Chapter on a menstruating woman remembering Allah but not reciting Quran
باب الحائض تذكر الله عز وجل ولا تقرأ القرآن
Sunan al-Darimi 1025
Imam Ibrahim, may Allah have mercy on him, said: A Junubi (a person in a state of ritual impurity after sexual intercourse) and a menstruating woman can recite the remembrance of Allah and say Bismillah.

امام ابراہیم رحمہ اللہ نے کہا: جنبی اور حائض الله کا ذکر کریں گے اور بسم اللہ پڑھیں گے۔

Sufyan Thawri said: It has reached us from Imam Ibrahim Nakha'i and Saeed bin Jubayr, may Allah have mercy on them, that they both used to say: A Junubi (person in a state of major ritual impurity) and a menstruating woman cannot recite a complete verse, but they can recite a letter or a sentence.

سفیان ثوری نے کہا: امام ابراہیم نخعی اور سعید بن جبیر رحمہما اللہ سے ہم تک یہ بات پہنچی ہے کہ وہ دونوں فرماتے تھے: جنبی اور حائض پوری آیت نہیں پڑھ سکتے، حرف اور جملہ پڑھ سکتے ہیں۔
Sufyan Sauri ne kaha: Imam Ibrahim Nakhaee aur Saeed bin Jubair rehmatullahi alaihima se hum tak yeh baat pahunchi hai ki woh donon farmate thy: Junubi aur haiz puri ayat nahi parh sakte, harf aur jumla parh sakte hain.
It is narrated from 'Amr ibn Shu'aib (may Allah be pleased with him) that a person in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity after sexual discharge) and a menstruating woman should not recite the Quran.

عامر شعبی رحمہ اللہ سے مروی ہے کہ جنبی اور حائضہ قرآن نہیں پڑھیں گی۔
Aamir Shaabi rehmatullah alaihe se marvi hai ke junubi aur haiza Quran nahi parhein gi.
It is narrated from Imam Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) considered it disliked or prohibited for a person in a state of impurity after sexual intercourse to recite the Quran. Shu'bah said: I have also seen in the book that he said the same about a menstruating woman.

امام ابراہیم نخعی رحمہ اللہ سے مروی ہے کہ سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ جنبی کے قرآن پڑھنے کو مکروہ سمجھتے یا اس سے منع کرتے تھے۔ شعبہ نے کہا: میں نے کتاب میں یہ بھی دیکھا کہ حائضہ کے بارے میں بھی ایسا ہی کہتے۔
Imaam Ibraheem Nakhaiee rehmatullah alaihe se marvi hai ke Sayyiduna Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) junubi ke Quran parhne ko makrooh samajhte ya us se mana karte the. Shubah ne kaha: mein ne kitaab mein ye bhi dekha ke haizah ke baare mein bhi aisa hi kahte.
Imam Ibrahim, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Four (people) should not recite the Quran, a person who is in the toilet, and one who is in the bathroom, one who is in the state of Janabah (major ritual impurity after sexual discharge), and a woman in menstruation. However, a menstruating woman and a person in Janabah may recite a verse or a sentence.

امام ابراہیم رحمہ اللہ نے کہا: چار (شخص) قرآن نہیں پڑھیں گے، جو شخص پائخانے میں ہو، اور جو حمام میں ہو، جو جنبی ہو اور حائضہ ہو، ہاں حائضہ اور جنبی آیت یا جملہ پڑھ سکتے ہیں۔
Imaam Ibraaheem rehmatullah alaih ne kaha: Chaar (shakhs) Quran nahin parhen ge, jo shakhs pa khanay mein ho, aur jo hammam mein ho, jo junubi ho aur haiza ho, haan haiza aur junubi aayat ya jumla parh sakte hain.
Imam Ibrahim and Saeed bin Jubair, may Allah have mercy on them, said: A menstruating woman and a man or woman in a state of Janabah can recite the beginning portion of the verse, but they should not recite the complete verse until the end.

امام ابراہیم اور سعید بن جبیر رحمہما اللہ نے کہا: حائضہ عورت اور جنابت والے مرد و عورت آیت کا شروع حصہ پڑھ سکتے ہیں، آخر تک پوری آیت نہیں پڑھیں گے۔
Imam Ibrahim aur Saeed bin Jubair rehmatullahi alaih ne kaha: Haiza aurat aur junubi mard o aurat aayat ka shuru hissa parh sakte hain, aakhir tak poori aayat nahin parhen ge.
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Ubaydullah bin Abi Malikah that Sayyida Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, used to blow on Sayyida Asma, may Allah be pleased with her, during her menstrual period.

عبداللہ بن عبیداللہ ابن ابی ملیکہ سے مروی ہے کہ سیدہ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سیدہ اسماء رضی اللہ عنہا پر حیض کی حالت میں دم کرتی تھیں۔
Abdullah bin Ubaidullah ibn Abi Malika se marvi hai ki Sayyida Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) Sayyida Asma ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) par haiz ki halat mein dum karti thin.
Abu Wa'il (Shaqiq bin Salamah) said: It used to be said that a Junub (ritually impure after intercourse) and a menstruating woman cannot recite the Quran, nor can it be recited in the toilet. And there are two states in which a person cannot even remember Allah: while defecating and while having intercourse. However, when one goes to his wife, he should take the name of Allah before starting "the act".

ابووائل (شقیق بن سلمہ) نے کہا: یہ کہا جاتا تھا کہ جنبی اور حائض قرآن نہیں پڑھ سکتے ہیں، نہ بیت الخلاء میں پڑھ سکتے ہیں، اور دو حالتیں ایسی ہیں جن میں بندہ اللہ کا ذکر بھی نہیں کر سکتا ہے، پائخانہ کرتے وقت اور جماع کرتے وقت، ہاں جب بیوی کے پاس جائے، ”کام“ شروع کرنے سے پہلے الله کا نام لے لے۔
Abuwail (Shaqeeq bin Salma) ne kaha: yeh kaha jata tha ke junubi aur haiz Quran nahi parh sakte hain, na bait ul khala mein parh sakte hain, aur do halaten aisi hain jin mein banda Allah ka zikar bhi nahi kar sakta hai, pakhana karte waqt aur jima karte waqt, haan jab biwi ke paas jaye, "kaam" shuru karne se pehle Allah ka naam le le.
It is narrated from Ata, may Allah have mercy on him, regarding a menstruating woman: Can she recite the Quran? He said: No, she can only recite the opening or closing verses.

عطاء رحمہ اللہ سے حائضہ عورت کے بارے میں مروی ہے: کیا وہ قرآن پڑھ سکتی ہے؟ فرمایا: نہیں، صرف شروع یا آخر کا جملہ پڑھ سکتی ہے۔
Ata' Rahmatullah se haiza aurat ke bare mein marvi hai: kya woh Quran parh sakti hai? Farmaya: nahin, sirf shuru ya akhir ka jumla parh sakti hai.
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Four phrases are not forbidden for the Junub (person in a state of major ritual impurity) and the menstruating woman: «Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest»

سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا: چار کلمے جنبی اور حائض پر بھی حرام نہیں: «سبحان الله، والحمد لله، ولا إله الا الله، والله اكبر» ۔
Sayyidna Abu Huraira razi Allah anhu ne farmaya: Chaar kalme junubi aur haiz par bhi haram nahin: «Subhan Allah, walhamdulillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wallahu akbar».
