Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 214
(214) Sayyiduna 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for water and performed ablution. He poured water from his right hand over his left hand, then washed both of them up to his elbows. Then he rinsed his mouth and inhaled water through his nose three times. Then he mentioned washing the limbs three times in ablution. Then he wiped his head and washed his feet. I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performing ablution in the same way that you performed ablution for me." The Shaykh (scholar) said: "Washing the limbs in this manner is Sunnah (recommended) or Mustahabb (liked), not obligatory. This is also the position of 'Ata', Ibn Sirin, and the companions of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them).

(٢١٤) سیدنا عثمان (رض) نے پانی منگوایا اور وضو کیا آپ نے دائیں ہاتھ سے بائیں ہاتھ پر پانی ڈالا، پھر ان دونوں کو گھٹنوں تک دھویا ۔ پھر کلی کی اور ناک میں تین مرتبہ پانی چڑھایا، پھر وضو میں تین مرتبہ اعضاء دھونے کا ذکر کیا۔ پھر اپنے سر کا مسح کیا اور اپنے پاؤں کو دھویا۔ میں نے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کو اسی طرح وضو کرتے دیکھا ہے جس طرح تم نے مجھے وضو کرتے ہوئے دیکھا ہے۔ شیخ فرماتے ہیں : اعضاء کو اس طرح دھونا سنت یا مستحب ہے واجب نہیں ہے۔ یہی موقف عطائ، ابن سیرین اور اصحابِ عبداللہ بن مسعود (رض) کا ہے۔
(214) Syedna Usman (RA) ne pani mangwaya aur wuzu kiya aap ne dayen hath se bayen hath per pani dala, phir in donon ko ghutnon tak dhoya. Phir kuli ki aur nak mein teen martaba pani charhaya, phir wuzu mein teen martaba aaza dhoone ka zikar kiya. Phir apne sar ka masah kiya aur apne paon ko dhoya. Mein ne Rasul Allah (SAW) ko isi tarah wuzu karte dekha hai jis tarah tum ne mujhe wuzu karte hue dekha hai. Sheikh farmate hain: Aaze ko is tarah dhona sunnat ya mustahab hai wajib nahin. Yehi mauqif Ataa, Ibn Sireen aur Ashab e Abdullah bin Masood (RA) ka hai.
٢١٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى، أنا عِيسَى، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَلْقَمَةَ، أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ، دَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَأَفْرَغَ بِيَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى الْيُسْرَى، ثُمَّ غَسَلَهُمَا إِلَى الْكُوعَيْنِ.قَالَ:ثُمَّ مَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الْوُضُوءَ ثَلَاثًا.قَالَ:ومَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ، ثُمَّ غَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ،وَقَالَ:" رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ مِثْلَ مَا رَأَيْتُمُونِي تَوَضَّأْتُ "، وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ.قَالَ الشَّيْخُ:وَهَذَا الْغُسْلُ عِنْدَنَا سُنَّةٌ وَاخْتِيَارٌ لَيْسَ بِوَاجِبٍ وَبِهِ قَالَ عَطَاءٌ، وَابْنُ سِيرِينَ، وَأَصْحَابُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ
