Amr bin Sharid (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) reported his father as saying, one day when I rode behind Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), he said (to me), do you remember any poetry of Umayya bin Abu Salt. I said, Yes. He said, then go on. I recited a couplet, and he said, go on. Then I again recited a couplet and he said, go on. I recited one hundred couplets (of his poetry).
This Hadith is also reported on the authority of Sharid through another chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording.
عمرو بن شرید رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اپنے باپ سے بیان کرتے ہیں، ایک دن میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پیچھے سوار ہوا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”کیا تمہیں، امیہ بن ابی صلت کے اشعار میں سے کچھ یاد ہیں؟“ میں نے کہا، جی ہاں، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”سناؤ۔“میں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ایک شعر سنایا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اور سناؤ۔“ پھر میں نے آپ کو ایک شعرسنایا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اور“ حتیٰ کہ میں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو سو(100) اشعار سنائے۔
Amr bin Shareed (Razi Allahu Anhu) apne baap se bayan karte hain, ek din main Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke peeche sawar hua to Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Kya tumhen, Umayyah bin Abi Salt ke ashaar mein se kuch yaad hain?" Main ne kaha, ji haan, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Sunao." Main ne Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko ek shair sunaya, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Aur sunao." Phir main ne Aap ko ek shair sunaya to Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Aur" hatta ke main ne Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko sau (100) ashaar sunaye.
Amr bin Sharid (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) asked him to recite poetry, the rest of the Hadith is the same, but with this addition, ‘he (Umayya bin Abu Salt) was about to become a Muslim, and in the Hadith transmitted on the authority of Ibn Mahdi (the words are) ‘he was almost a Muslim in his poetry.’
یہی روایت امام صاحب دو اور اساتذہ کی سند سے بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھ سے شعر سننے کے تقاضا فرمایا، اس میں یہ اضافہ ہے، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا، ”قریب تھا کہ وہ مسلمان ہو جاتا۔“ ابن مہدی کی روایت میں ہے، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”وہ اپنے اشعار میں اسلام لانے کے قریب تھا۔“
Yahi riwayat Imam Sahab do aur asatizah ki sanad se bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne mujh se shair sunne ke taqaza farmaya, is mein yeh izafa hai, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya, "Qareeb tha ke woh Musalman ho jata." Ibn Mahdi ki riwayat mein hai, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Woh apne ashaar mein Islam lane ke qareeb tha."
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, the truest word spoken by an (pre-Islamic) Arab in poetry is this verse of Labid, ‘other than Allah everything is spurious’.
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”عربوں نے جو بول بولے ہیں، ان میں بہترین کلام،لبید کا یہ شعر ہے۔ ”خبردار، اللہ کےسوا ہر چیز، فانی اور زوال پذیر ہے۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Razi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Arabon ne jo bol bole hain, un mein behtareen kalam, Labid ka yeh shair hai. "Khabardar, Allah ke siwa har cheez, faani aur zawal pazeer hai."
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘the truest word uttered by a poet is this verse of Labid, ‘other than Allah everything is spurious’ and Umayya bin Abu Salt was almost a Muslim.
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں،رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”سب سے سچا بول، جوکسی شاعر نے بولا ہے، لبید کا یہ بول ہے ”خبردار! اللہ کے سوا ہر چیز فانی اور زوال پذیر ہے۔ اور قریب تھا کہ امیہ بن ابی صلت، مسلمان ہو جاتا۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Razi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Sab se sacha bol, jo kisi shair ne bola hai, Labid ka yeh bol hai "Khabardar! Allah ke siwa har cheez faani aur zawal pazeer hai. Aur qareeb tha ke Umayyah bin Abi Salt, Musalman ho jata."
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘the truest verse recited by a poet is, ‘other than Allah everything is spurious’ and Ibn Abu Salt was almost a Muslim.
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”سب سے سچا بول شعر جو کسی شاعر نے کہا ہے، ”یہ ہےخبردار! اللہ کے سوا ہر چیز بے حقیقت ہے۔“ اور قریب تھا کہ ابن ابی صلت اسلام لے آتا۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Razi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Sab se sacha bol shair jo kisi shair ne kaha hai, "Yeh hai Khabardar! Allah ke siwa har cheez be-haqeeqat hai." Aur qareeb tha ke Ibn Abi Salt Islam le aata."
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘the truest couplet recited by a poet is, ‘other than Allah everything is spurious’ and he made no addition to it.
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”سب سے سچا شعر جو شعراء نے کہا ہے، ”خبردار! ہر چیز اللہ کے سوا فانی ہے۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Razi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Sab se sacha shair jo shura ne kaha hai, "Khabardar! har cheez Allah ke siwa faani hai."
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that he heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saying, ‘the truest word which a poet stated is the word of Labid, ‘other than Allah everything is spurious.’
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا: ”سب سے سچا بول جو کسی شاعر نے بولا ہے، لبید کا قول ہے، ”خبردار، دنیا کی ہر چیز اللہ کے سوا فنا پذیر ہے۔“ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس سے زائد نہیں کہا۔
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Razi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain, main ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko yeh farmate hue suna: "Sab se sacha bol jo kisi shair ne bola hai, Labid ka qaul hai, "Khabardar, duniya ki har cheez Allah ke siwa fana pazeer hai." Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne us se za'id nahi kaha.
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘it is better for a man's belly to be stuffed with pus which corrodes it than to stuff (one's mind) with frivolous poetry. Abu Bakr ( رضي اللهتعالی عنہ) has also narrated it with a slight variation of wording.
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں،رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”انسان کے پیٹ میں ایسی پیپ بھر جائے، جو اس کو بگاڑ دے، اس سے بہتر ہے کہ اس کا پیٹ شعروں سے بھرے۔“ حفص کی روایت میں ”يريه“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Razi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Insan ke pait mein aisi peep bhar jaye, jo usko bigaad de, is se behtar hai ke uska pait sheron se bhare." Hafs ki riwayat mein "Yureeh."
Sa`d (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘it is better for the belly of any one of you to be stuffed with pus rather than to stuff (one's mind) with (wrongful) poetry.
حضرت سعد رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا، تم میں سے کسی کے پیٹ کا ایسی پیپ سے بھرنا جو اس کو بگاڑ دے، اس سے بہتر ہے کہ وہ شعروں سے بھرے۔“
Hazrat Sa'd (Razi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya, tum mein se kisi ke pait ka aisi peep se bharna jo usko bigaad de, is se behtar hai ke woh sheron se bhare."
. Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that they were going with Allah's Apostle ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and as they reached the place (known as) Arj there met (them) a poet who had been reciting (wrongful) poetry. Thereupon Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, Catch the satan or detain the Satan, for filling the belly of a man with pus is better than stuffing his brain with (wrongful) poetry.
حضرت ابوسعید خدری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، ہم عرج مقام پر چل رہے تھے کہ اس دوران ایک شاعر سامنے آ کرشعر سنانے لگا تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”شیطان کو پکڑو یا شیطان کو روکو، انسان کا پیٹ پیپ سے بھر جائے، اس سے بہتر ہے کہ وہ شعروں سے بھرے۔“
Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (Razi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain, hum Araj maqam par chal rahe the ke is dauran ek shair samne aa kar shair sunane laga to Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Shaitan ko pakdo ya shaitan ko roko, insan ka pait peep se bhar jaye, is se behtar hai ke woh sheron se bhare."
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ يُحَنِّسَ، مَوْلَى مُصْعَبِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ بَيْنَا نَحْنُ نَسِيرُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِالْعَرْجِ إِذْ عَرَضَ شَاعِرٌ يُنْشِدُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " خُذُوا الشَّيْطَانَ أَوْ أَمْسِكُوا الشَّيْطَانَ لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ رَجُلٍ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا " .
