعات پڑھیں اور جعرانہ آکر وہاں سے عمرہ کیا۔ میں نے حج وعمرہ ابوبکر (رض) کے ساتھ کیا تو وہ دو رکعات پڑھا کرتے تھے۔ عمر بن خطاب (رض) کا طغری اور حضرت عثمان (رض) بھی اپنی خلافت کی ابتدا میں دو رکعات پڑھا کرتے تھے، پھر حضرت عثمان (رض) نے منیٰ میں چار رکعات پڑھنا شروع کردیں۔
5484 Ali bin Zaid Abi Nazra se riwayat karte hain ki ek shakhs ne Imran bin Haseen se Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ki safar ki namaz ke bare mein sawal kiya to unhon ne farmaya : Aap hamari majlis mein aana. Phir farmaya : Is ne Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ki safar ki namaz ke bare mein sawal kiya hai tum bhi is ko mujh se yaad karlo. Jab bhi Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne safar kiya to wapsi tak do do rakat parhte the aur farmate : Aye ahl Makkah! Khade ho do rakat parho kyunki hum musafir hain. Taif o Hunain mein ghazwa kiya to do rakat parhin aur Jiranah aakar wahan se umrah kiya. Maine Hajj o Umrah Abu Bakr (ra) ke sath kiya to woh do rakat parhte the. Umar bin Khattab (ra) ka daura aur Hazrat Usman (ra) bhi apni khilafat ki ibtida mein do rakat parhte the, phir Hazrat Usman (ra) ne Mina mein chaar rakat parhna shuru kar di.
(5485) (a) Musa bin Salma said: I asked Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) how should I pray when I am in Makkah? He said: Offering two rak'ahs is the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
(b) 'Amr bin Murzuq said: I asked Ibn 'Abbas how much prayer should I offer when I miss the prayer in Masjid al-Haram? He said: Two rak'ahs is the Sunnah of Abu al-Qaasim (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

(٥٤٨٥) (الف) موسیٰ بن سلمہ کہتے ہیں : میں نے ابن عباس (رض) سے سوال کیا کہ میں مکہ میں ہوتا ہوں، کیسے نماز پڑھوں ؟ فرمایا : دو رکعت ادا کرنا نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی سنت ہے۔
(ب) عمرو بن مرزوق فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے ابن عباس سے سوال کیا کہ میں کتنی نماز ادا کروں، جب مسجد حرام سے نماز رہ جائے ؟ فرمایا : دو رکعت ابو القاسم (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی سنت ہے۔
5485 alfa musa bin salma kehte hain : main ne ibn abbas (raz) se sawal kiya keh main makke mein hota hun, kaise namaz parhun ? farmaya : do rakat ada karna nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ki sunnat hai. b amr bin marzooq farmate hain keh main ne ibn abbas se sawal kiya keh main kitni namaz ada karun, jab masjid haram se namaz reh jaye ? farmaya : do rakat abu alqasim ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ki sunnat hai.
